Subway Action Plan: Inside Subway Car Overhaul Shops
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- In a Subway system that runs 24/7, cars require constant attention and preventative maintenance to stay in optimal condition.
Go inside the 207 St and and Coney Island Overhaul Shops to see where Subway cars get major overhauls that keep them running for decades.
#MTA #SubwayActionPlan
As a passenger it's easy to get frustrated when something runs late, but honestly this system is so massive and complex, it's kind of a miracle it's running at all. Especially since it's 24/7 which most systems don't have to deal with. Keep up the great work MTA!
This is amazing how they do this stuff wish i could sit and watch these guys at work.
Holy mother of God . ! I HAD NO CLUE THAT THE SUBWAY SYSTEM...was sooo damn detailed. My hats off to you guys and women (hopefully).. that keep those subways moving. 👌👍
They do great work,
always keeping the
MTA subway trains
working well, and
moving for everyone,
big thanks to them, thanks.
THANKS!!!❤️🎉🎉🎉🎉
this is written like poetry
Nice! Very optimistic and proud with their work
That background music hit not gonna lie 🔥🔥🔥
Musha III the same 😃👈

That shot of the Lincoln Nebraska Built Kawasaki was nice to see. I have friends that have and are building those right now.
don't bink Are they also building the new R211s to replace old, unreliable cars?
Brug
Very cool • Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
I LOVE MTA
Same
The MTA should really reconsider the R42s and refurbish and still use them. They are more reliable then other cars in the system and has proof of it working from the irt cars
B.Yonce81 Correction: The R32s and R42s are LESS reliable than other cars in the system, so they MUST be replaced soon.
@@TheRailLeaguer Correction the r32s were refurbished and are actually put to last longer than the R42s.
B.Yonce81 But they have LOW mechanical quality. By the time the R179 and R211 order is said and done, all R32, R42, and R46 cars would be retired.
@Saturn3D With crumbling infrastructure and century old signals we don't need new fancy look cars 😂
B.Yonce81 Those fancy new cars will interface with the new CBTC signaling the MTA will install.
I'm a fan of MTA who works in trains
A team I would surely like to join. As an operator or conductor mostly but working under the seats of those locomotives. I wouldn’t mind.
You make every train cool I like the r110a and r110b my favorite trains it’s now gone damn it
I saw an MTA subway car carried in Sloatsburg, NY
Deffenatly cool!!
Very interesting!
Very ambitious too!!!
👍 ❤️ 🇺🇲 🙂
I like the mta :) I love trains
Wow this was interesting
That's dope.
Great money!
IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A JOB !!!!
OR THE CORRECT EXPERIENCE !
If you combine the R62 with the R142, you get the R162.
Double facts
That would actually be the soon to be designed r262 cars that’ll compliment the R211 cars.
It’s could be one of those cars in video that I left my jacket
Long ago, the Subway car overhaul shops worked together in harmony. Then, everything changed when COVID-19 attacked.😂😩
Seems like a lot of work to make 1 car
Think about Lima, Baldwin, Alco, The Junita shops and the Roanoke shops back in the steam era.
I think these folks are just repairing existing train cars and modernizing them. But think about it, they need to repair and then reintegrate train cars into existing infrastructure, during the same amount of population density and weather conditions, not to mention budget deficits and other political factors. I work in the defense industry, and this is super similar, only difference is that the federal government has maximum priority for the military and defense industry over the needs of civilians. Not to mention so many talented folks are retiring, with the Boomer generation getting older, no wonder it takes so much time to repair subways and infrastructure in America. Ultimately, our priorities need to change as a nation!
dude are you stupid?
ived been to coney island shops, that place is fuckin impressive
It's funny how little the weight of a train car has changed.
It's stayed at roughly 70000 - 80000 lbs (empty) since the R32.
Consider connecting Staten Island to the main land.
What about Staten Island?
Sammy Ershidat The cara on the SIR will be trucked over the Verrazano Bridge to Coney Island Yard.
They use coney island shop too. The SIR uses R44 cars. They been around since the 70s.
If it were up to me, I would've just constructed a smaller shop dedicated to SIRR needs...
Sammy Ershidat For heavy maintenance?
Craig F. Thompson True, But it takes time and money to do.
Also, what does a Staten Island tunnel have to do with subway car overhauls?
Cool 😎!!!
all the shuttle services are part of the IRT???
How the 7 train get to 207th street yard. Do they have a track to the 1 line
Bruh them C trains back in 08 was moving
Therer211
is soon coming so stay tune to it so you can ride it
Can you get the people loitering out of our subways. They're attacking people constantly.
This is where they build subway trains like this. 🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃
Orion Harmon Actually, the trains are built in factories in the State and over the country. Seen in this video is the maintenance shop, where the trains are repaired in between revenue service runs.
@@TheRailLeaguer You think so?
@@TheRailLeaguer I think that's what I was saying they build subway trains in places like that, factories they maybe but they also build subway trains in train depots. 🚂🚅🚋🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃
Orion Harmon yea.
Also, the train depot is where the trains are maintained, but you were close enough.
Are you keeping the r32s
Joshua Cunningham They will keep most, if not all, R32s until the R211 cars arrive in a few years.
The last run for the r32s will be in 2022 or earlier if they get the R211s early
BryanPlayzRoblox -ROBLOX Hopefully. The R32 and R42 fleet have the LOWEST MDBF rates in the entire fleet, so they need to go ASAP before they break down in the middle of rush hour.
how would he know?
Riff Raff who?
Odd to see the R142s with no wheels
9 train Where else do you expect the MTA to do repairs on the R142 cars that are out of the scope of the IRT maintenance shops?
@@TheRailLeaguer 180th, but first they need to expand it to half the size it is today, and what I meant is the R142 with NO WHEELS.
9 train Specify clearly next time.
Also, let’s say that there is maintenance East 180th Street (and other Yards) can’t do. Where do you suggest they do the repairs?
@@TheRailLeaguer 207th, and that's EXACTLY where I want them to go to get repaired.
Where you want them to get repaired. 🤣🤣🤣 the mta doesnt care where you want them repaired
I need a Good Job
How can I sign up.!
A Google User sorry but your wrong about knowing somebody, the list is generated by dcas and only then can people be called from that list , civil service test there is no favoritism
@@robfrmny21DCAS does not control transit civil service exams anymore, now the MTA does their own civil service exams (god help us) and listing.
No one knows
Mta.info.com & look for the employment section on the website
Skills gap my ass.
What happened to the r110b and the r110A it was my favorite trains
They retired in 2000
Ok
I wish they could rebuild the r44
Zaki Bostic They are nearly 50 years old. It’s a lost cause at this point since the R211s will be here in 1.5 years.
JeremiahC99 I can’t wait to see R211 on the Q and getting the bumpy R46 out of the system.
MTA, what you need to focus on is upgrading of the signaling communications system, not subway car overhaul. I hear lots of bad things about signaling and how outdated it is.
I am from Winnipeg, Canada where we don't have the luxury of a subway system.
LilZebra Subway car overhauls are one step to improving reliability. It would prevent trains from suffering mechanical problems that trains experience a lot. In the near future, new R211 cars will be delivered to replace older unreliable cars. The signaling system is also being upgraded to CBTC, so they have to focus on BOTH the signals AND the subway cars to truly fix the subway.
There are many different issues causing problems and all need to be addressed. Not attending to everything concurrently is why we have a signal system from World War 2. Addressing all issues simultaneously ensures that one single factor doesn't bring everything to a halt.
Upgrading the signaling system would require a shut-down. Upgrading the system is something the MTA has intentions of doing, but overhauling the entire system is a monster to tackle at once. Therefore, the progress is gradual.
they have to shut down the whole subway system to fix it
it would be chaos
@@KeithH30 Actually, the signal system wss installed WELL BEFORE WW2; try sup'm more like 1904, when the system first opened....
You still have cars from 1964? I didn't think they could possibly last even close to 55 years.
roachtoasties They are still holding on to them for service increases and the fact that cars built after them (R44s) has serious structural problems, and the fact the R32 replacements have been delayed. They will be replaced by the R211s in the 2020s which will rid the system of its LEAST RELIABLE cars and upgrade the system.
they are already 55 yrs
@@TheRailLeaguer no
@@m0dze1532 What do you mean no?
@@TheRailLeaguer the r32 is still reliable
Great job . I just don't understand the 6 train were the first ones to get the r142a now they were converted to the r188 for the 7 line . I just want to know when will the r62a on the 6 line go and will we go back to r 142 a or a new one
frank scalera First they will the replace the R62As when they need to. Second, WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH SUBWAY CAR OVERHAULS?
Im going to work here
I honestly miss the r33 cars and hope that they don’t get rid of the r35 subway cars
Carl Headley They don’t have an R35 car.
I meant R32 subway car
Carl Headley They will get rid of those when new CBTC-compatible and modern R211 cars come online.
@@TheRailLeaguer In every comment you hate old trains, your weird
@@TheStig_TG How?
It’s a shame the same can’t be said for the subway infrastructure i.e. chamber’s street Manhattan J/Z line and many others stations……….
Many of the stations are more than 100 years old and have had trains going through them 24/7 for almost all that time. It costs a tremendous amount of money to maintain the system. At least the tracks are maintained much better than they used to be to insure a safer ride.
@@1575murray Tokyo ? London ? Moscow ?
Awesome 👏 But Still needs a Upgrade in Design especially Outerside Of Coach !! 🧐🧐😜😜🤓🤓🤩🤩

Wowwwwwwwww
HELLO MTA HOW ABOUT A PLACE TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE ? Or HOW ABOUT RESTORING ANTIQUE CARS NOT JUST ONCE A YEAR NEW YORK BRINGS IN TOURISM BY THE MILLIONS DIFFERENT WITH DIFFERENT TRAIN CARS .
Kyng Kraken The new R211s will feature USB charging.
For 1 and 6 trains too
Nelson What do you mean?
Hopefully the R262
That means no r46 howling Motor folks!
Make it louder
Would it be possible to go on a tour of that yard?
How can i sign up
So why the fuck is it that the heat never works in my cab.
Canella Gomez Broken ACs, which the yards usually fix.
MTA when are you guys are going to make the new train of R211 train it begin two years
the king boy They are building the cars now.
Oh ok than that good
Keep investing in new cars
Umberto Fournier New R179s are being delivered and the R211s are coming in next year. The R262s will be funded in the 2020-2024 capital plan.
Also, since the cars have a life span of 40 years, the cars will have to be routinely inspected. The R160 and R188s have withstood the test of time and are some of the more reliable cars because of this.
Definitely the 6 line needs a Newer Trains Since they took all of it out and put them on the 7 line Because of the CBTC
Union Shop, UGH!!!!!!!
Will the cars smell good after this overhaul? Will there be AC in these cars? Will the staff be polite?
Making another train will take a lot of work and cars so take a break for 2-3 years before making a new one
You do realize that there much of the fleet that’s will always be near 40 years of age, right?
@@TheRailLeaguer no I don't even know
like train
Come on what Staten Island subway cars don’t count ..
Tony DNY If the need work Clifton Yard can’t perform, they will be trucked over the Verrazano Bridge to the Coney Island Shop.
Staten Island Railway is subject to receive the R211T railcars. They are to be in the planning and making, once the R211 series has been added to the New York City Subway lines. I do not believe that Staten Island should be a forsaken borough.
Hi
Oh
Sorry one year
first
Overhaul......
Heh....
MTAS HEAD OF NEW IDEAS SHOULD BE FIRED HE STINKS
Kyng Kraken How does this relate to subway car overhauls?
Because you they need to overhaul new technology into train cars not just mechanical functions we’re almost in 2020 with the same concepts the public is paying more for refurbished old concepts
Kyng Kraken The R32 and R42s should be gone by 2025 with the R179 and R211s, and new R262s will come in at around the same time to replace the R62 and R62As.
The simplest of tech is not even there such as garbage disposal baskets in train cars themselves decent working restrooms maybe a restroom train car with attendant additional train fare will get you to use it
Kyng Kraken I do t think we need a restroom in a subway car. This isn’t the LIRR or Metro North.
