    This song can basically be summed up as "Odysseus gets hit full blunt force in the face with all his trauma and survivor's guilt."

      Every problem he ever caused and survived at the cost of the people he cared about. It reminds him of not just how much he lost but how many people he killed to stick to his beliefs

    Fun fact: Those in the underworld are repeating their last thoughts when they died, Polites even when the world met him with club to the face, believed in open arms

      and, since the livestream confirmed, polites died when he was struck the second time. meaning even as he lay dying from being struck, he looked at his captain and wanted him to still greet the world with open arms.

      I liked the addition in the animatic that he threw away his sword, I've no idea how lore accurate it is to Mr. Jalapeno but I always think of him as a similar thing to Andrew Garfield's character in that on mildrama I forgot the name of for some fucking reason why is my brain ass!?

    Every reaction video I watch, every animatic, every time I loop the track on Apple Music, I still get choked up on two lines:
    1. “Mom?”
    2. “I took too long.”
    Nothing hurts more than seeing Ody realize that his mother has died, and it’s all because he took too long to come home. Heartbreaking.

    I remember first listening to this song when it released, I stopped everything to call my mom. After a decent conversation she asked why I called, and I told her a song made me miss her. She called me a bitch, and we both laughed after. Jorge has crafted an awesome song that stirred me to act, and I’ll hold him in high repute for this achievement.

    Actually, there's a bit of a fun fact (there's a bunch of fun facts with this one but I think this is the last one people haven't covered yet) Odysseus had 43 men left after the encounter with Poseidon, but clearly one extra person died because they mentioned that 558 men died under his command, and in the mythology there is a certain person named elpenor, he got drunk on top of cersei's Palace and fell off of it to his death, and then he was immediately forgotten, even Jorge was going to include him in the underworld song, but he cut the portion out because he felt it made it too comedic, so the only thing left to remember the character meant to be forgotten is one extra tally in The book of the Dead.

    The one thing i dont like about this interpretation is that it makes it seem like Odysseus got closure from seeing Polites again, which is the _Opposite_ of what is happening
    Polites' was A LOT of Odysseus emotional/mental support.
    The voices/screams/thoughts of the infant, they all _Die Down_ when Odysseus hears Polites' voice.
    There's HOPE/Relief in the first "Polites"
    But thats not _really_ Polites. Just his spirt, stuck in a deathloop. He cant SEE Odysseus, or interact with him. Cant offer any comfort.
    Thats why Odysseus' 2nd "Polites" sounds so dejected/lost
    All he got was a reminder of what he lost. His best friend is GONE. Odysseus lost him forever.
    Then he sees his mom & its like a 2-hit KO
    Thats why he starts screaming back at the voices. He cant take it anymore. Bro's reaching his limit.

    The moment of "I took too long" hits me the hardest. Beautiful performance.
    Also very excited for the next animatic, as well as Thunderbringer from Neal. If you want any extras though, I also recommend Brittpowwpixel's Thunderbringer since she adds in a very cool interpretation in there that, to me, makes a lot of sense.

    First? Edits probably incoming...
    Oh before getting into things I know a few things to bring up: The souls of the dead are singing the last thoughts they had as they died so his sailors are blaming him, Polites still believed that peace and love should prevail, and his mom... well fk our hearts right? Oh and Ody's Mom is played by Jorge's actual Mother!
    Edit '1': Oh also if the "Friend's close" animatics are correct (and I believe Jorge said it was true, but don't quote me on that one)... Mommy Ody likely saw his ships coming close to home... before a magical storm popped up outta nowhere and ripped them all away. *OH* and in The Odyssey meeting mom is kind of worse. He has a minor conversation with her where he asks her for one last embrace she says something like "I'm just a soul Ody, I can't touch you" as she floats away from him. He tries three times.
    Edit 2: Don't worry about getting emotional in this song, anyone that doesn't has got to have some sort of problems imo. How can a living feeling human not feel bad hearing a dead mom sing about how she will always be waiting for her child to return?

      Was wondering who would be the first to break this to him.
      @OldManReacts :
      If you need to pause and get a drink after your first watch of these, no one's gonna blame you. This was heavy. But Jorge adds more weight with each Saga. So brace and pace yourself. We all been through this story. We're going to be here with you for it. We'll all be like Giles Corey and go out weeping 'more weight'. I love your takeaways. You somehow have the most level headed emotional reactions on YT and it's amazing.

    Though I normally watch UA-cam videos at 1.75x speed there have been a few times during rewatches where I cried when it was revealed that his mom died. My parents are divorced and I live with my mom and even though we disagree on some stuff I can't imagine life without her in it. Such a good song and animatic all around.

    Love your insight and stories on all of these videos! I checked out your playlist and this is not a spoiler I just wanted to let you know Neal Illustrator’s Thunder Bringer might be slightly confusing because in canon the song is set somewhere else. It’s still an absolutely gorgeous animatic! If you’d like one with the canon location I’d recommend Duvetbox. If not I can comment more details when you get to Thunder Bringer. Hope you have a great day!!

    Duvetbox vs Neal Illustrator's "Thunder Bringer" is the new Anniflamma vs Gigi's "Ruthlessness"
    Both animations are LOVELY of course, but i prefer Duvetbox's for many reasons (for one, Duvetbox keeps the canon location)
    Alas

    • @akaittou
      @akaittou 4 місяці тому +6

      Duvetbox has the location, but Neal has the unquestionably best Zeus characterisation. Both are _really_ good though, and I keep both in my personal playlist.
      Funnily enough, Neal Illustrator's "Ruthlessness" has overtaken both Anniflamma's and Gigi's for me 😂

    • @audreyii6750
      @audreyii6750 4 місяці тому +1

      @@akaittou I _love_ Neal's Zeus, but his characterization doesn't quite fit EPIC's Zeus imo.
      Same for their Odysseus, he's too aware & his reactions are too "normal", meanwhile EPIC!Odysseus is hubristic (for example, he still thinks he can talk his way out of Poseidon's wrath, that's why he doesn't really sound scared until 500 of his men die)
      I feel Duvetbox's interpretation of Odysseus aligns more with how he comes across in EPIC & Neal's Zeus fits more as a stand-alone animatic than one following the characterization laid out in "The Horse & the Infant")
      I LOVE their interpretation of Poseidon! But Anniflamma's is still my personal go-to since her Odysseus fits more with EPIC imo than Neal's

    • @akaittou
      @akaittou 4 місяці тому +1

      @@audreyii6750 It's very interesting, since to me Anniflamma's Ruthlessness has the Odysseus depiction that works with the Epic narrative as a whole the least out of the three. But then, I'm also that poor bastard who literally has written a BA thesis on the historical linguistic evolution of what an apology is, and keeps a copypaste of its etymological origins at hand specifically for Ruthlessness purposes 😂

    • @audreyii6750
      @audreyii6750 4 місяці тому

      @@akaittou I see EPIC!Odysseus as _immensely_ cocky. In "Ruthlessness" he 100% believes he can talk his way out of a _god's wrath_
      Vocally he's not worried at all/doesnt depict much emotion until "What have you done?"
      Like, he's even straight up _lying_ to Poseidon "We meant no harm" and "We took no pleasure in his pain" are both lies, canonical (per the stage directions) Odysseus is _furious_ in "Remember Them" + his last words are a _taunt_
      Neal's Odysseus IS worried & understands the gravity of the situation.
      Anniflamma's Odysseus has a cheeky little look during his apology, he's so sure of himself
      Gigi's Odysseus is somewhere in the middle
      (Neal's & Anniflamma's Poseidon are both perfect to me tho)
      I'm SUPER excited for Neal Illustrator's "God Games" tho, I'm pretty sure that's the animatic they're currently working on!

    Not so fun facts! Odysseus's mother was waiting, watching for her son's fleet to return home. She saw them within miles of the shore, when the wind bag was opened and the storm swept the fleet away. She thought she had watched her son die, and died of grief and a broken heart.
    Her voice in this musical is Jorge's (Odysseus) real life mother!
