    Great video! Always exciting to see the new calves and how they make their mark on the world. Seems as though the one calf should be on your football team. Looking forward to more. Thanks Josh!

    Enjoying the step on with more behind the scenes on the science stuff Josh. You mentioned that you leave two piles of feed aside for those running the trials to load - how does that relationship work and who is in overall charge of animal husbandry - i.e. do you and the rest of the farming team have ultimate say in animal welfare and care or are the research team in charge?

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! We leave a pile of silage there when we feed the main batch of sheep. Some of the sheep team or science techs then come and deal with feeding them and taking the data. Farm team would cast an eye over the sheep just to make sure they are all ok every day.

    Very busy video and very interesting to see the whole layout for the cows and sheep them sheds are what us part time farmer's can only dream about ps had visions of Jon needing a new scraper 🤣

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  Рік тому

      The shed shed is a bit extreme for what it is, but it houses the science set up as well!

    Hi Josh very interesting this morning good job you have one of them fancy sticks to keep track of the stock you lost me, they can run them there youngster, you did well trying to keep up ha ha I couldn't do that nowadays. What a lovely place to work. Great stuff take care. Ps seen your gilets they even got my enital on them.

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  Рік тому

      The calf was a fair bit quicker than me! The stick is brilliant for moving animals around and doing all the other routine stock work! Haha brilliant, you'll have to get yourself one! 👀

    Another enjoyable vid as always Josh, the dairy farm I worked on back in the 90s had one big open yard for calving and the individual calf pens were part of a converted castle very cramped and tiny compared to what your set up is, anyway hope calving goes smoothly for you all mate.

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  Рік тому +1

      Thank you very much! Jon has adapted this shed to make it much more user friendly for us and the animals.

    What do you mean....greens and blues?

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  Рік тому +1

      They are names of management groups we have on the farm. Greens are on permanent pasture, blues are on grass/legume mix.

    What size are the calving pens and what width is the passage way in front of them?

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  Рік тому

      Without measuring I would say the pens are 12ft x 12ft and the passage about 4 ft wide.

    • @ex1352
      @ex1352 Рік тому

      @@JMFarming Would you measure it for me if you can, I'm trying to rearrange my set up and was thinking of 10ft x 10ft, your pens look an ideal size.
