I love the bow blade! The way the material builds up, the sound of the scraping, the way the ground looks once completed....this video has a great camera too.
Nice job, Tom. Yeah non-content makers don’t really get how hard it is to make these videos. You do an excellent job, thanks for taking us along today! Cheers.!
First few runs, shorten the top linkage so that only the scarifer teeth bite in hard. Repeat until you have ripped up the entire driveway. Only then retract your teeth upside down. Then lengthen your top linkage which will allow the box blade to contact the ground . Keep making passes and lengthening the top linkage so that your final passes have the box blade level with the ground. Just practice
Nice job. I have a John Deere 1023E and the 5' version of your box blade from Frontier. The model # of mine is a BB2060L. You are correct about the 5' box blade probably being a little too much for the 1 series. However, I can accomplish exactly what you did in the video with your 4' blade. I just have to go about it in 2 different steps. My 5' blade has 5 scarifiers where yours has 3. I find that my tractor can pull all 5 in the lowest position but I have to shorten the top link more than you show in the video when I do. This way I am only ripping the ground and not trying to carry material at the same time because the loose rock and dirt can exit the back. I then raise the scarifiers back up and level the box. The tractor can pull all 5 rippers or move a full box of loose material. It just can't do both at the same time. One advantage of the 5' is I can easily grade right up beside a sidewalk, landscape timber, or concrete pad because the 5' is about 6" wider on each side of the tractor. Another huge advantage of my setup is I have a hydraulic top link. This makes the top link adjustment fast and effortless. Keep up the great content!
Just another helpful hint after using the scarifiers level your box blade on level ground and lock your down lever about an inch from the ground so you can’t drop the box blade all the way down and run back and forth that way then you won’t have gravel on both ends to remove it will distribute it out evenly
I just found a used BB2048L at a dealership about an hour away. They wanted $500 for it and it was in fair shape, so I bought it before someone else did. (LOL) The dealer told me a new one was $1150. I personally wanted a 5 tine 5060L, but after running this smaller 2048L, I'm thinking the 5060L would have been pushing the limits of the 1025R. Not to say it couldn't do it, but you'd be really making the tractor work. My only real complaint about the 2048L is the 3 scarifiers. I wish it had more, becasue it leaves a huge gap between the scarifiers when you use them, making it necessary to have to do multiple passes. But more tractor time is more fun time. It did work well for me when I tired it out, and my driveway is much better.
Looks great! Can you do a follow up video and explain how you set the angle of your box? Cutting vs spreading. I think that would really help folks. Thanks
I know it’s another piece of equipment to purchase but the best attachment I’ve found for gravel driveway maintenance is a land plane. The results are so much better than a box blade for finishing a gravel driveway. Each attachment has its purpose and I believe the land plane is the one for gravel driveways. Just my opinion and everyone has one.
This is what I was thinking. A Land plane with scarifiers is best for driveway maintenance. A Box blade is for moving large amounts of material from one place to another, which is not what driveway maintenance calls for.
I've been out of tune for a while but as fate would have it, I was looking for a video to do just this on my driveway. I was hesitant on the scarifiers as well but after watching this, I hope I can get mine to look that good! Thanks for posting! Great job!
Thanks for showing this. I just got my 4' box blade for my Kubota and have been unsure on how to start work on my driveway. Hopefully I will have time this weekend to start work in my driveway.
The driveway came out lookin good. I don't have a gravel driveway or a box blade but I think that you repaired it like I would have. (From other videos that I have seen). Thanks for sharing.
Awesome job buddy. Looks great!. When I do driveways, the piles at the end, I raise the box, drive foreward, drop box to the ground and push backwards. I have my box leaning foreward, so the rear blade is about 1/4 to 1/2" off the ground. This helps to spread the piles as you back into them. Eventually it is all spread evenly and there is no pile to deal with. Great job though. If I ever get caught up doing my jobs, I will start recording again. I have been so busy I haven't recorded since our last snow fall.
If you need any crown in your drive, just adjust your three point hitch to make the outside lower. The crown helps with water runoff. I recommend driving all over your drive. If you just drive in the same tracks, that area will pack more and cause water to stand.
Our drive is 1.4 miles long and has been here for 30+ years. A professional wanted $40,000 to do an overhaul of it. I can keep busy with my GC1715 (yes, it is a red tractor) and my 4 foot box blade. Work on a small section at a time.
Funny I bought a brand new 2025R and I ended up buying a box blade for it but I went with a 60 inch since the 2025 is a little wider than 4 foot. I’m just curious if it’s gonna be powerful enough I might have to run it with only three of the scarifiers down instead of five.
I noticed people seem to have trouble around your bridge , is there anyway you could extend the bridge a couple feet on both sides of the road to widen out the bridge and make it less stressful for delivery vehicles to cross
I think one day it will need a total redo, but would hate do a quick fix that probably wouldn't last. That being said, I'm getting some concrete for my pole barn and if I have any extra and am going to put it in a trouble area.
Is box blade wanting to scoop up a lot of material? I agree with the op on land plane or landscape rake. In the meantime you may try extending your top link to just catch the material on the back side of the rear cutting edge white driving forward ( keeping the front cutting edge from making contact with the material) this will help smooth your work out. A tow behind box works better for finishing also than a 3 point. 3 points are best for moving large amounts of material, but you use what you have and make adjustments to affect an outcome.
I bought a lightly used John Deere Frontier Box Blade, To move some dirt around & level out a space for a horse barn, Unfortunately before I could complete the project, I noticed the box blade sitting crooked, unlevel - found the mast support structures had bent significantly, So had to adjust the tractor level connection uneven to get it to ride halfway level to complete the project. It’s a poor design, No vertical supports between the mast to take the force of several hundreds of pounds of dirt or if you catch a root, etc… Took it to a dealer, who said they could straighten, But then wanted to sell me 2 new mast, Instead of fixing these, Wants $700 just to put 2 pieces of metal on. All because it was poorly design from the factory. I’ll find away to straighten it myself.
Sounds like you may have hydraulic leak down or bypass. It could be as simple as someone loose letting the rock shaft go down. A tractor mechanic can probably fix it in short order, but will probably have to open up the rear of the tractor where you 3 point hydraulics are.
Looks like you ended up with a smooth driveway, good job.
Rewatched for the storytelling, the box blade process and the calming noise of the video! I love your channel and the content you provide!

This is just a smooth process, thanks for your commentary.
The Box Blade to me is the best attachment and you show it to be eady to use!
First few passes really need to be scarifiers only. No need for moving a box blade full of gravel...great job. Did mine yesterday .150 metres long.

Perfect advice. Also it may be easier to rip at half depth first then go full depth. No need to have the box full at every pass.
Love your video very informative and helps me understand how to operate my 1025 R and what I expect from it.

I absolutely love your channel and the content your provide! You have a twin sir...

Marvelous video. Beautiful photography , editing and content. Darn fine tractor work, too. Thank you so much.

Excellent results! I believe you earned your "Masters in Box Blading"!
Very helpful. I just purchased my 1025r and have a 300’ gravel drive. Box scraper will be necessary.
Thank you for taking the time to make the video

Nice job. Great video.
Cannot wait for my box blade to arrive. Have a mile of driveway that is desperate for this treatment.
Nice work. You should look into a hydraulic top link. It's a nice addition and I wish I had added one years ago.
Good job well done.
Great job.

Nice job
Pretty little spot
New service, Drone Tree Trimming!
Great job, it’s something I need to do also 👍🏻
what do you do with the dirt that comes with resurfacing rock driveways?
I noticed people seem to have trouble around your bridge , is there anyway you could extend the bridge a couple feet on both sides of the road to widen out the bridge and make it less stressful for delivery vehicles to cross

About to tackle my 1st box blade dirt driveway task before some crushed asphalt arrives. How’d the drive hold up after this 1 year old vid.? Thanks
Winter usually does a number on our drive. So pretty much once a year in the spring I box blade it again.
What's the purpose of scarifiying here?
Great Job! Thanks for sharing! Can I ask what software you use to edit your videos? And what camera do you use?
Mostly iMovie, sometimes Final Cut Pro. Insta 360 One X2. amzn.to/3M1owvu
DJI Pocket 2. amzn.to/3z99CAU DJI Air2 and Iphone 12 pro.
Amazing results! I really admire your attitude and work ethic. How many passes with the box blade did you have to make?
In the past with just a quick fix of the driveway it would be 20 minutes and maybe 6-8 passes. This time was a few hours and 25 to 30z
@@ataleofthreecabins1025 Hopefully it will hold up for a long time. I'm sure you will keep us updated. Thanks for the response.
Great video, is the pole barn held up again?
Update coming Tuesday.
This is why I love my land plane. Just so much easier.
I was thinking this watching the video. My first time using one ever and a rookie with a tractor made my driveway look like it was professionally done
Hold on you don't have a dedicated film crew filming while your operating heavy equipment ;) Just Kidding and stay safe. Great result with scarafiers.
I have trouble handling a 4' BB behind my 1025R... but I'm grooming a beach sand driveway.
Sounds like you need a rake or landplane.
@@ataleofthreecabins1025 I did go out a buy a 5' landplane, works like a dream.

What kinda drone do you have?
Magic Air 2
What brand is the quick connect ??
The Harbor Freight with a modified top hook by Ken’s bolt on hooks.
you look like your winning at life
