My favorite version all time is still hands down Walnut Creek Ampitheater Raleigh, NC 7/22/1997. There was a lightening/thunderstorm of Biblical proportion taking place during the song. You can even hear thunderclaps in the audio during Page's initial solo as lightening struck in the woods right by the ampitheater. The band was energized and took this version to the next level. it probably felt Type-2 to you because if you are only familiar with the album version, it sounds like they are playing to the peak you heard on the album when, around 4:50 they kind of turn away from that buildup and start a longer jam lead by trey's mellow tones at first and building to a big hook (hook at 8:05). Then finally it comes back to close off the song the way you heard it on the album (from 9:37 on). However, all of that is always part of the song live. The exact notes are improvised, how they get from one place to another, but they basically cut away from their first build and then have a longer jam to that big hook. It was cut from the album version of the song, where time constraints often truncate their songs. That's why you have to hear the songs live. Once you know the live song, you'll be better able to hear when it really really departs. That's type 2. When it basically goes into structureless (or at least not pre-conceived) improvisation
Taste is so fun live! I got one at dicks last year, hadn't even dropped anything, and i could've sworn i was flying. Staring up into those lights while those soaring guitar licks swirl around you... man its cool! 8/2/17 is another cool version, albeit very different. Great showcase of 3.0.
