  • Repashy Gel Foods are a high quality fish food that is very popular among breeders. The one catch to this food, is while it is a "pre-made" food, it does actually require a little bit of assembly!

    I'm new to the hobby and so far I love rapashy I just have 9 panda coridoras and a betta. I love the fact that you can freeze it for 6 months really convenient, the smell to me it is not to bad. Although I was worried about what my wife will say about that smell and she did not complain about it. yes it might be a little bit of work but if u make enough and freeze it you will have some food for 6 months.

    A comment on your gelling firmness...... if your water is sitting on the counter like that for a few minutes, your likely not getting a firm gel because the water literally should be bubbling when you add the powder. Also, when you transfer the water from your boiling container to a second container, as well as dip with the stainless scoop, this pulls heat out of the water..... best way is to boil the water in the microwave and then add your powder to the same container it was boiled in, and do this immediately after you pull it out of the microwave.

      I'll keep that in mind! I made a flat of the bottom scratcher formula after this one and it gelled over no problem. Same water.

      @@DilettanteCulture It should gel hard enough to bounce like a ball ;)

      Followed this method and it dissolved beautifully. Am using the super green variety for my otocinclus and will go with more powder next time so the gel is firmer in my small molds. I used 1 to three. Next time 1 to 2 for sure.

    What a coincidence. I just made a batch Repashy (Soilent Green) for the first time this morning.
    Pretty easy to make. Made it to a ratio of 1:3 (food to water) . Gelled up nicely.
    Mixed it in the garage, since I heard it does smell a bit. It did, but not too bad.
    Cut it into cubes and placed into basement freezer for storage.
    I'll see if the fish like it later today. 🐠🐟🐸🐬🐟🐠
    Good video. 📺 😀

    Just made a small batch of Igapo Explorer. Smell was not too bad at all. I used 1 part powder to 2.5 parts water and the consistency looks ok, it started setting straight away

    I have cute little silicone gummy bear molds for my Repashy. My Cory's gobble it all up, they love it!

  • @aaronball9640
    @aaronball9640 4 місяці тому

    My local shop feeds this to their Cory's and pleco's. They told me they mix up a batch and then let it sit in the refrigerator for 12 hours (to let it set up) before feeding it.

    LOVE the stuff!! Community, SG & Super Gold (the goldfish one) are my go-tos.

    I use Repashy Super Gold (the creator is Ken from Dandy Orandas) for all my fish, snails, and shrimp. I also add Spirulina and Calcium Carbonate for the invertebrates 🙂. I normally add 1 scoop food to 2 scoops water with a little extra water. I personally like it firmer because I do add other powders to it and having it more on the firmer side, it keeps it's shape better. I tried softer, but it does break down faster and tends to cloud the water.

    Soylent green for snails and shrimp. I dip rocks from my tank in it and put it in and they snack. Its stable for days but it's gone in one. The rest I put in silicone half tube ice trays

    After you freeze it, do you put it in the tank frozen or bring it to room temperature first?

    I have a question about these repashy cubes. You say to put them in the freezer to keep their life span longer, so once I take them out to feed do I throw them in the tank when they are frozen? Or do I let it thaw before I throw it in the tank?

    Thanks Michael. Just found some help on feeding my 3 otocinclus from Irene at Girl Talks Fish and her video mentioned Repashy Solient Green. However, she didn't cover the prep process which, of course, you just did. Great! I did a one to two and a half ratio as I didn't want it too watery, cut away a small cube and stowed the rest in the freezer. Fingers crossed that they'll eat it. I've heard too many horror stories of otocinclus dying of starvation because they just wouldn't eat the usual foods......

      How did they like it?

    • @frankhoo-mook5039
      @frankhoo-mook5039 4 роки тому

      Ryan Wilson They took to it ok initially , but they are not aggressive eaters and I have developed a problem with nuisance bladder snails that snuck in on a plant. Result is they jump onto the repashy in droves and crowd out the Otos. Now I have a bigger problem on my hands.....

      Hmmm. In my experience, as long as you have some wood with some biofilm on it, oto’s will be happy. I’ve never directly fed my oto’s anything but I’ve always had spiderwood (redmoor) in my tanks and Ive had oto’s live for years even with a terrible snail problem like you’re experiencing. If you don’t have any wood in your tank, I’d try that.
      I’ve considered repashy in the past but never tried it.

    • @frankhoo-mook5039
      @frankhoo-mook5039 4 роки тому

      Thanks Ryan. Maybe that’s why they look healthy despite my snail problem. I’ve got a good size piece of driftwood covered by plants so maybe they’ve been munching on it undercover.....that’s a relief!
