      @@falcon64z8 I know. No more Aegean Blue or Blazing Orange is wild leaving Rallye Red the only bright color in the lineup.
      I like red as much as others out there, but at least give us replacement colors for the Aegean Blue and Blazing Orange like Boost Blue that was on the FK8 Civic Type R and is on the FL5 Civic Type R and the yellow from the DC2 Integra Type R or Honda S2000 or even that neon green that was on that 10th gen Civic Si coupe for the 11th gen Civic Si to brighten the options up.

    I test drove a 10th gen and fell in love with the platform. Found an 11th gen to test as well and loved it... hopefully getting a 2025 here soon!
    I didn't even give it a second thought originally. Didn't think a Civic was what I wanted, the numbers weren't impressive. But you're right, something about the car just feels amazing and I can't put my finger on it. It just WANTS you to have fun with it.

    I've got a 2013 Si, and when I first got it, I was shocked to find how much the LSD helps in bad weather! My friends lives on the backside of a mountain, and after a night of playing video games, I left at midnight to find myself practically snowed in! Yet I easily made my way up the mountain and back down the other side in 3rd gear with no issue - it was actually a lot of fun. There were several AWD Rav4s and CRVs stuck on the road on the way up too, I couldn't really believe that I was motoring on through.

    Yes! The subjective quality is something that gets missed in a bunch of reviews especially with Car and Driver type reviews. Thanks for adding those comments in. The older I get and the more experience I have with different cars the less I can tell about how much I like a car based on the spec sheet. It's easy to get sucked into the numbers but man do they not mean much in a lot of cases.

      I drove a Forte GT manual, and it's no comparison. It just feels worse, it's in the quality and feedback from the all the controls, and how it feels overall. It's hard to quantify, but you can definitely feel it.

    Great review, with many nuances I've not seen other reviewers cover.
    I bought a new '25 Si in the same color (Urban Gray Pearl) 4 weeks ago, and I love it. For the sake of comparison, I traded in a '24 Civic Sport Touring Hatchback with 6-speed manual. I liked the Sport Touring Hatchback, and it's a very nice car for the money, but it was never fun to drive. More engaging with the 6MT than a CVT, but still not fun. The Si is fun to drive, and much more fun to drive hard than the ST hatch ever was. A little more power, a much better engine tune, much better handling, heavier steering, and a more sporty feeling car all around. It feels faster than it is, and IMHO it handles very well for a FWD car.
    Three things:
    1. The LSD makes a difference and I'm very glad to have it. There is a hint of understeer when cornering hard, but the LSD really helps pull the car through the corner.
    2. Matt is right about the Si being bouncy. The ride is firm, not harsh, but the suspension is tuned in such a way that you'll feel undulations in the pavement more than in other Civic trims.
    3. His comment about the wireless charger is spot-on. I don't miss it from the ST hatch because it rarely worked. When it did work, it was great at heating up my phone, which isn't good for the phone. You're better off just plugging your phone in to charge it.
    Matt makes a lot of great points here, but I think the best is that a Civic Si is a better car overall than how it appears on its spec sheet. No, it won't blow you away with power or luxury features, but in my opinion (which is of course somewhat biased) for its $31K sticker price it's really hard to beat.

      Is there a difference in the transmission feel and throws between the ST 6 speed and the Si 6 Speed?

    • @timothycoyne5874
      @timothycoyne5874 3 місяці тому +1

      @@abraham3981 Not really. The transmission feels about the same to me. The engine response is different and the Si has a lighter flywheel, but I don't notice any big difference in transmission feel. The Si's throws are shorter and might be a little easier, but that could be due to the additional weight of its shift knob compared to the Sport and Sport Touring trim knob.

    16:18 well said. It’s one of those rare cars where all of the driving elements are really cohesive. Not necessarily the best, but the way the shifter, steering, and rest of the interface work together make for really “content” drives where you’re not distracted by any glaring detractors.

    Honda was never going to waste r&d dollars on giving the SI more power. It's a North American exclusive trim, they already have a performance sedan, and they are already focusing on moving the whole lineup to hybrid and EV. We may get one more generation of type R with this drivetrain but I won't be surprised if they drop the SI altogether after this generation

    I feel like Honda (and Acura for that matter.) need to work on their powertrains… specifically sportier ones. What they’re doing in terms of mpg and reliability *is* wonderful, but when it comes to sporty options, they’re severely lacking in terms of power. I cross shopped this with the Mazda3 hatch in a manual. Ended up going Mazda because they not only didn't mark it up, but offered more on my trade in. IMO the Honda dealerships greed is keeping these out of the hands of the people that want them.

    • @Dantastic123
      @Dantastic123 3 місяці тому +2

      I’m in the same boat. I cross shopped the Si, the Mazda 3, and surprisingly a Versa S manual. I’m leaning Versa/Mazda 3. Mazda was giving me DOUBLE what anyone else would for my trade-in. It made the difference between the Versa and Mazda 3 only $7k. And I could almost get TWO Versas for what a new civic Si costs. I’m not making my decision until next spring, but I have to decide if the creature comforts are worth the added expense over the bare bones high mpg Versa. I already own an older Versa and actually really like it.

      @Dantastic123 the comfort & fit and finish of the Mazda3 is genuinely impressive. I traded my 22' civic hatchback for it because it had an annoying rattle inside the dash, the stuck on screen also rattled and there was a rattle in the pillar right where your ear is. Drove me nuts. Maybe the fixed manufacturing/assembly improvements now that they've been making it for a couple years. The 1 to 2 shift on the mazda gearbox is a little weird & takes some getting used to but I think it doesn't get the credit it deserves.

      And if you want to talk about 1-2 shift being weird… try a Versa, lol. It took the better part of a year for me to get just “OK” at it. It’s almost like first gear is a granny gear, but second gear is just barely too high to start out in. Pretty much gotta floor 1st gear to redline, then hit second like you’re driving through a crowded school parking lot.

    Two comments on one video from me. This car's rated power specs are not accurate, because in basically every test on a dyno, it makes more than the rated power numbers. The theory is that Honda is now advertising wheel horsepower instead of their previous rating based on crank horsepower. Somehow, the Integra A-Spec makes about 10 more horsepower than the Si, and the Si is making about 222hp. That's how it manages a sub-7-second 0-60 time, especially if you consider how consistent the torque delivery is. It starts to build boost at 1800rpm and makes consistent power from about 2800rpm to redline. It does also have VTEC, but it's the modern i-VTEC implementation that is almost invisible to the driver. Owners might notice a slight nudge of extra power at the top of 3rd gear, around 5000rpm.

    After driving one he is the first thing you want to know…. It is slow :( half the cars on road will out run you stop light to stop light. Manual is great and fun to drive just slow :(. Test drove a golf GTI and it is smaller but allot more features. Leather seats, heated and cooled seats. More power, and has a dsg which is stupid quick shifting. Golf has been around for 30 years and has a ton of mods to make it closer to 300hp. The lack of extra power makes the hybrid civic out run it :( big fail on Honda not adding 25hp to it.

    How would you compare this to the new BRZ for a daily? I'm currently considering a 2025 BRZ or Civic Si to replace my 2013 BRZ. I like the idea of something with more refinement but still being fun to drive, after 9 years in a BRZ. I keep reading the Civic Si is noisy though, but being used to 2013 BRZ noise levels, I imagine it's still better than that lol. But would rather just get a new BRZ if the Si has a similar ride and noise level. But it seems like you just get so much more for your money in the Si. Decisions decisions haha

    • @MonkeyPower55
      @MonkeyPower55 Місяць тому

      Same, but something to consider is fuel economy and insurance premiums. I imagine the Si will save you money on both not to mention the practicality. I also think the Si sounds better although both use fake sounds.

    • @bfife22
      @bfife22 Місяць тому

      @@MonkeyPower55 Yeah I'm hoping to test drive a new Si soon. I don't have a long drive to work at all, so fuel economy isn't too high on my list. I did get to test drive a 24 BRZ Limited, and it is such a step up from my 2013. The new motor makes such a huge difference just driving it around at normal speeds, and the ride is noticeably better. I didn't expect such a big difference going in, the Si has a lot to live up to lol. The radio in the BRZ is still pretty bad though, just not as bad as mine haha

    I have a 2023 and it's the best car I think I've ever owned. Jealous of 2025+ owners with their heated seats and shift lights!
    That being said...don't these upgrades essentially make the manual Integra a moot point? Other than the hatchback and heated seats (plus some extra minor goodies) there's very little separating this car from the Integra, which is like $8k extra. I wonder what we will see from the Integra when it gets a refresh.

    I can’t believe they add the new features and then they removed satellite radio. That’s all I listen to so unfortunately I’m out and I really like the SI and I’ve been waiting for them to put the heated seats back with the digital dash like they get into Canada. Come on Honda. It’s almost the perfect car if they put satellite radio back in it if they could add lower lumbar support controls, it would be the perfect car for me at this price point.

    The only change Honda needed to make to this vehicle was availability. Because Honda production of the Si is very low, dealers are still adding $5k+ markups (at least in SoCal). At $37k (current "market" price in California) there are better options. Honda dealers have ruined this vehicle.

    The one meaningful improvement they missed out on was the K series engine. Otherwise, it seems quite nice enough. I've been a Honda man for over 30 years. They've always been good daily drivers. But, I have lost faith. The soul of Honda and their cars just seems gutted. The last Si I test drove had the rev-hang and that unsold the car, which would've been my 8th Honda. I'll just stick with my 2017 Accord coupe with the very nice V6.

    It’s crazy they don’t give this car the power it needs. If they built the cars the way they built the integrals of old in the 90s it would have way more than 200 hp it’s been over 20 years come on Honda almost equivalent to the fast and furious movies getting outdated. 2.0 to a 2.4 to 1.5 makes no sense oh a turbo great your late to the party and the motor is glass when the piston and rods are half the size.

    Honda does it well at what they do but they do skimp on stuff - power or otherwise. Have a 24 Si, and they just readded what were already there before, as you said. No reason just to skimp on them for the first 3 years of 11th gen.
    I'm almost thinking of switching to a GTI 380s for that reason.
