I find the best way to load larger diameter plates like 25s is to put smaller diameter plates (5s and 10s) toward the shaft and then the 25s on the outside to make it less unwieldy and more clearance for your fore arms...

THANK YOU for demonstrating the dumbbells resting on your thighs by the weight plates themselves rather than the dumbbell ends!!! I absolutely can't stand when people use that as a con as to why they won't purchase loadable dumbbells (the ends of the sleeves dig into my legs.....COME ON!!! lol) That's probably the single biggest complaint I hear anytime I show mine! One thing that worked for me when i need more weight and didn’t have more 5kg plates was load first a 5kg then a 10kg. This just improved the angle for my wrists in getting then, instead of putting the 10kg first.

I got the first wave of these last year, riding off of Coop's review. Holding up really nicely. Some dings on the collar from metal on metal, as my 5kg plates have some slop, but I've since purchased some slimmer (and tighter) 10# plates. Reasons I got these over a DB set were as you stated: my infrastructure (weight horns) could support more plates, but I don't have space for a full DB rack. I've tried doing drop sets with them a few time, and as long as you have the plates nearby, transitions are pretty fast, certainly faster than with your standard collar. I love 'em.

Yes, need a review of the Allrounder! I have one, and like this, the workmanship is outstanding.
I will say though that the concept of slide lock collar works better in a barbell than dumbbells. You'd want these for convenience, to save time On barbells there's regular collars or these, and these are definitely faster. In the dumbbell world there are faster options: Nuobell, Bowflex, maybe Powerblocks.

I have IronMaster dumbbells that I use now. This would take up even less space in my small gym. I only use the IronMasters for anything over 50 pounds as my urethane dumbbells only go up to 50 pounds (small gym). Thoughts? I think I can still get more weight on my IronMasters than these. These could go higher, but would be too bulky due to using 25 pound plates.

I really like the built in collars. It makes me wish my adjustable db's had them. Mine are a pain in the ass to change weight on. I've found that using multiple 25 lb plates to be the best for kicking the weight up. I set the plate on the outside of my thigh, and it pushes the handle out far enough that it doesn't dig into your leg like using10lb plates does.

These are best if you're looking for a loadable dumbbell? Respectfully, I disagree. Got some ironmasters a couple years ago or so on your recommendation and I've been super happy with them. They rest on the legs nicely due to the big screw, and not only am I not afraid to drop them, but they've taken at least one decently nasty spill and have been fine. Also, they're expandable. I guess you could argue price, but this one is $500 with no weights, whereas the ironmasters are $520 with 90lbs of weight and a more standard 10lb handle+screw so no weird math. Plus you can reuse their weights for the loadable kettlebell. Even Coop left em out of his adjustable dumbbell comparison vid. Eh, just some thoughts. Love your content dude.

I have Rogue USA plates which are probably second thinnest and the 10s are 0.8" so if these were just 2 inches longer with 6"+ of loadable sleeve length people could probably create a 150+ lb dumbbell!

Typical quality collar that has.a very strong hold (like Rogue OSO, Rogue USA Aluminum, etc) is 1.5” wide. Those DB sleeves consume 2” of the loadable sleeve length with the built in collars. I respect the build quality, but the wasted 1/2” sleeve space make them a gimmick.

@@BasementBrandon That's fair. You highlighted the "what you can fit on the sleeve" element with StrengthCo plates (same plates I use), and I know from personal experience that an extra .50" can play an important factor. Yeah, the locking mechanism is a couple nanoseconds quicker than clipping a Rogue collar on, and that's cool, but as you also covered, the plate "slop" issue is left to dumb luck. As a user you have no control over the slop. Specs (shaft length, overall length, and loadable length) are solid (and comparable to my Eleiko handles), and you've convinced me the build quality is top notch. I see that. But the wasted .50" is a major drawback to me.

I haven’t looked at loadable dumbbells much, but for $500 (plus needing to buy some extra 10-pound weight plates for most people) I can’t see much of a reason to get these over a nice pair of adjustable dumbbells. For $800 you can get a pair of high-quality Nuobells that go from 5-80 pounds very easily and are as comfortable to use as fixed dumbbells.

Pros and cons I think. Nuobells are a lot easier to adjust and pretty compact, downside is you're limited to 80lbs and can't drop them at all.

I think build quality wise it is better, pricing wise if you're looking at getting collars too it's comparable.

@@BasementBrandon Thanks for sharing your thoughts, i am in the process of deciding which one to go for between these, Rogue's and Eleiko's.

@@BasementBrandon Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I've come to the conclusion that there's really no bad choice to be made, whether one decide on either Rogue, Gungnir or Eleiko even - these are all high-end olympic dumbbells and the build quality is very similar. The Gungnir is enticing for that proprietary locking mechanism but then again if you bought the Rogue's adjustable those come with OSO collars which could be used on barbells as well.
When it comes down to it, i say it's a matter of personal preference in the end.

Anyone else think that that handle is too thin or is it only me? I like thicker handles, like 35mm up to like 45mm. Those look like inch wide handles, you'll never really improve your grip with those...

Yeah I think it just depends. If I'm spending that much on DBs you prob are better off buying something like nuobells, trulap, or snodes.

Those handles are completely useless for most people unless you do lots of heavy dumbbell jerk, clean and row, Ironmaster is far better than these.

Why would anyone need these in context? This is for someone who has too much money and nothing better to do with it. Theres better value elsewhere. Thats like buying a spatula made of bloodwood and gold laced to mix your potatoes. Why would you do that?
