Great review, Brandon! These seem ok, but I've yet to see this style of dumbbell that I would personally buy for my home gym. I mean, you're likely to eventually drop them at some point (whether it's within the warranty window or not). Btw, I probably would've made the same mess unboxing these lol.

I'm glad you pointed out how they clank I hate that and my 90lb power blocks do the same. I want good looking, smaller diameter adjustable ones that quickly change weight like these do. What is your ultimate favorites?
TBH I don't really have one for this style of DB, no matter which one you pick their are going to be tradeoffs. If I had to pick between these 3 I'd prob go Nuobell since I tend to baby my equipment anyways.
I'm curious how easy it is to fit these back in the cradle. Every video shows people picking them up and not putting them back but I damaged my Ativafit adjustable dumbbells by putting them back with the cradle. With that said I didn't get a stand for them and it's not easy to align them to cradles sitting on ground.
I agree that it's a little weird for them to not be drop-proof if they go up to 92 pounds. The rattle is a bit annoying, for sure. I don't think the packaging is as much of an issue as you make it out to be. I'm surprised they packaged each dumbbell in it's own box to begin with. My Ironmasters came in many different boxes.
For any adjustable dumbbell I'm always looking at the company website to see if I can purchase the part(s) that is/are likely to fail separately. So far, nearly all of them disappoint - especially the ones that would need it most.

I'm hesitating between Iron Masters (because they're closer to solid, fixed dumbbells) and Trulaps because you can quickly change them into weights, but I have the impression that they take up more space during exercises. I've never been so ripped
Why not open the box, tip it upsidedown, slide the box off, remove everything until the dumbell is just sitting on one piece of foam, before tightening up
The dropping issue seems like a major flaw...id rather them take the time and make them drop resistant at least even if they cost more up front, its still cheaper than a voided warranty and buying a new dumbbell. I like to train to failure so something like a flat bench trying to get back up can be a pain and dropping them 6" to 12" can happen and can be concerning.
I think if you're careful with them (easier said than done in some cases) they should be fine, but I agree. I'd rather buy something that will hold up better.

These are just another low effort Alibaba special where at first one company can buy a few thousands units for 80 dollars a piece and try to make some quick money before there are 20 other “companies” doing the same thing. Fitness companies are getting so lazy and it’s just a race to who can get the slightly different design out to market the fastest with no effort. I’m getting tired of the nonsense weight increments, minimal effort into improving the instruction manuals, and price for such thoughtless products. Even there website is dishonest. They have a materials section and they only list cast iron, aluminum, and stainless steel used for the dumbbells but like you said there is plastic in them… what a shady company IMO.
Fast forward 9 months and Rep Partners up with Pepin crushing the competition with a dumbbell set that you could actually drop with a lifetime warranty. Wonder what's coming from Rogue Fitness in the near future?
Agree on db handles and plates. Having amassed a lot of 10, 5, 2.5 and a few 1.5 standard plates over the decades (some go back to the 70s) three pair of spinlocks and I am good. Make them up in advance for what I will use during the workout. Even have a few 25s for farmers walks and the like. But the economics are not as clear if you are buying new now. Hard to find really cheap standard plates anymore.
$700 for something very heavy that you will use when your muscles are near failure, and you're not allowed to drop them... drop resistance should really be table-stakes for all forms of free weights.
Its a tradoff for trying to hit a price point by sacrificing both engineering and material quality. But the rep x pepin adjustables have figured it out for a pretty comparable price.
Still torn between these, Nuobell and Snodes. If only Snode jumped in 5lb increments. Would you say these are significantly more durable than nuobells? Thanks for content man! Also is your merch seasonal? Last couple times I’ve looked it’s all out of stock.

But there is definitely room for improvement. I may pick up some Average Joe stainless handles for them.
They go heavier + the weight increments are smaller than most other adjustable dumbbells. In Europe they are 1.5kg increments, which admittedly makes more sense than the 3.78 or whatever lbs they label it as in the US.
@@BasementBrandon . Actually no. Just set the bench at a 10’ degree angle. Problem solved and it reduces the strain on your shoulders. @@BasementBrandon interesting, thank you
@@BasementBrandon- Gen 2 was released October 2023. It seems like there is a new option out there that has an improved handle, better cradle, and less rattling.
@ellamennop - Gen 2 was released October 1, 2023 so no, these are likely NOT the Gen 2.
Good review 💪🏾
Thanks 💯
Adjustable dumbells up to 50lbs, and Iron Masters for the big lifts.
Right on
That's exactly the way I do and recommend it.
Trulap instructions writer guy is sweating in his seat after watching this 😅
These do look nice though. The weird number weight jumps would drive me insane 😂 I’m glad you covered how shaky they are out of the cradles. $800 is out of my price range (and I already have a set of adjustables), but still cool to check out.
Appreciate you taking a look!
Did you take the shirt back to the store?
No
Do you have a link for this dumbbells?
Their site is just Trulap.com
Great to see this review with the full set of Rep DBs in the background 😂
I don't think anyone can dethrone a full set of fixed DBs, but most people won't pay the price or give up the real estate for them.
@@BasementBrandon for sure. If I had the space, I’d get a full set. It’s on my bucket list for when I can upgrade my space.
Bought in Europe (Braingain) Great dumbbells.
appreciate the feedback
Do these have a flat area or will they roll when you put them down?
Rounded still, you can see at 9:32
thank you! I have nuobells and Im itching to sell them and get the Trulap because they seem like theyll hold up better long term@@BasementBrandon
if they make a 2.5lbs as the increment it would be so good
I think that would make it so you couldn't go as heavy, or way too unwieldy due to all the jumps needed.
Big thick weights
Hey now!
can they be dropped full weight from 6 feet with no damage?
No DB should be dropped that high.
@@BasementBrandon Well that's stupid then because weights do get dropped from time to time specially in H.I.T. even the best do it.
@@eazystreet5507 maybe from hip height ~3ft, but never overhead. Even strongmen who do circus DB pressing with fixed dbs use drop pads
So do I. I use 2 150s for on incline and a 150 for triceps and some times I run out of gas.
Would you pick these over powerblocks?
I would but I'm not a fan of powerblocks b/c of their shape
Powerblocks will last a lifetime provided you don't drop them on a regular basis. No way these things will. Every design has compromises.
It uses the old mechanism as the OLD Nuobells (the smart flexbells or whatever they were called). Also, that handle is too thick.
Just one of the compromises of this design IMO
Won't get an argument from me there. Very similar to what we saw with NuoBell.
5 pound increments and better knurling and I'm in
Right on
Can I have a link to buy this?
If you just use the company name dot com it brings you there.
When you don’t share the discount code 🙄
I use "basement" for all my codes if you're so inclined.
Got mine for 665 on Black Friday. Win
Nice!
Fast forward 9 months and Rep Partners up with Pepin crushing the competition with a dumbbell set that you could actually drop with a lifetime warranty.
Wonder what's coming from Rogue Fitness in the near future?
I'm hopeful they're able to keep a lot of the build quality with moving production overseas.
What’s the length of the handle?
About 5.5-6”
I’ll stick with my loadable db handles.
Get some rubber coated hex you won’t go back
Right on!
@@Farquad76.547 I hear ya. I’d love them…but I don’t see anyone signing up for my onlyfans account. 🤢
Where can I buy one large nice dumbell. 150lbs, can't find one anywhere! Ridiculous.
Prob on the used market is your best bet.
Video starts at 7:30 , the rest is him pms-ing lol
Context is key my friend 🤪
Does these support Plate Mates?
Have not tried.
Would Fat Gripz fit these?
Had the worst experience dealing Trulaps. Parcels arrived delayed, damaged with incorrect instructions & the company will only offer a $100 refund.
$700 for something very heavy that you will use when your muscles are near failure, and you're not allowed to drop them... drop resistance should really be table-stakes for all forms of free weights.
It's a trade off by having them made easily adjustable
Its a tradoff for trying to hit a price point by sacrificing both engineering and material quality.
But the rep x pepin adjustables have figured it out for a pretty comparable price.
You beat Coop to the punch 🎉
Yeah but he's a better reviewer lol
Still torn between these, Nuobell and Snodes. If only Snode jumped in 5lb increments.
Would you say these are significantly more durable than nuobells?
Thanks for content man! Also is your merch seasonal? Last couple times I’ve looked it’s all out of stock.
The snodes have magnets out now for better jumps. These to me are the same as the nuobell in terms of durability!
@@BasementBrandon ok cool. Thank you
IM are still undefeated
Pepin fs r way too expensive so i don't count those
Just depends. I think for some, the quick adjustments of the pepins may be worth it!
I have Ironmaster, I had Nuobell which I sold. I also have the dumbbells in this video. by far the most universal are the ones from this movie
You spent nearly half of the video talking about the cardboard box packaging and a stand. Wow
Bit of a stretch, but would rather people know what they're getting before they buy it 😇
You got a good product, packaged well. Why all the complaing?
There is hardly any complaining lol.
Those might be purchased right after I press the like button!
My dude, good to hear from you. How are things?
@@BasementBrandon life is good. Focused on higher education and got me some of those degree things. Got married, got fluffy again, just closed on a home and about to build me a home gym and get back into it!
That's awesome man, always wondered what you were up to. Glad to hear things are going so well for you and yours.
@@BasementBrandon appreciate it man. Although I didn’t have access to my account, I still kept up with your videos. Going to put real effort into a dope home gym in the coming weeks
Scale of 1-10 how annoyed were you that they told you you’d be the first to review? Video makes it seem like a 10.
Pretty annoyed. Dishonesty is one of my biggest irks.
Man Trulap is making the rounds. That name though. Sounds like a set right off Amazon 😕 they do look nice though. Also, every drop is accidental 😅
Yeah I'm not a big fan of these mass review/releases but too late now lol
Powerblocks still reign supreme 💪
For me it's Pepins or IM
Pepins are nicer but awfully expensive. Ironmasters will last forever even with abuse but IMO are glorified spin locks. So I still prefer Powerblocks as well for a true quick change set that is still reasonably durable and affordable. My U-90s are over 10 years old and still work like new. But there is definitely room for improvement. I may pick up some Average Joe stainless handles for them.
They dont seem to do anything better than existing adj. dumbbells nor do they do something different. Bummer.
They go heavier, which I think is peoples biggest concern with the nuobells.
They go heavier + the weight increments are smaller than most other adjustable dumbbells. In Europe they are 1.5kg increments, which admittedly makes more sense than the 3.78 or whatever lbs they label it as in the US.
They sure look nice but your review doesn’t leave me desiring them haah
We live in a world of options these days. I just try to point out who these might be for, and who they might annoy :)
Probably a reason he didn't offer his discount code. :-) Doesn't want to "stamp" his name to them, respect over dollars. That my theory anyway.
Snode with plate mates FTW
I have some snodes.
Turn down the discount code. Classy move. 👍🏼
😅
NO WHINE CELLAR represent Crü!
You know it
If you cannot handle the weight to put them back on the rack, and have to drop them, they are too heavy for you.
This is not always the case IMO
No offense, but actually it is. @@BasementBrandon
@@chelious1973 IDisagree, if you're flat pressing 150lbs dumbbells you risk potential injury by not bringing them to the floor first.
@@BasementBrandon . Actually no. Just set the bench at a 10’ degree angle. Problem solved and it reduces the strain on your shoulders. Flat and a 10 degree angle provide the same muscle stimulation without injuring your shoulders.
As a former top NPC competitor who trained with more than a few pros back in the 1990s I regularly pressed with heavy dumbbells without injury. Yes, heavier than the 150s.
Just because you cannot do doesn’t mean others cannot who know what they are doing.
Never had to drop the dumbells unless i was doing drop sets.
@@chelious1973 Incorrect. Just b/c you have the opinion does not make you right. I could make the argument if you have to set the bench at a 10 degree angle, then the weight is too heavy for YOU.
Thicker handles are better for muscle building anyways
I think for people who are serious about strength training I'd agree, I think the issue is however a lot of those people would want different dumbbells.
Powerblocks... open box... youre done, enjoy your workout.
😂
Yeah but then you're stuck with powerblocks lol.
@@BasementBrandon nothing wrong with that. 😁
FMJ REFERENCE!! 😅
Been seeing too many Vincent D'onofrio pics from Comic Con in my news feed for some reason lol
@@BasementBrandon Gomer Pyle one of his greatest roles
They look huge
The heavier you get DBS like this in, the bigger they become.
Dude, 9 minutes in and you haven't even begun reviewing the dumbell yet, still going on about packaging and what not. Who cares about that anyway
People who are interested in buying the dumbbell obviously.
Can you drop them?
Did you watch the video?
You cannot.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks 👍 It's because I'm older now. I just drop the very light dumbbells (lower back).
You can, but only once
@@Hellbull89 Hahaha 🤣
The the moral of this whole story is... you are a shillfluencer.
That would mean I’m trying to get you to buy this. If you think that you didn’t watch the video 😂
@@BasementBrandon LOL... this isnt a fitness equipment channel where you rate them and get free merch for it?
@@psyoperator no sir. this is a channel that covers everything from training, nutrtition, supplements and also equipment. For most of these pieces I try to give pros and cons so people can make a better decision.
Gotta love chinese instructions.
💯
Cost waayyyyyyy too much
I think you have to remember that buying a full set of dbs is always more pricey and takes up more space. You could get loadable dbs for less, but a lot of people don't want to have to deal with loading/unloading.
@@BasementBrandon u dont need a full set of dumbells. At most u need 4 maybe 5, i think 3 is good enough.
you need to price standard dumbbells then come back here and let us know whats too expensive
@@thebodybeatdownDiTi whatchu mean?
@@Joji_14you do you bro. If you think 3 sets of dumbells is enough, I don't know what to tell ya. Guessing you don't ever see any strength gains over time, or do many exercises with them. You can do hundreds of different exercises with dumbells, and to say that you feel that just 3 different weight sets is all you need is a bit silly. But if you are just looking to maintain fir a few muscle groups, it can work I guess.
