That is hilarious. Given a lot of the UA-cam advice in general, I learned to love my daily goals (even though I haven't written in a while now), which fits with this advice, I think.
I realize I'm replying to a 3 year old comment, but I feel compelled to bc my best advice is what Margaret Weiss told me when I wrote to her as kid. "Read, read, read. Write, write, write."
The best advice I've ever received about success was... NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER! Followed by, "If you can't stand being bad, then you'll never write anything good." I'm super interested in your course!
This is the first writing course that I have bought. I've discovered that I can work like a dog for others, but struggle to do the same for myself. I think I need the structure that working for some else forces on you. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. See you at the other end!
This is top notch advice. I see this over and over again. People talk and talk and talk about ideas but don’t put them to paper. They don’t realize trying to organize 100,000 of those thoughts is what will make a novel...just write the thought down...you can always fix it with editing...
So good Chris! Thanks for your continual writing coaching and mentorship through all your books and videos, and content!!! Can't wait for my own hard copy of "Shattered God's" btw! Been going through your writing books and they are so helpful as well as I am learning how to "Write to Market" in Fantasy niche and figuring that out. Love that you are doing this course deff want the info on that! Thanks Chris!!
I appreciate your honesty and transparency. It's the main reason I subscribed to your channel. This advice is one bit that I was doing for a while then it started slipping. Thanks for the reminder.
Kicking my butt in the pants and getting my goals and habits freshly going daily again Chris! Got my spreedsheet tracker up for 2024 now, I'm I started novel 1 writing over and i'm already over 5000k words in this month with some plotting outlining done.. and going through the course here again to help me kick and jumpstart the year to write the dang book! It's time to finally finish a novel I start. I will finish what I started! I will finish what I start! I will hit my 2024 goals! In 12 months at the End of 2024 no more excuses holdups, set backs I'm achieving my goals in 2024 of becoming a published author! I will write, edit, and publish the 3 first novels this year aiming for completed the word count of my first rough draft by the end of the first quarter 2024! My goal is to achieve daily writing sprints to hit a 4200 avg. word count per day. I will just write the book! No more confusion, delays, questioning, doubt, I will set the goal and write the dang book! In 2024 I will finally after years become a published fantasy author making some kind of starting point income from it! I got this Chris! Thank you!
@@alpturan7897 I took it down as I didn't feel like it was providing enough value. I have a really hard time taking money from authors. I prefer readers lol.

I agree. It's like exercise. The more weight you lift, the more weight you can lift. The more you run, the more you can run. The more you write, the more you can write (and the quality inevitably improves).

I hate how right you are. It's my first book and I have a lot of threads but I'm trying to stay consistent. But then again. I WON'T KNOW HOW CONSISTENT I AM UNLESS I WRITE IT! XDD
This is a great way to overcome self-doubt and imposter syndrome too, particularly if you deal with bad depression. I've only ever been able to write anything when I've succeeded at shutting down that part of my brain. So even if it's not ego, even if it's the opposite, and you're not able to write because your brain is constantly telling you that you're worthless, no one will like your writing, that you're not a real author, and all of the other self-hating a depressed brain does, it still manages to be probably the best writing advice you could give. Put the words down on paper the same way you put on your shoes every day. Stop making it a thing, and just do it without thinking. Schedules help. If you're writing for an hour at 6AM every day, whether it's good or bad isn't part of the equation.

Hi Chris. I was just looking at your 5k course and some of the topics sound like past videos you've posted on your channel. Could you give an idea of the extra content in the course for hitting 5k?
The modules are pretty straight forward, and many of them appear in text form in 5,000 Words Per Hour or Life-Long Writing Habit. There are no special secrets (beyond a much better explanation of many topics), or new tricks locked behind an exclusive paywall. The course is 30 days of simple assignments, and if you're completing them you'll have a rock solid writing habit by the end. The real value is in the system as a whole, taken across the entire month. And as with any course all the information is out there free somewhere. I will never hard sell it, or anything like it I make, because any writer can achieve their desired level of success without paying for the knowledge. =)
@@chrisf9143 Always! The real benefit will be helping to cement a writing habit, and in optimizing daily word counts within that habit. Everything it draws upon to do that will be familiar to people who've followed the channel for years, and for people who've mastered those principles I'd save your capital, unless you need a motivational boost.
The best writing advice I ever got came form Tracy Hickman. He told me that it takes ten years to become an overnight success.
I wish someone had told me this in high school. Should be right up there with that Ira Glass quote.

I need to prioritize that. It's been slipping through the cracks, and that's money I'm leaving on the table.
Ironic the advice came from a dude who’d been revising the same story for 100 years.
