Just paddled out there for my 2nd trip with my first kayak it was alot of work and tide was to high couldn't find the kelp did manage to get a 13in sand bass but that was it hope to see you out there one of these days!

Yes I bet! Paddling from DP harbor to the Strand is pretty far. Hopefully you’ll find the kelp floating next time.
Pick a time when it’s either low tide, incoming or mid to outgoing. Even then if the current is moving fast the kelp maybe submerged.
You also many want to consider doing a beach launch from Salt Creek depending on the surf conditions, though it’s pay to park there.
Good luck and thanks for your support!

Nice! Beautiful Goat. Love those calm mornings too. A calm sunset is even better

Gorgeous Sheepshead! Great eating, too! That return trip between the Rock and the Reef is one I'll try to avoid, though. I guess I'll just play it safe. Hope you're doing well.

Thanks Mike! I’m slowly building my endurance back up and feeling really well. I usually go around the boiler rock, but this time I just saw how the swells were rolling in and I just went for it!

Cool video Glenn. How thick are the kelps? It's nice to see the kelps are really thick in PV this year.

Thanks Quang. The kelp is looking good, nice and thick when it’s up at the surface. Hope we could plan a trip to PV soon and see what the kelp is holding.

I've only ever fished the small kelp right off the campground on the other side of the surf, used a double drop shot with the little gulp 3" swim mullets, caught a 12" sculpin one time. What rig and bait do you recommend for that kind of fishing?

You could also switch up colors like green, chartreuse, and white. I caught them using flukes/jerkshads in Rootbeer or newpwnny color. Just use a small enough weight to hold he bottom. The less weight the better.
Fish between 8-12’ of water. Hopefully you’ll find a sweet spot.

Hello sir. When are you going back out there? I'd like to join you. I've watched your vids for a whiles now.

Hello and thanks for watching and commenting. It’s hard to tell as all my trips depend on the conditions for the day I go fishing.
If you’re looking to link up with some
Avid kayak anglers I recommend checking a few FB groups such as FreshnSalty or California Harbor Fishing. The members are about fishing all the time.

@@SouthwestKayakFishing You went to Morrow Bay recently. I was there that same day but we didn't cross path. I was at the Stacked Rocks area too. Perhaps one day I will run into you at Dana Point. Be well.
