- The new 2018 BMW X3 M40i might be the new perfect winter whip. From carrying all of my camera equipment and snowboard gear, it checks every box that I'm looking for in a roomier vehicle. Helps that it has a 355 HP twin turbo I6 and gets from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds!

This car doesn't have double clutch transmission, it has a tourque conventer 8-speed auto. The Bmw's have a system called 'DTC' not 'DCT' which stands for Dynamic Traction Control, which tones down the stability control (DSC) and let you have some fun through the corners.
It doesn't have a DCT. It's the ZF8.
Get your facts straight before a review bro.

Amen on a true fuel powered sports car/suv! Techie here too and I admire what Tesla's been doin, but nothing beats true Bavarian Motorsports! =P oh and the guys from Stuttgart too are pretty awesome as well lol.

It's not a Dual Clutch DCT , it's a ZF 8 speed Automatic . DCT-s are for ///M Series :p (not all of them have DCT) .
He call it a bimmer. So give him two cool point for that

the new M5 AWD has ZF8 transmission too. DCT is old school now and can't handle torque
Stopped and did the same. Good first attempt but get all the car facts right and you will get car buffs paying more attention. Non-car enthusiasts won't give a damn.

First off, this is absolutely a beautiful SUV! It still amazes me how much technology they can fit in it. For your first official car review, you did pretty well. It also helped that the car was my favorite color too! Great cinematics in the video!

The dealer tells me its not a "twin turbo" or bi-turbo. Rather it is a twin-vane turbo. One turbo; two vanes inside, each with different pitches designed to spool-up quickly at low RPM and, pump a large volume of air at higher RPM.
You did great for your first official review. Kick it into sport plus and you got the X3 M40i backfiring super loud.

Great to see TO in the vid (I've spent my share of hours on that DVP). I just moved from Brampton to LA and, this morning, bought a CX5, sort of a very poor man's X3. Nice Vid, congrats.
I'm an Audi fan but this X3 (& X1) is my favourite in the segment.
The 2012 X3 35i comes in MSport w paddle shifters and the 300hp twin turbo 6. It’s a rocket as well.

Hey Carl, good review but ongoing issue, you have not mentioned the non-M steering wheel. Does it also mean non-M steering rack? Rumours point to M steering wheels being backordered on the production line. However, no way that wheel comes closer to the M steering feel if non coupled with the ZF rack. Even then...

One thing I found on another review "The M Performance Exhaust system is another winner in the X3 M40i, with a deep, growling sound. Engineers told us that the engine was tuned to misfire one cylinder to make the proper growling sound". Do they really create a misfire just to make that uneven growl when the throttle is lifted?

I’m pretty sure it’s not a DCT, the SAVs have torque converter automatics as this is better for towing and off roading or just hauling cargo.seconds is Max Plaid.
Ive driven this exact car, my aunt and uncle have one...I got to rent it for 2 days and it was the best driving experience ever...the sound...ugh.

Actually GM and Nissan were some of the first to introduce a HUD. BMW implemented theirs in 2004

Good video Karl. Apparently there is a lot more tech in the X3. It is a semi-autonomous vehicle. It can keep you in your lane and even make lane changes for you. No comments on your driving, but since this is a press car, it will / has been driven by a lot of other journalists. Can you publish the last few digits of the VIN? Apparently some manufacturers sell the press cars on to dealers who then sell to the public as "executive cars".
Not sure that I would like to buy a car that starred on Top Gear lol
I looked into this vehicle as the engine, performance and interior are sweet but I have two large dogs and there wasn't enough space in the back so I purchased an X5 diesel instead. Love the diesel, averaging 27mpg with mixed driving and the vehicle is refined and lovely to spend time in.

The X3 M40i isn't a DCT at all, in fact it's a 8 Speed Sport Automatic Transmission. The car has Driving Dynamics Such as Sport, Sport + (Individual), Comfort, and Eco-Pro, the car comes with stock M Sport Suspension or Adaptive M Suspension, ECU is M-Tuned, and standard M Sport Brake Caliper Covers 4 Piston in the front and 2 in the back. Just because it has an M, doesn't mean it's a true M Car like the X5M or X6M. There's a M550i and X3 M40i these vehicles are M-Tuned, from the steering, throttle mapping/exhaust, and steering, however it's actually Driving Dynamics and doesn't give you the Comfort, Sport, Sport + like a true M car and also no Dual Clutch Transmission with (Sequential) S1, S2, S3, or (Dynamic) D1, D2, D3. The DCT will change how fast the gear changes. If you look at BimmerPost you will find an article that shows BMW NA will build a X3 M, basically a M3 or M4 engine at 406 HP and 425 LB-TQ. Word of advice; 1.) Keep your video short and only about the title, not veer of and talk about Tesla (you're talking about a BMW), talk about Tesla in another video, and also talk about your ambition, motivation in another video. Why? By keeping it simple your viewers will appreciate that you're talking only what's relevant (not to say that what you did is bad, just words of encouragement).Great video editing and music and knowledge of the car though. Cheers.

It does not have a DCT transmission. Its still the ZF 8 speed Automatic. (the best in the business btw)
oldsmobile had the first HUD in a car... IN 1988! and if you are talking about in suv the SAAB 9-7 had it in 2011...

I subbed to you a few days ago for the Tech videos and now this pops up. Even better because I'm into cars and with all the technology they have built in, it suits a channel like yours. But the HUD isn't that special, I got that in my BMW from 2011 also, and it's as big as yours.

the "M" part of this car is almost completely cosmetic, only a 20 hp over the normal b58 engine, sadly its not really a true M car
