Distress Oxide and Distress Ink are not waterproof, even when dry. So any drop of liquid will cause the ink to move and leave spots. For waterproof ink use Archival, Stazon or Versa Fine..
They gold or silver gilding is not water proof either... so I didn't care if it was or not. Tomorrow I'm going to the craft store to see what all they have there. I'll check out the archival and others you have shared. But...but if they don't have them in the colors I want I'll stick with these from Tim Holtz. I never let my bibles around food or drinks.
Something my cat's will jump up onto my desk after drinking form their water bowls that has left little dots too. 😏 not a fan but it's a memory I have of them & that moment. Thank you for sharing I forgot to mention it in this video. But I wasn't trying to teach you all how I to do it I was only sharing what I did. 😃🤭this is why I appreciate when others share what they have learned too. This is sure a wonderful community we have here on UA-cam 💜✝️💜
That Schuyler!!! OHHHHH my my!!!! Now you have to learn and show us to change the ribbons :) Yes, I agree - I think that it's important to have a great gilding to start with.
I did this to my travel Bible. I love it. I choose green color 💚💚💚
Hi Cat, I love the purple! I'm going to get some and do a couple of my bibles, for sure. Now, if you can colour your pages this well I am sure you can change your ribbons. I have just done a video on it, step by step, in photos I took while I changed three in my Allan's Brevier Clarendon, if you're interested. I've changed ribbons in three bibles so far and I love them, because what was in them was pretty bad, (you know, short and scrawny) even in high end bibles.
Hi Cat! What a great idea!!! I don’t have the oxides but I do have the regular distress ink pads and several archival (waterproof) ones......... hmmmmm, now you have me thinking!!!
I successfully changed out the ribbon in one of my bibles. The one it had was scimpy, narrow, and one side only satin. The ribbons I chose were 3/8” and double sided. If you can’t find purple ones locally, check online. I got mine on ebay. Anyway, there are many ‘how-to’ videos here on UA-cam. I suggest watching all of them! ; )
Thanks for sharing!
Ooooh, Cat!! These are so gorgeous! I had no idea that this was even a thing you could do to your Bible! Thank you for sharing, you always give us such great videos! 👍🙂💜
Meline
Now all your Bibles can have your favorite color on it. 😍
Absolutely Gorgeous. I may have to try this. Thanks for sharing.
Awwww so beautiful love it thank you for sharing blessings 🛡🙌🏾❤️
Beautiful cat. I'm cat lover. The color on pages of the bible it's a fenome. Have a good day.
Violet is my daughter name. Thanks for your videos
This is awesome!!! Thank you for sharing and showing us how you did this. God bless you sis!! 😘❤️🙏
Oh thank you, I did it with one of my 'cheap' Bibles, looks nice, but where the gilding is so varied, the ink is also, still looks nice and I will definitely do it again :)
Oh My stars....I love the purple! Yes! I do ..... I would have purple everywhere and on everything!! LOL
What What What Wow 😲
Wow 😯 cat, those look amazing 😉. Great idea, I might try it. Thanks
This is cool!!
Wow this is creative!
Wow...that's great sis! The Cambridge looks even more amazing with the purple! Great job! My second rebind which is being done right now will have purple art gild too :)
Great job! Thanks for sharing this video with us
That’s awesome. Keep the videos coming!!
I got some purple ink for my purple bibles and it looks great! Thanks for sharing, I had no idea you could do this to your bible
Wow love this. I want do all my books, including my Bibles. And purple is my favorite color.
The ribbons can be dyed, if you really don't like them. Try a bit of the ink on the ends, you could probably lighten the ink if you don't like it.
Tfs
WoW Sister; very nice job 👍🏾
I'm always nervous; doing it 😬 myself.
Logan says.."no mama!!" Lol
Those are so pretty!
Awesome, looks great
So pretty!
They look so amazing! I wonder if u could just dye the ribbons? They would look amazing also I think in differnt colors like 🌈 effect blended into each other.sooo darn cute. Great work cat! ❤u sis 💖
You did a amazing job ❤
Hi Cat, your bible look beautiful.
Beautiful.
Wow I’m obsessed with that Schuyler ❤️... had to google how to fix my guilding just got a new slate niv quentel SOMEHOW it got two little drop of water on guilding and I need to fix it .. driving me insane
Miss Cat let me ask you a question. If I buy myself a Bible is it wrong to present it to myself. What’s your opinion? You really inspired me with your videos keep up the great work and God bless you young lady
Not at all... this question I have been asked all the time. I will make a video sharing what I do and my opinion on this matter. Plus show you what you can do with your own bible/a great question thank you so much for asking and watching. ✍📖📚
👍❤️
That's pretty cool.
Great job
Hi I wanted to give an update I received the ink and I was able to fix the 2 water spots on my guilding . It actually looks Sooooo much more prettier than before it’s brighter and has an ombré effect ( what I picked up from your other video ) it is gorgeous and couldn’t be happier !!!
So did it have gold or silver? And you could fix part too that or just the color underneath it of the art gilt? I haven't tried it yet I only have one Bible with a little water spot but I don't have the right color blue ink yet!
@@catwoods5499 it was the color underneath the guilding sorry , I didn’t describe it correctly . I have silver guilding (red under silver ) with the Slate NIV quentel . The red is really bright now instead of like a faint pink and I decided to give it the ombré effect . I didn’t think it was possible to be more obsessed with my Bible but I am in love . Like you I have many Bibles / versions but this is “the one “ .. the two water spots were faint but it bothered me being I had the Bible less than a week ! Lol .. I do want to get a purple psq now for travel . I have a slate esv psq .. But I love what you did with that purple psq ! Wowzers
So when u added the red ink to cover up the water spots do you see the spot at all? I had a few little spots on my TN single Column Reference Bible but I can still kinda see it when I have it close and a bit more whenever it's open. So if you learned something new.... please.... do help me out. I hate these little mark too. My eyes are always drawn to it
@@catwoods5499 you can see it a liiiiitle bit but you would have to try to see it . My eyes were drawn more to the disparity between the light pink and almost white water Mark it created vs the dark pink and red contrast .. I hope that makes sense lololol !!! And I just realized I’m really talking to another Bible geek and it’s refreshing . We really
Do have our own world lololol !!
I know exactly what mean. Whenever I get a chance to talk about Bibles I'm totally jumping at that opportunity 🤣 I 100% agree with you the spot is less noticeable when you add a darker color. You have to really pay attention or know where it's at. And I gotta ask you what color ombre did you do. I am on the hunt for a purple archival ink so I can do a purple and pink ombre look as you know I have the red and black which don't get me wrong I absolutely love. But you know I'm Cat and I gotta have my bright color too 😻
I want this purple bible 😭 6:55....how can i??
Thanks for the helpful review! Hey does that foam thingee come with the dye? If not, where did you purchase it?
Just be careful, because the distress line is water-reactive! Distress is just the name of the line. You can do a lot of fun things with those inks. And I never would have thought to use distress inks like this. Though I wonder if the regular distress ink can be used instead of the oxide line. Thank you for the quick demonstration. :)
Please check out my new video
@@catwoods5499 I just finished watching it. I have a weird thing about watching videos in order in my subscription box. 😅
🥰🤭 thank you for watching all my videos sis your support never goes unnoticed here 😇💜✝️💜
Hi Cat .. Im trying to change the color of an allan bible.. I want to take off the Red edge and put on a Green edge.. taking off the red edge is got me stumped ..what can i use besides a clamp some small cutting boards and some kind of light sand paper.. would you ever attempt this ? !!! The Brave one ... Oh im going to practice on a cheap bible first .. any advice ,,you can give??
I had a purple PSQ with blue Art Gilt and I didn't remove it when I just added the purple color right on top of it. Just add the green on top. I'm sure it's going to have be a bit of a darker green and not like a lime or grass color green.
Thanks for the info! Have you ever tried dying goffered edges? I'm curious how it turns out. I'm considering getting blue on my Maclaren but I'm not sure if it would take differently since some of the edge is not gilded. Thanks again!
I've done my Maclaren in two different colors if you want to check it check out my IG
@@catwoods5499 Thanks!
Ok Cat I have a question. (And I will learn the answer soon because I am going to try it) I bought some red gold archival ink it hopes it might cover some scratches. Is there any chance that will work?
Nope unfortunately it won't I wish it did. You can always have it regilded. I recommend this website. But this is the only way to get those scratches out. I haven't tried it myself yet but I can't wait too bookgilding.com/
Would you be able to multiple colors, say for example Old Testament one color and New Testament another?
I'm not sure never tried I think it's possible
@@catwoods5499 I'll have to try it on a economy bible before I try on a high end one, thanks for the quick response 🙏🏻
Cat, I have a Bible that the gilded edges of gold is very spotty. What can I do to restore them again?
There is a company that can touch up the gold or silver gilding bookgilding.com/
Can it be applied to a Bible that is already worn and has slightly uneven pages?
It will be difficult but yes
I just done my mini Holman Bible in pink but used the distress ink not oxide I love it but I think it will need another coat or two but it's took most of the gliting away have I done it wrong or does it depend on the bibles you use ?
Did you swipe one directions only. There are YT videos I watched too at the beginning that suggested this didn't matter but it definitely does. Because you will literally remove the gilding especially if it's on a cheaper Bible
@@catwoods5499 I watched your videos and tried to do what you do I like the look tho but I do want to do my huge inspire galaxy tho bit scared now as don't want to ruin it any advice you could give should I get the oxide version of ink instead
I live with a panther too :) They're sweet awesome kitties. Question: was the ink pad itself like a hard block or was it a pad that was soaked with ink?
It's a hard block you have to press a few times before the ink will show
Thank you, I have Archival Ink and their ink blocks are similar
Any idea how to remove it? I have a Schuyler that's pink and I hate it!
What color do you want it? If it's a darker color you don't have to take it off. You only have to add it on top. The best way I've noticed how to remove gilding is listen to some other videos when applying it 🤣 they say it doesn't matter how you add the ink to the pages. Well that's a lie you go against it and it will cause the art Gilt to start stringing off 😮 but...but I've learned after the 4th Bible and 3 journal what works best
@@catwoods5499 that's a good idea. I think my only option would be to go with dark red. Could you recommend a good place to get what I need to do it?
That's not your only option you go blue black orange red yes... I don't remember what color your Bible was. I purchased my inks from Amazon and the sponges from Walmart
Can you stain those ribbons so they're purple?
I'm sure you could if you knew how to. I don't so I'm stuck 😔
What is the name of this Bible
Schuyler quentel (PSQ)
Does it stain the fingers after drying?
No it washed off easy when it's dried no ink at all. As long as you removed all the excess from the bible first
You hate blue colour? 😆
On this bible it drove me bananas I always said the same thing whyyyy would they do this😂 now I'm like yes I love it now. It wasn't easy at first
