@@kronemerjThe Blackhawks were actually one of the biggest names in comics from the 40's to the 60's, ranking along with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel and Captain America in popularity. The team was composed of a single member from each country that was attacked by the Axis in WWII: Blackhawk himself was Polish, and other members from French, Dutch, American, Swedish and Chinese. The series continued past WWII and was bought by DC in 1956, who continued to publish them until 1968. The series declined 1967 when DC attempted to reboot them from being Robin Hood style pilot adventurers to being generic superheroes. That obviously didn't go well and killed the series within a year. DC revived them again the late 70's, but that only lasted for a handful of issues, and ended with multiple members dead or turned into villains. Then, in the early-mid 80's, Spielberg and (I think) George Lucas approached DC about making a Blackhawk film in the style of Star Wars and Indiana Jones. That should tell you just how big of a name Blackhawk was. DC promptly revived the series as a reboot set during WWII and written by Mark Evanier, who was Jack Kirby's apprentice. That series is actually one of my favorite of all time by DC, and to me got everything about the team perfect. Unfortunately, the film fell into development hell, so DC just axed the series on a cliffhanger. The team was revived again Post-Crisis, once again in a WWII set reboot, but also didn't last. Since they just get continuity nods, and in the New 52 were rebooted as mercenaries and associated with Hawkman. Other fun trivia points with them include the fact that their battle cry was indeed "Hawkaaa!," and they had a full on theme song that was published along with musical notes and lyrics for their readers to play and sing. Aside from Nazis, they also fought supervillains like their archenemy Killer Shark, King Condor, Mr. Freeze (not that one), the Jailer, the Mole, the Bio-Lord, the Men from G.E.O.R.G.E. and others. The series was also somewhat controversial for diving heavily into femme fatale characters and sexy (though not sexualized or scantily clad) female characters who were just as tough as the men. Gotta love a good DC Challenge, it gives so many characters, even obscure ones, time to shine and is so insane that it's fun. And it looks like we are not done with insane stories as we head into US 1, which I'm also excited for. Given how little time we have left until October I assumed we were only doing a DC Challenge, but were also getting US 1 too another recurring series on this channel, even if we don't get a Batman Odeyss this year, these two will be more than enough.
I’m just gonna say it, I kind of hope and wish someday linkara reviews Watchmen. If for anything what it did to comics/superheroes and how someone who likes superheroes as much as he does what he thinks about the series that for all intents and purposes did just that. (For the most part that is)
You know. I still think the Uncle Sam whom Prometheus was hearing the voice of in Battle For Bludhaven. Is the version that died during Infinite Crisis.
Yes, because he's actually a recolor of the Martian Manhunter. Long story short - a creator wanted to bring back the Martian Manhunter after a long absence, learned they were already doing it, so just retooled his story into J'Emm - Son of Saturn.
Burning the flag? Yeah, about that: according to the US Flag Code, when your flag is looking old and tatty, you're supposed to dispose of it respectfully. By burning it.

Ah, I see. TBF, not too familiar with DC cosmic stuff, so the fact that he's right next to J'onn and has a disco collar and a laser beam in in his forehead confused me just a smidge.
I had wondered what happened to the Peter Cannon Thunderbolt rights, since in every iteration of Earth 4 since 52 (which all exist as references to Watchmen), the Ozymandias counterpart is depicted as Judomaster.
A comet passed over him as a child and he gained Superpowers... that sounds very familiar to another character that would've only just been created around the time period. Isn't that how... SUPERBOY PRIME got his power? ... Ok, I am pretty sure it had nothing to do with it. But I think the timing of him gaining powers and the passing of a comet happened at the same time. I don't really have a joke about this. I just wanted to comment.
With time I've come to like this series more now that I see it as an almost Silver Age style chance to revisit thebpre-Crises universe. And as for US-1, wow. sad times, last issue. I just hope that She-Hulk returns long enough to give finally a US Archer live action appearance. And not out of the question since she seems so Byrne-esque.

I can ignore the thunderbolt shenanigans and such because all I could think during this episode is ... man, Captain comet really needs to wear his underwear UNDER his super suit 😂
(For the most part that is)
Dumb + Awesome = Dawsome!
Oh crap! I totally forgot that Uncle Sam is a DC character! 😆
You know. I still think the Uncle Sam whom Prometheus was hearing the voice of in Battle For Bludhaven. Is the version that died during Infinite Crisis.
I'm just picturing Mark Twain as Captain Comet
I’ve read ahead and vigilante( aka Adrain chase yes the one in peacemaker) appears in a later issue i don’t remember which issue
17:57 This is where logic goes to die.
... So long, Space Trucker...
23:30 I think that is actually supposed to represent the Blackhawsk' famous war-cry, "Hawwkaaaa!" rather than a noise made by the planes themselves.
1:30 Makes you feel special, doesn't it.
7:09 so are we going to gloss over the fact that this guy seems like a very obvious recolor of Vision?
Yes, because he's actually a recolor of the Martian Manhunter. Long story short - a creator wanted to bring back the Martian Manhunter after a long absence, learned they were already doing it, so just retooled his story into J'Emm - Son of Saturn.
15:53 Peter Cannon Thunderbolt, you have the power to overcome great fear. Welcome to The Green Lantern Core!
All I can figure out about this plot...is Chaos, just pure Chaos.
Burning the flag?
Yeah, about that: according to the US Flag Code, when your flag is looking old and tatty, you're supposed to dispose of it respectfully.
By burning it.
Funny enough, I actually have a copy of this issue. Picked it up at a convention a year or so ago. Good times.
4:40-4:44 Was that an Across the Spider-Verse reference, or an Everything Everywhere All at Once reference?
Everything Everywhere.
Ah, yes, Gem, who is totally not Vision, nothing like Vision, nosiree, not a single resemblance to Vision, I do so love how not-at-all-like-Vision Gem is, SHUT UP HE'S TOTALLY ORIGINAL OC DO NOT STEAL
Jemm is alien from Saturn who is more of an expy for J’onn.
Ah, I see. TBF, not too familiar with DC cosmic stuff, so the fact that he's right next to J'onn and has a disco collar and a laser beam in in his forehead confused me just a smidge.
I’m definitely going back to catch up on this series.
7:18 Proving that Jemm is truly outrageous. Truly, truly truly outrageous. 😅
I had wondered what happened to the Peter Cannon Thunderbolt rights, since in every iteration of Earth 4 since 52 (which all exist as references to Watchmen), the Ozymandias counterpart is depicted as Judomaster.
Wait... Daredevil is now public domain?
The Golden Age non-Marvel one, yeah.
Maybe the Comet secretly had the Omnitrix inside it, but decided this guy REALLY shouldn't have it and just gave him random DNA instead.
With time I've come to like this series more now that I see it as an almost Silver Age style chance to revisit thebpre-Crises universe. And as for US-1, wow. sad times, last issue. I just hope that She-Hulk returns long enough to give finally a US Archer live action appearance. And not out of the question since she seems so Byrne-esque.
about the clark kent is superman cliff hanger getting resolved so easy it does make sense to just get rid of it
this is a fast paced book about moving frtom one crazy th ing to another
that kind of cliff hanger works better for a more slow paced book
Wonder how many of these characters could just be rebooted back into the comics.
