I worked with a guy who bent the crank on his mower, he kept going though just to get it done. After mowing he looked at his wrist watch and both hands were just sliding around on the face under the crystal! The vibration broke them off LOL. Thanks! another great video!
This reminded me of when I was little mowing my grandfathers yard in Florida. I went off the curb and bent the crankshaft. Thing is I really miss that time it’s such a distant memory now it feels like another lifetime. Hard to put myself there and believe it was our life. Miss him.
In 1973 I worked in a small engine shop and we had a simple crankshaft stratener that worked very well without disasembeling the moter and without harming the seal.
@@M.TTT. No, those are still made, like Stens 751-032 and Rotary 1709 I don't recommend trying to fix a crankshaft or any other shaft that has a blade on it, but there are many machines were a crankshaft can be fixed safely. Pressure washer pumps that are mounted directly to the engine shaft can do funny things when they seize. On karts and other chain driven machines you can bend the crankshaft if something gets caught between the chain and pinion/sprocket or if you tighten a hot chain without leaving enough slack, because as the steel cools it will shorten creating a *massive* pull force. That happens with chainsaw chains too.
Watching your videos makes me want to start my own small engine repair business. My dad had an old gas powered hedge trimmer that stopped turning over and i took it apart and fixed it for him. The flywheel key sheared, so it was a simple repair
I've had 3 of these 190cc L head engines in the last few years and they've all failed with light duty. The oil would thin out and would be silver in color after three or four mows. Eventually they'd let the smoke out in the middle of a mow and that would be it. Nice to see one being serviced that doesn't have silver oil!
I have two mowers in my current fleet with this particular engine, and I am a huge fan of them. They are extremely durable and easy to work on, and parts are readily available. They are one of my favorite engines.
Ive been going threw the back log of all your videos as i do enjoy them i love sseing all these riding mowers and push mowers i have never heard of or seen before as i know machines look different in the United Kingdom vs Canada

First time I have watched a video on your second channel, I have to say, you sound so much more sure of yourself, relaxed and comfortable compared to the FS videos of late. It's obvious you enjoy this!
Have a neighbor that had a blue Kolbalt battery operated push mower. He is always running over stuff in his yard. One day he ran over something pretty big and all I heard was a crunch and silence. I looked over and he had the blade with half the shaft attached to it in his hand. The next day the mower was out front by the curb.
Usually with a bent crank, I just bend it with a long steel pipe back into true, or I give it a few heavy blows with a hammer. Either it's improved or I have something to keep myself busy.
grouse work mate she looks and sounds better after replacing the crankshaft for sure and those parts brand new depending on where you are in the world are not cheap and that,s for sure and yep in my time i have seen people over here where i live mow over solid items and then they wonder why it,s vibrating on the engine crankshaft excessively too but yeah straightening it is a optional technique but yeah sometimes replacing it makes all the difference i reckon and cheers from Australia 🐨🐑🦘🌴🇦🇺 or the land down under to your area and yep our Victa P/T (Power Torque) lot we have often have then too etc.
I have never looked for an NGK plug for this engine. I always keep a pile of 5861s or RJ19LMs around, but I definitely prefer NGK. I will have to start using them now.
@@gregorymalchuk272 no, i wish tho, i wish they made good engines again without stupid stuff like plastic crankshafts, or pressed on camgears n camlobes.
@MachineryRestorer Wow, that's not too bad considering a new one costs around $2500 or more. It's a shame shipping from the USA to the UK isn't cheaper. Otherwise, you'd have a limitless source of free old mowers, haha.
I once broke this cutting propeller by hitting some big stone in grass, but to bend whole crankshaft, that had to be something far more bigger and harder ,I suppose..
I'm not sure how people hit so many posts and metal poles, but it happens, and the crank usually takes it. I actually can't stand self-propelled because power is diverted from the blade.
Interesting that the crankshaft bent before the plate that holds the blade broke... i thought it was supposed to be a sacraficial part. I have an early 90s Hayter that has a friction disk instead... seems like a better idea. I'm surprised its not used by others.
Great stuff, did the new crank you had fit other B&S engines as well or did it just happen to be an exact replacement for that particular engine? Love your videos you do a great job. JeffinMaine
i hit a little chuck of a branch only a few inches but it snapped my blade in 2. i dont think ive had any other damage, when i replaced blade i think the vibration was the same as it was before. I use my dads mower on our plot of land about 1/3rd of an acre i think. only problem with it is its lost its drive, not sure whats happened with it. there is resistance when lever is pulled but no drive... think its an Allister from B&Q, not one ive ever used before. i am reluctant to take it to bits but a part of me feels its something simple like a stretched drive belt...
Hey, what is that part # for that air filter? Currently restoring a mower with the same motor and air box. Can only find the air filter on websites that want insanely high prices for it! Thank you
That crankshaft has scoliosis, polio and osteoporosis all in one.... that was some post he hit 😮 he's lucky the bottom bearing sleeve wasn't ovalled out from the wibbly wobbly shaft and hand numbing vibrations
Not really, you can get a crank for £20 and gasket for £5. You don’t need to replace all the seals as that’s over kill. Time to replace a crank is 30mins tops.
@@kenrolle2338 Same here. That is why my newest lawn mower is 25 years old. I also have a 45 year old John Deere lawn mower and the John Deere runs like a top. If I could I'd go and find another John Deere thats 40 plus years old. They don't make them like they used to.

Quite a few Viking/Stihl mowers about in the U.K.
Since 2009 Wolf Gartengeräte is part of the american MTD group so they probably try to sell them in other than only the german market.

What does the yellow flap on the grass box indicate?
It's for airflow, if it wasn't there the pressure would blow the collector off or apart
It shows that air flows through the bag. When the flap stays closed the bag is full or the gras tunnel is jammed.
