Hi, This is Dave Bush. I'm flying a 14ft Thor's Hammer in 20mph winds. Thank's for posting the video. I'll be in Milwaukee again Memorial weekend 2007. Hope to see you there. Dave Kalamazoo, MI
I loved this video...It shows how tough it is to really fly...I flew one yesterday..with a seventy year old woman...who has severe arthritis..bad hips...and me?? Two years ago I was in a coma...Kite flying to me is symbolic of the human spirit...If we lay down...we stop...if we keep trying..we fly...I aim to fly..haha...great video...I want to learn to do this really well..not just fooling around in the backyard
I forgot how much fun kites are, the thrill of having your kite nose dive into the ground then you masterfully pull the string to save it is so much fun.
I can appreciate this video- especially the first guy. He was flying a "Thor's Hammer" - a 4 metre monster kite that pulls like a truck. Absolutely amazing. I guess I can confer with some comments about seeing too much of the other fliers- maybe a bit more kite footage would have been nice. But it was worth it to see Thor going so fast. Usually big sports kites don't move that fast!
Great vid! Spectators all watch the kite and never realize how complex and how physical it can be to stay in control. That first kite is a HUGE 13.5ft span Thor's Hammer and as you can see, it could lift you off your feet if you don't know what you're doing. The guy knows what he's doing!
@@condorsalesman It's definitely a sport. Not so popular these days, but kite ballet and precision and trick flying, all used to run to world championship levels back in the 80s and 90s. 1992 North West Regional Stunt Kite Championships ua-cam.com/video/qeRhwzNwjkE/v-deo.html Heh, no need to watch the whole vid, unless you're bored, it's just to show that it really was a thing. But you should deffo watch this whole vid. ua-cam.com/video/nr9KrqN_lIg/v-deo.html I met this gentle man around 1985 in England at a kite festival and shook his hand after watching him fly just two kites, one from each hand! But he went on to set several world records and entertained peeps in many different countries with his kite ballet. He was completely deaf by the way.
Watching the first guy I was thinking he was exagerrating the movements outreagously then the next group did the same sort of routine while in group formation and NONE of them needed to move like that, then in the description it warns not to try this yourself as you could "pull a muscle or vital organ", this is comedy gold and hilarious especially if it's not satire.
For me ''this is great''....very good video....the music background is good too....very nice....thanks for upload!!....greetings from Chile-South America....interesante video,al que llegue por medio ''de la casualidad''....sorprende ver ''un volantin o cometa gigante'',manejada tan diestramente;sobre todo por ''el primer participante''....muy coreografico....bonito de ver y observar....gracias por subirlo!!....
Needed an inset view on this screen with what the kites were doing as well as seeing what the pilots were doing with the lines and toggles on the screen. First guy... yep... know the feeling... been there, done that, been dragged and MAN.... did i feel alive! Piloting a power or stunt kite is just the best feeling. Its a fun workout,,
Sure would be nice to see more KITE flying than people watching. I can appreciate seeing what the individuals, especially the group, are doing, but I sure missed a lot of what the Chicago Flyers were doing in the air!
I think this video is fantastic, almost a tutorial... It require skills and strength to keep a stunt kite up on the ski, specially one so big as this one showing here... I have a little jazz, and every time I try to drive her, she drags me to the ground, showing me that she is still the boss... Beautiful, and cheerful video, 5*s :]
In the history of kite flying we can see a trend developing whereby the user exerts increasing levels of deftness, and physical energy to control the craft. This relates quite accurately to the growth of the industrial process. The comparisons are obviously many, but most intriguingly this can be related to how mankind takes a concept and pushes it further. Which is also witnessed in other sports and human endeavours. Without a doubt, you can see the links.
I think most people here miss the point about what this video is presenting. Admittedly the video could of been entitled more to reflect how the flyer and kite act as one. Something to that effect with an embed video of the kite flying in the corner of the main footage. At first I thought what a load of shit, but then what I saw grew on me. In fact it has made me decide I would like to do more than just slow graceful flying as I ponder more on taking up the hobby of kite flying. I'm now thinking of the fitness benefits that can come from flying large kites. Over all I am looking for a middle ground with this video helping me to get a good perspective of both the past time and the sport. Cool Video ... TY. ;)
Having flown both for about 15 years .... stunt kites are all about mental ability and skill ..... for the most part now days, traction kites, while fantastic in their design and ability ..... are rather tame now days and do not require much skill to fly ..... I have personally been over 5 meters up without inch of hesitation with an old 4.2m2 c-quad, and could hover that thing just above the ground upside down on a light day .... try that with a bow kite!!
In your analogy, this is more like watching a guitar player's hands but not being able to hear the music. There are two components to each. The product and the mechanics behind it. To appreciate it fully, you need both which the cameraman tries to provide.
I've picked up a couple of kites from charity shops, both opened me up like a village fate! Health and safety regulations often get on my nerves, but there should be a warning ⚠ on all kite packaging advising people to wear thick leather gloves.
There's 150 billion kite videos on You Tube. All of them primarily show the kite. Watch one of those instead of whining about the choices of the camera person.
i just got a decent kite i was lokking forward to flying it but now looking at the work out these people are doing just to keep it up and do some moves its scaring me lol
:50 "Ride like the wind" I thought I was dedicated to kite piloting... until I saw Bruh drop the mic on this. Hard yes. Ride it till the wheels fall off...
Yes... For the most part the "flying kites" were eliminated. A little mix of showing the result of the pilots movements would have been a good thing .. FWIW!!!
Most people who are interested in stunt kites (which presumably includes the videographer) want to know HOW they do those things, and so they concentrate on the people who are flying them. As noted, there are plenty of UA-cam clips of the kites themselves. It's similar to a video of a particularly good guitar player; you want to see his fingers, not his face.
I like seeing the pilots sometimes. Its way to much focus on just the kites in the videos. And only showing the kites wouldn't tell anything about the power of the wind that day. Anyway some more snippets with kites in could have helped.
Focus on the kites, you don't go to an airshow to watch the pilots.Or an r/c model plane- fly in-to stare at the transmitters,do ya? not complaining, just saying,it's all good! Peace!
When Argos sells kites they should put thick leather gloves on the same page, if I took my daughter kite flying and ended up having to take her to hospital for stitches, I would never forgive myself.

And that music is the background or did you add it? Because that music rules
I'm wondering if this is what I look like, when I'm out ripping my Prism Quantum and Nexus through the air...ugghh

where's the kites? all I see is the people flying them!
why did you tape the kiters instead of the kites?!? that's pretty pointless.

If a person who is having anorexia is flying the kite, the kite will fly him.

This isn't extreme kite flying - this is people trying to control kites on an extremely windy day.
you know.... it would help if you actually record the kite rather than the flyers....
