  • In 2004, Boeing decided to end production of its 757 after many decades of producing the pocket rocket. Why did Boeing choose to do this, was it a mistake and just how pivotal was the development of other aircraft in forcing the plane maker to make this decision?

    No manufacturer makes an equivalent aircraft. Delta also flies the B767 as well.

      Delta has plans to retire it's 767s by 2025 tho but the 757s in Delta's fleet will soldier on for a few more years

      Airlines apparently disagree with you only 20% of those built for passengers remain in service, so they have obviously been replaced. The 20% still remaining is mostly Delta and United and they both have orders to replace their 757 plates

    Flew the BA 757 a lot between LHR and Manchester, UK. It was a joy to ride, fast, reliable, all weathers. Sad to see its days numbered.

    It was the first plane I flew with as a kid with Condor back in 1996. I also was a pax with the 767 with Condor and were allowed to watch the landing in the cockpit. Pretty amazing planes with much of room in the Cockpit and not beeing in a can like in the 737.

    Such a damn shame. My fav plane. C'mon now you don't see Ferrari canceling it's vehicles so why cancel the only Ferrari in the passenger plane world lol. Hope they bring it back such an amazing piece of engineering

    Just curious? How many 757 videos have you done? So old news…..
    It is my favorite plane, just tired of videos for a plane that has been out of production for 19 years. It will never be built again as all the tooling and jigs are long gone. Never can be built again and it would be a whole new airframe.
    Let’s move on….
    As it turns out it’s a Airbus commercial

    I don’t think Boeing will bring 757 back and going ahead to develop NMA or 797 even if they are 10 years gap of this market, but the aircraft must be a revolutionary and taking an A321LR/XLR market share

      They are not just a bunch of fanboys, hoping for it it’s now been 18 years since it’s been produced the entire production supply chain no longer exists, nor does the space to build it not to mention there were no inches for it just just fan boy stuff

    The significance of the 757 and 767 are evident in the number of years they've been in service and continue to serve.
    As a matter of fact, when you think of it, nearly every Boeing passenger has been iconic. With the exception of the 707, the last of which only recently stopped flying, every Boeing passenger type is still being flown all around the world. Incredible!

    The A321neo can match the capacity and range of the 757 but not the payload capacity. The 757 was really the sweet spot when it came to the passenger/cargo mix.

    • @johniii8147

      @johniii8147 Exactly. Far too many people forget that while excess performance may please some, if is not required, that 'extra' often has a significant and unjustifiable operational expense

  • @neilpickup237
    @neilpickup237 7 місяців тому

    The 757 has far too much performance for most of the tasks asked of it.
    It only survived for as long as it has for the simple reason that there was nothing around which could replace it.
    That was until the A321neo and its longer range variants came along.
    While the A321 may have deficiencies on paper, in reality, in most cases, it is more than good enough for what is now required of it.
    And it performs those tasks far more economically than the 757.
    Resurrecting the 757 would be madness, better to give the 787 a single aisle brother.

    • @dknowles60
      @dknowles60 7 місяців тому +1

      there are air ports that the 757 can fly out of that the A321 neo cznt

    • @neilpickup237
      @neilpickup237 7 місяців тому

      @dknowles60 Agreed, which is why I qualified it with 'most'.
      Unfortunately, for a potential 757 replacement, what little market is left where there is no suitable Airbus A321 variant, is not enough to justify a dedicated aircraft, which even if it did, there just are not the engines available.
      Boeing probably threw away any opportunity to create something worthy enough to replace the 757 when they decided upon the 737 Max rather than going clean-sheet.
      Assuming that engines are eventually available, I suspect that Airbus would be able to fit them to the A320 series for a fraction of the cost, as well as in a fraction of the time required by Boeing to either resurrect the 757, or design something new.
      It is also entirely possible that even more of the airports where the performance of the 757 is required will lengthen their runways to accommodate what is available, even further reducing the potential market for a true 757 replacement.
      Those unable to do so may have little choice other than to use something, for example like the A220, with an increased frequency to replace the capacity lost.
