I agree. Although it was not intentional. McDavid was following behind Hughes, then Hughes suddenly turned around while McDavid had his stick at that level. That level was actually a bit lower because Hughes was a bit crouched when he turned around.

Officiating in this league is pathetic. We can't go 1 playoff game without refs turning a blind eye to dangerous plays and/or calling a penalty for a nonexistent infraction.

Can someone make a compilation of the worst missed calls for the playoffs this year? I’ve watched nearly every game that’s been on. I’ve seen like only two games where at the end I was like “ya know the officiating was only bad not awful”
I think the refs are being told to allow flagrants and personals more often, as if the higher-ups are trying to bring back rough sports. What MJ would refer to as "real man's basketball" for a reference. I refer to the NBA because the same thing is happening over there.
The NHL covers for it's stars. Crosby got the same treatment. They can do what they want while other players get fined, suspended, major penalties if they barely hit the stars.

Two options : 1) McDavid is so woeful, so inept, that he has no idea where his stick is. 2) It was deliberate.
McDavid is looking being him with his stick in the air. Looks like coincidental contact with 0 intent. It should have been a penalty, but the guy is the fastest hockey player in the world so you cant expect the refs to catch everything.

an accidental amount of damage, that's for sure. that's a huge risk to intentionally take while down in the series,
and McDavid has his share of uncalled (not quite that bloody though) high sticking shots himself.
Even if it’s accidental.. still a penalty. They’re pros they gotta be in control of their stick.

If this was a soccer game they would be carrying Hughes out on a stretcher as he rolled around and milked every second of it. Instead he gets up, wants to play right away, but the refs tell him he has to go off because he's bleeding too much. God I love this sport!

People don't know how to read actions. McDavid was skating behind Hughes. Hughes was going one way with McDavid following behind him, then Hughes suddenly turns around and gets a high stick to the face. He basically ran into it. McDavid didn't know he was going to turn around so suddenly. Sure, it was purely unintentional on McDavid's part but a high stick is a high stick and should have been called.
That looked intentional.

Soucy tried to cross-check McDavid in the chest in retaliation for a lumberjack chop to the leg, McDavid coincidentally crumpled from Zadorov’s attack (tbf seemed unjustified) so he got it in the face. McDavid even drew blood, and Soucy will probably get a suspension. BS I think, but it ain’t that deep so idk

Missed call, but I don’t believe it was on purpose. Just careless. Should have been double minor. But the retaliation by Vancouver is suspendable. Oilers lost this game anyway, so that’s generally a wash. But at least one of the 2 Vancouver players should get some kind of suspension. Not super long as stick to face in that circumstance was also generally an accident

Miller was repeatedly punching McDavid and Draisaitl in the scrum prior and got no penalty. At least this happened in an instant where you initially cant even tell what happened but refs just watch DB Miller punch guys repeatedly 😄
