He created this persona/fame through Instagram, but he doesn’t offer a finished product that’s any better than 100s of other single needle artists around North America.
Ok, this guy is really cool. He's self-aware, and I love his vibe. Not a weird overly mysterious dude like the title implies, but someone who just does his thing, and well.
I always admire fresh tats with delicate lines and details, but I'm always wary of how they hold up long term. My prediction is that fine line and watercolor type tattoos get muddy and faded very quickly.
This video could have been done a whole lot better if done with less admiration for the artist. Just way too much makes it seem forced. Just an opinion

Japie Kessels like garbage :/ i have a couple single needle tattoos of very simple simple things i got when i was 21 because i didn’t know better, i love them still but they blew out and the lines are not sharp at all like when they were a couple of months old. i’m 27 now, my single needle tattoos look like the ink expanded into the other lines as they’re known to do because our skin wants to heal them its own way and if the lines aren’t thick they won’t last.

He markets himself more to the hipster crowd. But as for being a super talented tattoer i think he is overated. His clients talk about how crazy skilled he is with designs and the video shows him tracing something he printed out lol.

Seriously he looks humble and says alot of things that are true, but first, this type of tattoing is not going to look good or even last in a couple of years, but hey, dumb people demanding this, so he gives them what they want. And this is what a tattooer should be: a service provider, with an ethical responsibility for what he should tattoo. But all the people elevating tattooers to the sky should really back off. "Never start believing in what your customer tells you" or you`ll start getting hight and the fall will come pretty quick.
