- Today I want to share with you some secrets about sewing threads. If you don’t know this information you may and will experience tension issues, or other weird problems. It doesn’t even matter if we’re talking about a sewing machine, a serger, an embroidery machine or even a longarm machine. All are equally affected by this.

omg this is very useful, thank you, I never knew there was a part that comes out in Gutermann bobbins!
To use stacked wound thread, I have used a bobbin of thread on the bobbin holder or placed a straw over the bobbin holder and used small spools of stacked thread. Thanks for all the info.
That's a great idea! I use thread caps, they are in the article.
I have a Singer 600e (circa about 1964). It has a horizontal spool pin and cap. Cross wound thread was not as commen then as now. I remember as a child having no problem with parallel spools working on it if you made sure it wasn't winding off the end with the slit to hold unused thread ends. Things have changed since then, and I appreciate your video.
Thank you! Impressive, that machine is now what - 58 years old? I wonder how long the newer plastic one will last.
Thanks a lot for this useful video. Do you have any detailed information on video or web page regarding types of threads: tex 27, 40, D210, .... it's difficult to understand for newbie. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for watching! In the description there are four links to articles on my site with details that you are asking for. The one that talks about sizes is this: www.ageberry.com/sewing-thread-sizes-how-to-choose/
Thanks so much. I have a sideways spool holder. And I didn't know about the the vertical and horizontal problems can be this. Thank you very much. I appreciate you.
Glad I could help! Thank you.
I love to topstitch with embroidery threads. Like the sheen I used them on sm log cabin placemats. Have problems w shredding. Any suggestions?
I do it all the time as I like to quilt with my embroidery machine. What kind of embroidery thread are you using? I think rayon may shred... If you use polyester embroidery thread then change the needle, use a topstitching needle or an embroidery needle with a bigger eye.
Ok will definitely get embroidery needles. I am using Smithread embroidery thread polyester threads. Thanks you have been very helpful love your channel
Good luck! Perhaps let us know if it made a difference?
Thank you for great information. I would have never considered this.
Thanks for watching; glad it was helpful!
I had never given much thought to this. sometimes I use a thread stand and sometimes not, but am going to try to apply this rule when I sew any more and see if this stops some of my shredding problems. thanks.
Thank you for your feedback!
A straw over the bobbin holder, it works. Thank you!

Wow who knew?!! I did not know how the thread is wound determines how it sits on the machine. Very helpful, thank you.
Oh and I remember when fabric was 36" wide, back in the day!
