I ran into this type of needle several years ago while browsing through a haberdashery shop on a trip to London. I love them, but didn't think of the many uses you showed in your video. I used them mainly when my thread ends were too short to put through the eye of a regular needle as when fixing a seam that came undone or when I accidentally cut the threads too short. I love the idea of using it to finish my serged ends!

I'm so glad to hear that my video opened up some new possibilities for you! It's always exciting to discover different ways to use tools we already love. Thank you for sharing your experience, and I'm thrilled you found the tips useful. I actually have more uses for those needles, for example, I use them for securing elastic thread when doing shirring. I just made a new video on shirring, so maybe check it out.

Some sewing machines, like mine, have a small wire hook mechanism that drops into place to pull the thread through the needle. The needle itself is not self threading.

Yes, right! This automatic needle threader feature on a sewing machine is a great help for many sewists.

If I understood you correctly, your sewing machines come equipped with a built-in needle threading feature. Usually, there's a small lever or mechanism that you pull down, which hooks the thread and pulls it through the eye of the needle for you. Each machine can be a bit different, so I'd recommend consulting your machine's manual for instructions. But the needles that come with sewing machines are not self-threading. You need to buy them separately.

Yes, certainly, there are self-threading needles available for sewing machines. These needles are designed with a small slit at the eye. They can be purchased separately and used on many machines, offering a convenient solution for quick and easy threading.
