Life saver!! First year hanging icicle lights and I don’t plan on spending hours untangling next them next year or chucking perfectly good lights to avoid detangling them!! Thank you for this one it’s a game changer
Before I quit using icicle lights I use to buy the light reels that came with a tote bag. I think I still have them somewhere in my storage unit gathering dust.
Instead of the separators, I use 1 gallon food, storage bags, or Walmart bags. One set of lights per bag. Lay the bags in the bottom of a tote. Put a sheet of cardboard or posterboard on top of the layer then add a second layer . more bags of lights if you have that many. Or other decorations. Keep the second layer, light weight with wreaths or garlands.
First, you have an awesome UA-cam handle, 3000! Secondly, that's a brilliant storage hack! Using gallon food storage or Walmart bags to keep each set of lights separate is a great idea-it's all about keeping things organized. Layering them with cardboard or posterboard to create tiers within a tote is a fantastic way to prevent tangling and protect the lights. Plus, incorporating wreaths or garlands in the second layer is a smart way to maximize space and keep everything neat and tidy. Thanks for sharing this clever storage method!
I'm surprised you never showed us what it will look like when you take them out of storage, when you untangle them, just so we could see how they come apart ( I don't have any at the moment to test myself ). Thanks
1st time watching your show & definitely will subscribe. The icicle storage left me feeling vindicated because my kids are always teasing me about storing them like that every year! Then I felt a twang of disappointment because I was hoping for something different than what i was already doing but you know what they say “if it’s not broke then don’t fix it” lol Maybe the smaller boxes with the barriers will be key but they don’t tangle that bad! My father used to ask me “Why is there never enough time to do things right yet always enough times to do things over”? It was his favorite cliche! Hearing you say something similar was kind of reminiscent! Thank you for that and thanks for the tip! Happy Holidays Charlie, to you and yours! Stacie L
That's such an awesome piece of advice your father relayed to you. I'll definitely be borrowing that and passing that down to our children. These lights are the one set of Christmas lights that are the most difficult to store but are the easiest to use on your house. They add an instant holiday look to the front of anyone's home. Happy holidays to you, Stacie!
@@ChristmasOnCrestline well I think you said one time your wife is an engineer. So maybe she build you a lift I was looking into buying one of them but I wouldn't use it enough for the money it's worth unless I can get maybe one cheap somehow
@@ChristmasOnCrestline I was hoping to quickly Google how to store Christmas lights because I figured someone had a great video quickly explaining a better process. What I got was your video going on forever about some stuff until you finally suggest "rolling it into a ball". Sorry but I did not gain value from your video.
No need to apologize. Not everyone is repeat viewer of the show and some, like yourself, are just watching the show for the first time.. That's why I add the chapters to the timeline so folks can quickly jump to the part of the video that they are looking for. Best of luck in your video search.
Hi, Thanks for the shout out. I will promise you that i will post a link to our UA-cam Channel Soon. That way we can share the Christmas Love. #nzteddyferriswheel search will allow you all to see better videos (my fault). Thanks again. Oh more Teddy Rides Coming.
@@ChristmasOnCrestline Lol. We had the kids standing in line with them. My displays as interactive. The Sleigh and reindeer have a smoke machine that whoever sits in it and pushes the GO button, the fog appears and shot through reindeer and with simple ed and Green laser light, it looked like the reindeer were flying. I allowed anyone who wanted to bring their teddy to have a free ride for the Teddy. OMG The les, wows and feedback was worth all those hours of work. Me, i will never have the same display twice. Thanks again for the Shout out. Chat soon
Fair enough. Give others a chance at it. Mine only allows taking 1st, 2nd or 3rd every other year. I'm happy when homes put up any sort of decorative displays. I've always thought neighborhoods that decorate make for the best memory making sights. Homes without lights are a tad saddening.
Those don’t look like the icicles we have, they are so much more longer and get tangled very easily and bad, the ones you are using are very short and the drops are short too. Any idea how to do the longer drop ones? We took the decorations down and trying to find a way to store them and it’s hard to do without tangles 😩
Oh wow! Those sound fun. I asked around and apparently a common method is to use cookie sheet paper or butcher paper, lay the paper down and then lay the icicle lights down on it. Then roll the paper up. That should keep them from tangling, R.

You are so welcome! Happy holidays!
After wrapping my lights, I put each set into a plastic grocery bag.
That is a fine idea, Michael. Keeps them separated and in an obvious see-through(ish) container.

I have seen those bags before but have never used them. I do love to use reels though. Good advice though!

@@ChristmasOnCrestline thanks for the great idea. Looking forward to trying it.
Thanks again.
Does this really work? Unrolling them is where the tangling begins.
You can also fold them, like you would a bed sheet. and use Coke or Pepsi case boxes to storage separate them.
Great tip I'm definitely going to try this one out.
I'm happy you found this helpful. It does make it easy to locate them for next season.
Oh, that's brilliant. I can put other strings in a box, stack those boxes, and label them with a Sharpie. You just saved me a ton of space.
You can indeed, W. The sharpie trick is a good idea too.
What a brilliant, simple, and cheap idea this is! How have I never thought about this. Mind BLOWN!
I like cheap and simple too, Yesok
I love your advice, your charisma, your sweater, your hat (HO cubed)...so cleverly funny...I want one, & you remind me of Vince Vaughn!

You and me both! I only started doing this a few years back. Now, I don't use icicles.
excellent tip! Lights store neatly and not tangled! Thanks
Indeed they are, Sherri!
Awsome nice thank you! For the most part, I just make them into a brick lol! It doesn't get tangled too bad but this is better!
Hey there, James. Making them into a brick is a fine way to wrap them up.
Want to see proof they did not tangle.
Fair enough, Hot. I've got an updated video that will be released in my annual summer series.
Too late. @@ChristmasOnCrestline
A great way to store lights and a great reason to buy more cases lol. This really sounds like a great way to store lights in stackable form. Nice tip!
lol a great reason indeed.
Fantastic idea
Hey there, Randy. Thank ya much.
I am trying to think of a substitute because we don't drink anything that comes out of a box. Great idea.
Ah, good call, Diana. Tearing up cardboard boxes works just the same.
Do friends drink soda ask them for their empty boxes.
