In this video we are going to look at how we can use the Glob Module, in Python, to find all files within a directory and use the data in those files to proudce data within Houdini. We will do two projects in this video, the first we are going to read some text and create text geometry from all the files, and second, we are going to assemble a set of tiled heightmaps into a single heightmap. All using the glob module and some fun Houdini tricks! Check it out!

Thanks for another great tutorial! You seem to know a lot about Houdini and Digital Assets, so you might know the answer to this. Is it possible to save a new node definition inside an Hda? So the new node type is available to anyone installing the Hda?

Hi, these tutorials are awesome. Could you make some about Python states at some point? I'm interested in creating a spline tool able to have its own transforms on each point with Python states, but I don't even know where to start. Thanks!

Hi Lil Kagwe, definitely try leaning Houdini if you want to get into 3D modelling, esp. procedural modelling. I started off using Houdini Apprentice version but have since gone to an Indie license because it's such a powerful program. The only advice I'd have about using Apprentice license is if / when you upgrade to a limited or full commercial license from your apprentice license, you won't be able to use any of your apprentice (non-commercial .hipnc) files unless you convert them to commercial format (.hip, .hiplc) same goes for any hda's you make with an apprentice license. SideFX have a convert webpage that you can log into and upload apprentice files to convert them to commercial format, but that quickly becomes tedious believe you me....lol. Anyway, don't be daunted by the learning curve, it never stops so you might as well get used to it...lol, think of it as a challenge & you'll be right. Indie-Pixel will set you on the right track...a procedural race or rally track that is....lol. Enjoy & good luck.

Hi! I work for a company that is building an online learning platform. Your videos would be a perfect fit. Would it be possible to get your email ID to discuss this further?
