I've been able to sing the heck out of Unchained Melody for twenty years but I am female so hitting the higher notes is no problem for me. My main range is messo soprano but i can go lower with ease. When I sing in a soprano range I can hit the high notes but I find it hard to sustain them for too long because my voice will crack. With a lot of practice it's getting better. I will be 68 years old next month and singing and practicing keeps my voice limber and relieves stress. I work at a local nursing home and sing for the residents for fun when I can. I wish more musicians and singers would practice at a nursing home in their area. Some might even pay you but it's good for live audience feedback. Our residents love all kinds of music. Big band, soft rock, classic rock, blues, jazz standards, 40's, 50's, 60's, country, show tunes, etc. You name it. Some are so bored they might even listen to anything different. We are starting to get more and more baby boomers so heavier rock might get enjoyed too.
Here's one for ya; two parts, same song. That boisterous long note on Shine Down's "45" where he says "I Believe" and "FOOOIRRTTTYY FIIIVVEEE" Ive been practicing this song for a while and I just cant seem to keep the emphasis off as clear and concise.

I was figuratively hanging on your lips when you explained the technical vocal skills required for unchained melody. I think that the technical skill required to sing certain songs - be it Eminem's Rap God or I can't help falling in love with you by Elvis - are largely underrated by the average listener. I personally have listened to Unchained Melody hundreds of times and have based my love for the song on the emotions and feelings it created with me but never realised how darn difficult that is from a vocal point of view. So if you would consider making a "I explain overlooked and/or underrated very difficult singing techniques in famous songs" I would be eternally grateful.

The ending of "Sad Statue" by SOAD. I've a decent voice, yet it's soooooo hard to sustain that note. (Well, for me it is) Also, about the Number of the Beast scream (from TV Tropes): "The legendary 13-second scream heard at the 1min17sec mark in the title track was apparently summoned up by Martin Birch (the producer) forcing Dickinson to sing the introduction for hours, take after take. It ended up being possibly the fiercest, most blood-curdling of his career. To this day, Dickinson has never been able to reproduce it."
It's the executioin and Cornell's soulful voice that nails it. It's hard but not "that" hard, but you gotta have the soul, like most Cornell's song (Looking at you, "Black hole sun"…)
