With Freddie, I feel like the way in which his mouth was literally constructed a bit differently had a big influence on his sound and makes it hard for people to really nail it.
True, there’s just a some kind of fundamental thing Freddy has that make him sound so unique and like himself, that’s pretty hard cover. What struck me a bit watching this, is how clean Freddie’s sound are in the high register - he makes it sound so effortless, and there’s no distortion going on as well. I am not a singer myself (unless I am in the car by myself 😉 ) but a massive Queen fan, and the only one I have heard that comes close to the sound of Freddy is Marc Martell.
It's called a voice. Everyone has vocal cords that develop very differently as they use their voice growing up. Freddy cultivated his voice over many years with plenty of practice.
@@mirceadraculov6515 its not called, an voice. Its called mouth development. He had a massive overbite. It helped. It shaped his singing voice. It didnt shape his power. It shaped a lot of the rest
The likelihood that these singers all did it perfect on their first try is very low. Maybe Freddie and Nina Simone could, but I’m willing to bet the others all practiced and did multiple takes before getting it right. It’s impressive that you can even get in the ballpark with no practice.
4:48 thank you finally someone recommended DGD to anthony , there's a lot of them song with certain vocal difficulty, like Man of the year outro, inspire the liar , we own the night
As NOT a professional vocalist (although I have done a bit of singing), my throat hurts a little just watching you do this. Impressive how you can just jump right in and do these vocalcord-wrenching... sounds, and still keep you voice. Looking forward to tomorrow's release. Also, more than a little happy that won't be in the style of Lorna Shore :D
The only thing is that you don't use your throat to make these sounds. You'll occasionally change the shape of your throat in order to tighten the airways and alter the sound, but that's about it. Other than that, it's all air forced from the diaphragm, so if it would hurt your throat, you're doing it wrong.
@@shona5512 Haha, no - I get that you weren't talking about me specifically. But I, on the other hand, was. By the way, shoutout to the person that asked for 2112,that song is fucking amazing and his vocals are tremendous there,it would be very interesting to see Anthony doing this song in many different styles, especially considering how big it is
would be cool to see you try Hexagram by Deftones. "God, I trust everyone quicker with every faint smile" or any of the long screams in that song they are ridiculous. Chino destroyed his vocal chords making that album
As a metal head... THANK YOU for doing the Lorna Shore clip! Nice to see some modern metal on here... And you actually did QUITE well for never doing those vocals before. Killer job dude 💜✌️
The thing about how Freddie sings the vowels is probably to do with his natural accent because even when I sing I carry my natural accent into the singing itself
If you do research into how the brain works you'd find that musical things use a totally separate part of your brain than actual speech. So in theory this might not be true. For example, a lot of people who have hardcore stutters that sing don't even stutter at all while singing because of this exact reason. Like when I listen to Dua Lipa sing I don't hear her accent at all. Didn't even know she was British at all till I watched an interview with her.
@@thejellyfish6267 yeah you got a point but I took psych in college and that was one of the things that really interested me because I play guitar and sing.
@@Si1v3RfaNg you summed it up with "in theory this may not be true" you have a theory. Doesn't mean you're correct. You can often hear accents in singing, it's been proven over time.
I’m sure this will just get lost, BUT- do the part in Demolisher by Slaughter to Prevail (it’s in Russian) at 2:25 to 2:43. A lot harder than Lorna Shore, in my opinion.
Alex’s style is definitely harder to do than Will’s but I think a lot of it is because people don’t know how many styles Alex actually does. I think a lot of his lows and gutturals are fry, but his mids are false chord, and his super lows are also false chord. I think his primary tool is his projection. When I try to replicate any of his styles, I have to really utilize my breath support and make the growls as loud as possible without loosing compression and control. From messing around a bit, I think his iconic super low growls are essentially a basic false chord low but you want to strategically lower your larynx without straining your throat and most importantly open your throat and mouth. Just create as much space as possible. Lower your jaw and relax your throat, but keep your soft pallet raised and push with your diaphragm.

“Defying Gravity” from Wicked is still the hardest vocals I’ve heard. “Chasing Pavements” by Adele runs a close second. The metal ones are about hitting the tone and sound locations, stuff like those are just pure “My voice does insane shit”.

Celine Dion live performance: "Can't help falling in love" at third minute, high note and a run. Second part of that with a sustained belt would be a good challenge too :)
If there's one thing that's out of your range, it's slaughter to prevail - demolisher. Alex is just outside everyone's range. would be happy to be proven wrong tho. :)
Alex Terrible/Slaughter to Prevail - "Demolisher" :) Moment from 2:20 , but the whole song is hard enough)) Or you can try same band, song BABA YAGA - 'blood we drunk flesh we ate' at the ending of the song. Good luck Anthony :D
That was really entertaining. You also made me appreciate Freddie Mercury even more. What a talent to just nail that with so much power. That said, you killed it.
His highest note in 'Still My Bleeding Heart' made him pass out during recording sessions, it's sick. I'd love to hear him giving 'Thing Beyond Things''s last scream a shot too.
The scream "You are consumed" that lasts about 20 seconds in the track "Gored" by Loathe, the chorus of "Omniphobia" by Sianvar, and the scream in "Jerk Off" by Tool.
For me not only you're doing great, it's more like i look at you to learn. And I don't just mean how to sing, but the okeyness that surrounds you, that " I'll try and so what if i fuck up" I never had that, i look up to you man, keep it up, you're inspiring me!

Heh, modern death metal/deathcore vocals (harsh vocals in general) have way, way more in common with early 90’s death and extreme metal vocals (think Suffocation, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse, etc,) than they do with Corey Taylor’s unique style of aggressive screaming, so kinda funny to hear Anthony say that he’s an old school guy when it comes to harsh vocals and as use Corey as an example of where he comes from even though modern extreme metal vocals, although they’ve naturally evolved, are more akin to vocalists that were around before Corey. Either way, unlike the kewl ones, I love it all!

Well... Corey has a unique scream because he did it wrong and blew his vocal chords. So... ya know
Is a guy on youtube named SidWilson17 he sounds amazing listen to his vocal cover of The Negative One by Slipknot
Davidmeshow A canadian UA-camr Did a cover of Slipknot you should take a Look the Song was The Devil In I and I'm not Sure About that Comment about Corey Taylor vocal chord Sounds More To me like Jealous Hater Comment I saw Him Live a year before covid 19 in Summerfest in Quebec And It sounds Still in very Good Shape!!✌
As the people who comment on the videos. I don’t think any of us here can compete with ol 18in neck Corey Taylor 😂🤘🏽
@@nicholasward8358 in that era compared to the debut record. He jumped around and was out of breath. In the next cycle he payed more attention to vocals instead of jumping every second. Sure he may of not used proper technique. But what metal singer in their early days singed proper in their 20s?
I would really like to see you try Alex Terrible/Slaughter to Prevail next ;)
Demolisher I guess.
He's not a deathcore guy mate
Baba Yaga would be epic because the Mix with the cleans Alex Terrible sings!
@@resn8026 he’ll have to learn Russian, unless he already knows it, might be tough
Honestly? I love coming to these videos to continuously be blown away with your singing ability. You’re just so impressive
I was laughing so hard with the Lorna Shore part 😂😂 the guy's extreme vocals are so impressive tho 😵
Will Ramos is insane, he had some huge shoes to fill after CJ, but he's absolutely nailing it!
Why would anyone listen to that kind of stuff I'm sincerely baffled
@@mrmcgreg I guess it's kind of like abstract art, it's not for everyone but those that like it can appreciate the artwork and the immense talent these musicians have. If you stand still and really listen to what they're doing you can hear the amazing musicianship they have. Deathcore bands often have some of the most talented people, but they go unnoticed because its such a niche genre with quite a stigma.
But music like that obviously isn't for everyone, you have to slowly get in to it, I never thought I'd listen to that stuff but now I love it.
@@Vestaxowner1 what u mean it slaps
@@pookman that too, but people that don't understand the genre won't agree so a good explanation was in order imo
will ramos (lorna shore) is an insane vocalist
People can say whatever they want good or bad, but you are a fantastic vocalist...always bring it!
Anthony, I will never stop suggesting this until you do it. Pisces by Jinjer. 'Pisces swimming through the river/All their life against the stream/Searching for a hook to catch on/And see their sunbeam'. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease attempt the scream and/or the super high soprano 'sunbeam'.
Still waiting to see you performing Beyond The Wheel with the low and high vocals

The Thing That Impresses Me The Most About Corey Taylor Is His Breath Control Especially In Disasterpiece
@@jakobdissingvang7851 who?
If that's true then damn I never should've had extractions and braces 🤣 Freddie is my number 1 vocalist 👑💗🔥 Been trying to emulate him for 30years 😱
The likelihood that these singers all did it perfect on their first try is very low. Maybe Freddie and Nina Simone could, but I’m willing to bet the others all practiced and did multiple takes before getting it right. It’s impressive that you can even get in the ballpark with no practice.
On god you should do more DGD tracks, Tilian has some INSANE high parts
4:48 thank you finally someone recommended DGD to anthony , there's a lot of them song with certain vocal difficulty, like Man of the year outro, inspire the liar , we own the night
Suggestion for a future video: Arrival by King Diamond. The range and the technique is just insane.
Haha I love this.
You're actually a genuinely incredible vocalist.
@@shona5512 Again, as NOT a professional singer, I would very easily do it wrong
@@torgnyaanderaa2334 When I say "you" I don't literally mean you. It's applicable to anyone trying it, if it hurts, it's the wrong technique.
@@shona5512 Haha, no - I get that you weren't talking about me specifically. But I, on the other hand, was. I'm super-impressed by this because I DON'T know the right techniques, and therefore wouldn't be able to do it without messing up my voice. (I mean, of COURSE I've tried to sing/growl/scream along with songs like this, but without that "know-how", it never ends well :) )
By the way, shoutout to the person that asked for 2112,that song is fucking amazing and his vocals are tremendous there,it would be very interesting to see Anthony doing this song in many different styles, especially considering how big it is
would be cool to see you try Hexagram by Deftones.
@@Si1v3RfaNg maybe, maybe not, everyone is different
@@thejellyfish6267 yeah you got a point but I took psych in college and that was one of the things that really interested me because I play guitar and sing.
@@Si1v3RfaNg you summed it up with "in theory this may not be true" you have a theory. Doesn't mean you're correct. You can often hear accents in singing, it's been proven over time.
I’m sure this will just get lost, BUT- do the part in Demolisher by Slaughter to Prevail (it’s in Russian) at 2:25 to 2:43. A lot harder than Lorna Shore, in my opinion.
Alex is a literal monster man, love that song
Finally, I was looking for someone to suggest Alex. I doubt he could do that
Alex’s style is definitely harder to do than Will’s but I think a lot of it is because people don’t know how many styles Alex actually does. Lower your jaw and relax your throat, but keep your soft pallet raised and push with your diaphragm.
i’ve been trying to learn eyeless on the drums for a month now. it’s too hard bro. rip joey :/
You got this bro
@@lukaszboczar2441 thanks bro

@@KetamineBoi-wb7yh yeah true. it’s just a lot rn bc i’ve only been playing for 8 months and my drumset is kinda crappy lol
The intro is very doable but the rest is ridiculously complicated
Aaawh, my kittie has the same thyroid issue but he's super skinny and very old. As long as he is happy and feeling "normal" he gets to hang around for a bit more. She looks amazing 💜 and you do too, even if I come for the voice, my eyes enjoy the candy. A complete experience, and cats make life even better! 💜
2:45 love the random outburst of Bullet with butterfly wings
That Corpse impression was on point! Great vid man.
You honestly did really well!
I was gonna suggest Dance Gavin Dance for next time, I was really excited to see someone had suggested them for today!
“Defying Gravity” from Wicked is still the hardest vocals I’ve heard. “Chasing Pavements” by Adele runs a close second. The metal ones are about hitting the tone and sound locations, stuff like those are just pure “My voice does insane shit”.
I was singing "defying gravity" in the kitchen yesterday and my 7 year old stopped me "mum, you don't have it" 😂😂 I swear I sounded just like Idina Menzel in my head
Celine Dion live performance: "Can't help falling in love" at third minute, high note and a run. Second part of that with a sustained belt would be a good challenge too :)
I need a full cover of Eyeless that was good
Next you should do “stargazer” by DIO. The two parts at 1:43 and the other at 3:18. He’s the best metal singer in my opinion.
You should do a full cover of Eyeless. I had chills, man
Havent watched yet but you have to try the breakdown to Demolisher by Slaughter to Prevail its impossible
If there's one thing that's out of your range, it's slaughter to prevail - demolisher.
Alex is just outside everyone's range.
would be happy to be proven wrong tho. :)
My life energy extends by ten years every time you do Chris Cornell
Alex Terrible/Slaughter to Prevail - "Demolisher" :) Moment from 2:20 , but the whole song is hard enough)) Or you can try same band, song BABA YAGA - 'blood we drunk flesh we ate' at the ending of the song. Good luck Anthony :D
I was legitimately impressed with the Lorna Shores one. Nice job man!
Chris Cornell had such an amazing and unique voice, I was absolutely blown away when I heard his live acoustic album.
Never in a million years have I thought I could see Anthony doing goblin screams/deathcore stuff!
That was really entertaining. You also made me appreciate Freddie Mercury even more. What a talent to just nail that with so much power. That said, you killed it.
I think comments are what bumps videos now so...Keep up the awesome work! Ty for being one of my inspirations for getting into music.
Literally ANYTHING Devin Townsend. His control on his fry's are insane.
I was going to say Devin... I will say anyway
His highest note in 'Still My Bleeding Heart' made him pass out during recording sessions, it's sick.
I'd love to hear him giving 'Thing Beyond Things''s last scream a shot too.
Can’t forget Deadhead, Kingdom, Resolve, Storm, Aftermath, Oh My F*cking God, or Deconstruction

Strapping Young Lad.
The scream "You are consumed" that lasts about 20 seconds in the track "Gored" by Loathe, the chorus of "Omniphobia" by Sianvar, and the scream in "Jerk Off" by Tool.
I really like that you try many things. As a singer, I really appreciate to see vocalist I admire work on hard stuff!
YES A NEW UPLOAD AND ONE OF MY FAVORITE TYPES OF VIDEO YOU MAKE!
For me not only you're doing great, it's more like i look at you to learn. And I don't just mean how to sing, but the okeyness that surrounds you, that " I'll try and so what if i fuck up"
I never had that, i look up to you man, keep it up, you're inspiring me!
Voodoo by King Diamond, the man is a vocal genius!!
That was an extremely good try in the Lorna Shore song. PLEASE do Satellites by Periphery, the high part at the end where he says satellites.
im fully convinced nobody will ever hit Freddie's high notes in the way he could, he had such a unique mouth shape considering his teeth, that closed vowel insane high note thing is baffling
I wanna hear him do that part in Periphery’s Satellites a little over 5 minutes in
I'd love to see you do some of dir en grey's more crazy vocal stuff like the quick changes in 'Hageshisa to' from singing to growling to squealing. It'd be really cool to see what you make of the techniques.
Would love to hear you cover Spencer Sotelo's high note in Satellites (hits a G5). 5:30 in the audio vid. It's also a 9 and a half minute song. Covering the whole thing in one take would be a challenge and a half
He actually nails a g5 in the dance Gavin dance part of this video around the 5 minute mark
@@NigelGrab yea Tilians G5 is good but the one coming off where Spencer is would be awesome. Or i would just love a satellites in 100 styles :D
Either way, unlike the kewl ones, I love it all!
my toddler was in awe, she is a mini metalhead in the making!
You nailed that "one last bit of vomit" part so damn well I even had to laugh.
Please try RATS!RATS!RATS! by Deftones the "Everything is fine, Every things just fine. EVERY THING IS FIIIIIINE" part
Or the fading out screams on “When Girls Telephone Boys”
this is one of the best eyeless executions i've ever seen.
