    Last year my mom and aunt went down to DeLand and purchased 3 pre bonsai for me. It's interesting to see how my procumbens was created.

    Sounds good I will have to give it a try for myself. How much rooting hormone do you add to the bucket of water that the cuttings are in? Thanks for all the information as always..

    Thank you so much! I will try this method. I can't air layer because the tree is on the side of the road near a homeless camper area. Not comfortable with doing that. I think I found a male juniper so want to propagate it. It seems they do not sell male junipers at nurseries. I am guessing maybe people hate the pollen dispersal. Anyway, looks like I need to get some rooting compound.

      Airlayering is your best bet for sure. It's certainly possible it is a Male, exp if you've never seen berries on it. It'll root true to form better from an airlayer anyway.
      Juniper seeds are mediocre at best and much slower than cuttings or airlayers.

      @@SchleysBonsai, it has to be cuttings because the tree is not in my yard. I will try the soaking method and the rooting/double rooting compound method. Not sure I can find those particular brands though.

    wow! I also want to try this! I did not quite understand which medium you use to root such a large piece?
    Did you say pine bark with perlite? what ratio?
    Have the cuttings been successful?
    Thank you for your response

    Are Sea Green junipers bonsai’able? Or, are their trunks/branches too straight and foliage too long & feathery?
    I have 2 old (leggy) ones in my backyard, about 20-25yo.

    Will Pete Moss work for propagating cuttings?

    Great tip thank you! However, it also raises a question. As the best time to root the cuttings is in January, would that also be an okay time to make such a large cut/wound on your original bonsai tree?

    Do you know if a thick Juniper branch cutting from a large tree has a chance of rooting with this method?

    • @SchleysBonsai
      @SchleysBonsai  7 років тому

      paidgigs it can, but the chance is normally slim on larger material. I'd consider air layering. Much better results.
