We were one of those families that lost out in moving to Spain due to Brexit...& yes we voted to remain in the EU. Let's hope the change in the Golden Visa rule, will open other easier avenues up for all those (like us) who still want to move there.
Out of the 302,000 Brits resident in Spain, only 0.01% hold a Golden Visa. If my maths are correct, that is just 30 people. It's to stop Chinese , Russian amd other foreign companies laundering funds here through property deals.
Hi Barry, I enjoyed the change in style with this video. I think that perhaps interviewing experts is a good idea - although there are a lot of other available channels doing similar. We move across to our house in Daya Vieja next Thursday on the NLV so perhaps might see you around as we explore. Keep up the good work 🇪🇸
Everyone seems to be reporting that the Golden Visa is ending. Not strictly true! They are stopping Golden Visa entitlement for Real Estate purchasers (of E500,000 or more) but the Visa can still be acquired by other investment, i.e. Business Development or Capital Transfer. Those do cost considerably more than the Real Estate option.
Barry .. When the Housing Boom went bust in Espana .. And the banks had numerous amounts of properties on their hands.. A few American Companies bought a lot of the properties for investments and started to put them on the market.. So that’s why the younger generation could afford to buy a property 🤔
Given the tiny number of GVs approved each year, less than 150 on average each year, it will make no difference at all. All it will do is remove the opportunity for businesses to be set up by non EU citizens. The housing demand is fed by NLV and EU immigration and by non resident investment in holiday lets. The GV debate is motivated by populist politicians. Its lazy politics.
No country that have tried the GV program and had 100% positive results. It usually hurts and inflates the real estate market. I hope they keep program open for other investment options such as stocks and bonds purchases and business.

Although Venezuela is a country with historical ties with Spain, it is considered that the millionaires from that country who access Spain with the Golden Visa are creating a community that is too influential in matters of the Spanish State. , in the style of the Cubans from Florida, in the USA. I’m sorry I have to say this, but Spain has a much larger market than just the UK. The economy in Spain is one of the best in Europe. Northern Europeans are buying more homes here and also countries like China and Russia amongst other countries are the biggest up-takers of the Golden visa way ahead of Brits. Americans, Canadians and Australians are also buying property here and lots more non EU countries too. Add in other EU countries who holiday in Spain and buy homes… There’s a lot more to Spain and the people who live here outside of the “Brit” hotspots. We’re glad we beat the Brexit deadline, and we know a few people who wished they’d done it sooner. Baz I'm in Falkirk but have an Irish passport. I intend to move to Spain in the next couple of years. What's the craic with healthcare? I'm on some meds. As an EU citizen do you have to pay for healthcare?
The public healthcare system is brilliant here. It’s free but some residents choose to top up with private healthcare. Depending on your entry requirements you might have to take out private healthcare for the first year but it depends on the visa so do check that out.
@@Argyll1000No you don’t with your Irish passport. Sorry, I meant to check the public health and the requirements to be entitled to that. We pay our tax and social security in Spain so we’re entitled to the Spanish healthcare.

"enemy countries" i found very sarcastic that Brits always try to hold the high moral grounds when London is literally the world's capital of drity money laundering. Not only Russians and Middle Eastern dirty money but you name it they have it.

That’s bound to hurt some developers ref purchases of all those new build apartments etc we’ve seen in some of your videos….
It's all about preventing Russian money-laundering. Realistically, how many Brits spend over 500k on a property in Spain? Hardly any.

The housing problem in Spain is simple. In the last 15 years, 7 million immigrants have arrived, and that has caused rents to explode.
around 10 million to the uk over the last 15 years

909 golden visas issued a year. Threes no way that low number has pushed rents up nationally
But 250.000 golden visas issued for the whole of spain .
The figure is closer to only 11k issued since 2013 to 3rd countries including the UK. China, Russia have the most, with numerous other countries.
Thats good news for the Spanish people who are finding it hard to get a property.

Hi Barry does that mean that more property over 500.000 euros will be available for Spanish people to buy
I think what they want to do is keep property affordable for Spanish people.
I think it's good that Sanchez has announced this.
Why should the mega rich get these perks?
It was because they are mega rich that they were welcome. Same as every country. Then it gets abused by launderers, so it gets stopped.

From what I see only about 5000 granted. Seems like Spain shooting themselves in the foot as other countries bring in money.
