What makes this more sad is that from the Founder Ymir's perspective, the passage of time in The Paths is SO much slower than it is in reality. What happens in The Paths happens near instantly in reality, so from her perspective she had been waiting for WAAAY longer than just 2,000 years.
15:35 If I remember correctly I read that the author said he knew in general terms what the ending of the story was going to be from the beginning. He knew the beginning, the ending, and had a rough idea of how it would get from point A to point B. Over time, as he wrote the different plot points throughout, he had to change some things to keep the story coherent, but the ending remained roughly the same. I imagine that's how that call back to the first episode was possible. btw after watching this episode I had a theory about Eren and Ymir (no spoilers). I wondered if Ymir somehow had a hand in "designing" Eren. Because if you think about it Eren's personality from a young age is pretty strange, pretty extreme, and it seems too much of a coincidence that of all people he would be the one to end in the "paths" with Ymir. His almost superhuman determination and will from such a young age, and his innate desire for freedom are peculiar to say the least (in the show several adult characters described that trait of young Eren as "scary"). Eren said in one of the episodes that what first made him truly angry as a kid, and first gave him his determination, was the realization that there were huge monsters outside trying to deprive him of his freedom. That idea alone made him so angry that it changed his life goals from that point on (that was really Eren's motivation, instead of exploring the outside world, like Armin), and he was just a small child at that point. And later in the show he said that when he was scared or had doubts, only the idea of taking freedom back could remove all fear and doubt from his mind. Then I think about Ymir's story: her whole life deprived of freedom (by what a small girl would perceive as huge monsters). Part of Ymir was always subservient to them, but we see in this episode that there was always a suppressed part of her that deeply desired to break free. And we know she could use her power to create pretty much anything with the "sand" of the paths. She created the colossal titans for the rumbling, and she brought Zeke back to life (she repaired his body) the same way. So I wonder if she also used her power to "design" Eren (his nature, his personality) in a similar manner, because she wanted a savior to get to the paths and set her free. Maybe it was Ymir herself the one who kickstarted the whole thing. Remember that it was explained earlier in the show that the Founding Titan can use Ymir's power to alter the nature of any and all the eldians (that's how Zeke was planning to make them all infertile, and that's how the Reiss family erased the memories of all the eldians inside the walls). Which means Ymir can create beings and alter the nature of the eldians (the subjects of Ymir). So I am thinking that maybe she "designed" a child, specifically the son of the person who had the Attack Titan (the only titan of the 9 who could disobey the royal family), and she implanted in him a superhuman desire to destroy his enemies in order to break free, an extraordinary desire to free his people (Ymir's desire). That is the whole point of the Attack Titan, as explained in episode 3x21: to fight for freedom. Grisha also mentioned in this season that the fact that it could disobey the royal family was on purpose. And maybe it is not only the Attack Titan's reason to exist, maybe it is also Eren's. That would explain why Eren was the only one who could use the Attack Titan's full power (showing memories of the future to other people at will 4:43): Eren was meant to be the Attack Titan from the beginning. The existence of both Eren and the Attack Titan had the same purpose (to free Ymir and her people), because both were born out of Ymir's desire for freedom. Remember when Mikasa first saw the Attack Titan in episode 7 or 8 of the first season, she said that she had the feeling that it embodied the rage of all humanity. What if it embodied the suppressed rage of Ymir instead? A few episodes ago in this season Eren told Mikasa that her lineage had been designed to protect the royal family (through a form of eugenics, I suppose), and that she at a young age subconsciously mistook Eren for the person she was supposed to protect, so she followed and protect Eren her whole life because it was her destiny. But what if it was the other way around? What if the reason Eren became so extremely violent as a small child to the point that he killed several adult men in order to free Mikasa from her captors, is that he subconsciously identified Mikasa with Ymir? He saw a small girl deprived of her freedom by "huge monsters", and his natural instinct (his natural desire to free Ymir, implanted in him by Ymir herself) kicked in. He stabbed Mikasa's kidnappers with the same rage that Ymir felt deep down for the people who enslaved her. If that was the case it would be ironic, because he would the one who was acting out his destiny, not Mikasa. I want to clarify that Ymir might not have done it consciously. We see her in this episode creating the colossal titans, but she is doing it almost on autopilot, she doesn't seem conscious, almost like she is in a nightmare. Yet she was still able to use her powers to create the titans. Maybe it was the same with Eren. She subconsciously created her own savior, the part of her that wanted to be free, the part that felt rage. That's what she instilled in Eren. And it was Eren the one who woke her up from her nightmare. If my theory is true, it would explain something that happens later in the show (that I won't get into here to avoid spoilers). It would also explain the meaning of the titles of the first episode and this one: "To you, in 2000 years" (To you, Eren, in 2000 years), and "From you, 2000 years ago" (From you, Ymir, 2000 years ago). It is a reference to the desire for freedom that Ymir "gave" to Eren, her own desire. 11:37 "The one who led me here, was it you? You have been waiting this whole time. For 2000 years... for someone." PS: Sorry for the essay, btw. This reaction reminded me of that theory I had.
what if eren is the one who created himself with ymir power? the concepts of the past and future are tricky to guess , because we saw a lot after this episode what eren can alter
eren is extra special because he is the only holder of both attack titan and founding titan that managed to utilise both their powers fully. their combined powers allowed this version of eren to send memories back in the past to attack titan holders.
Ymir's life imitates the Founder Ymir's life. She was wrongly accused of deception and was hunted and turned to a Titan. We knew the answer from season 2, it is insane the depth this show has.
Spoilers for final episode: Ymir was not wrongly accused; she did in fact let the pig free. That same desire for freedom is what manifested as Eren 2000 years later.

@@BunnyFlowers im talking bout the seedings, small teaser from that s2 ED, just how well arranged the things that tie to whole story, im not talking about ymir's sad story or the 'eating' if that what you meant
Still can’t believe the creator of the show started it when he was 23. For me this is the greatest show ever, nothing is more connected than this story
5:02 I explained how the memory thing works in the previous episode already. But there's two reasons we can deduct at this stage: 1) He's potentially the last Attack Titan holder, thus there's no one else who sends him memories except for himself, and only him sending memories to the past holders. 2) He also owns the Founding Titan. And although he could not make use of it because he does not have royal blood, we do know that Zeke does, and that he was able to use its powers when he touched Dina - and that the two wanted to touch when the time was right to go through with the euthanization plan (or so Zeke thought at least). So he has the founders powers as well as access to the paths themselves, which connects all titans and does not really progress time. This means that the Attack Titan's power may not actually be directly related to the Attack Titan, but also a combination of it and the Founding Titan that connects that past and the future. Maybe he even influenced Ymir to free the pig? After all, he and his titan are all about freedom, right? 10:42 She's creating all the titans, she makes all the titan transformations - every single one you've seen in the show, she does all the healing for the titan holders. 2000 years in our time, but in her realm, a literal eternity. 12:55 The walls were formed roughly 1900 years after her daughters. Eldia brutally dominated the world for that long before they eventually retreated to Paradis. The cannibalism is where the passing of the titans by eating comes from. 14:28 ... >_> I can't believe how many people don't understand Eren's plan until this, even though he talks for 3 season about wiping everyone out (starting in episode 2 of season 1). lol Think about how much pressure they put onto him, at just 15 years old, being the savior of humanity. Think about Armin constantly talking about how you have to become a monster to defeat monsters. Think about how Eren learned to rely on Levi squad, just to learn to rely only on himself. Think about what he said at the beach... This being his villain origin story became really obvious over the seasons.
10:04 This is so cool because this scene was shown in one of the murals in Season 2's ending credits. That season aired BEFORE this was shown in the manga. There was a huge gap between season 1 and 2. It's evident that season 1's popularity gave the author a lot more creative control in the anime going forward.
The Attack Titan is a part of Yimir that subconsciously resisted her fate of only ever being a slave. Eren is only a part of the 2000th year long line of Attack Titans that ultimately free Yimir from an eternity in the paths. Eren isn't really the "mastermind" behind everything. His part is a bootstrap paradox with him being pissed at his dad for forcing a future onto him, resulting in himself helping said future to happen. He did try to resist his future memories but ultimately saw that he couldn't change anything. He was desperate to find a different path but accepted his future at some point.
Eren answered your question. He was able to send his memories to his dad because Zeke brought him into his dad's memories. Eren sent his memories to his dad and Eren recieved his own futur memories through his dad's memories. The power of the Attack Titan is only activated when you are connected to the Paths, where time doesn't exist. But because Zeke brought Eren into his dad's memories, Eren saw he will send memories to his dad when he kissed Historia's hand. Basically, it's a loop. If Eren obtained the Founding Titan, it's because Zeke in the future brought Eren into his dad's memories, making Eren able to send his memories to his dad, memories that Eren obtained when he kissed Historia's hand. That's why Eren knew since he touched Historia that he had the power to influence past, and that he had a futur already set in stone. Because what happened, already happened... More than predestination, it's determinism. Every actions of every characters are sets in stone because they are the way they are. Basically Eren came here because Eren never changed from the begenning, and was always a slave to the desire he will have in the futur. He is a slave to his own will, to himself.
@jj4ever1387 Bro Eren litterally explained that in the begenning of the episode they are watching. And this is clearly not explained at all in the end. Stop being a liar just to give you a good consideration. They missed the info, that's all.
@@jj4ever1387 No, this is explained in memories of the future. It's just more show don't tell so you have to analyze what's happening and what's being said. Grisha even says "why don't you show me everything - what happens with Carla". He only learns of her fate when he meets up with young Eren. It's pretty obvious that Eren selectively sends specific memories back to influence the past holders, including himself. You gotta learn to read the subtext.
well if you said" the future is already set in stone" was a theory , that doesn't count as a spoiler . (SPOILER ALERT) i think what he means is that it is kinda a spoiler because in the movie when eren talks with armin with coordinate, eren explained that his action was set in stone and he cannot try to change it. (sasha last word and tybur said "because i was born in this world")
@@Iqbalytind Except that Eren having the Founding Titan is a loop. So since this reveal in the cave, it's already confirmed that future is set in stone. If future change the past so that this past become that said future, then there is only one future possible. It's pure logic when you know how time travel works. The concept of timelines doesn't Works with loop. By definition, a loop means there is only one future set in stone.
In thr episode in s3 when eren was kidnapped by historias dad and woke.up in the chapel cave his first words were " havent i been to this place before?"
eren can control what grisha sees and eren has power to fully see his own future because he ultimately got to use the full power of the founding titan, grisha got the founding but he never used it. With the founding titan, the past, present and future all exsists simultaneously. That's why eren can even control the past and mess with every eldian's memories. what? no?? Eren (4x20) : “Rather than letting someone steal my freedom, I'll steal theirs first.”✊🔥 King Floch = %99 real world, If eren or floch doesn’t do it then Marley and the world would do it ! floch go get 'em✊
There are some things I really like about what they did with the story here, some very nice touches. For example the fact that Ymir's story both confirms and refutes the narratives we heard of both Marley and the Eldians. For the Eldians Ymir was a savior who built bridges and roads, and created a prosperous civilization for humanity. For Marley Ymir was a monster who used her powers to genocide and enslave other nations. Here in this episode we see that she was neither and both at the same time. I like that, because those two narratives contradict each other, they are opposites, yet both are partially true and both are misleading (because they lack the other piece of the puzzle). I think that is one of the messages of the show about the narratives (political, religious, or any other type) that generate conflict among people. I also thought it was a nice detail that Ymir came in contact with that entity and became a titan in a tree similar to the one where Ilse's body was found. Ilse's body was put in a similar tree by a subject of Ymir who was a member of the eldian cult and put the body there in order to worship Ymir. He did it because Ilse looked like Ymir from the scouts, who as a child was given the false identity of the heir to the real Ymir. Personally I think it is elegant the way they did that. And they do something similar multiple times in the show. They do this thing where an identity or a role keeps showing up in different iterations. It repeats itself with variations, as a consequence of what came before, and it usually ends up full circle in some way or another.
So...Eldians *back then* were the horrible "devils" that Marley have said they were. I can understand from their perspective why they would be so terrified if in battle they came across a monstrosity like that. And why they grew to despise Eldians as a result considering the subjugation after. From their perspective, Ymir did in fact "make a deal with the devil" and brought ruin and tragedy among them for so long. From the other perspective though, Ymir did in fact come in contact with "something" and obtained power to help cultivate their land, build roads and buildings, etc. Crazy to think that both sides of the story was technically accurate, even the whole "Helos" to an extent as well! And to think this all started because of pigs....man...Ymir's life was so sad honestly. She's been a slave her whole life and she knows nothing but that. Even when she had all the power in the world, her mentality of a slave crippled her self-worth. 2000 years later and she's still has no free will of her own. The only time she has ever rebelled in a way was when she basically took the spear for Fritz. She could've regenerated and healed herself (like Fritz said, no way would she die that easily from a spear), so her dying instead is basically the shifter equivalent of suicide (like how Reiner lacked the will to live and thus wasn't healing himself). The Attack Titan's existence also shows us that there was most likely a part of Ymir that wanted to be free and rebel, but she didn't know how of her own free will because of the slave mentality.
Konnichiwa ladies!!! Now, first of all. Damn I just LOVE YOUR EYES Lia!!! Second, yer shocked about Eren?... well... Papa Grishia SAID (warned) Zeke about HOW TERRIBLE Eren's plan is. It shouldn't be a surprise. Season 1 Erwin HINTED us when ASKING Eren "WHO'S THE REAL ENEMY?"
Eren can affect memories because this is all happening during that instant Eren and Zeke made contact. Since Eren is touching royal blood he can use the full power of the founding titan without being under the vow of pacifism. He is the only persson who can use the Founding titan ability fully and combine it with the Attack Titan's power to go through memories and show Grisha and his past self memories of the past and future.
all of the manipulation of grisha and kruger by Eren only happens because Zeke takes Eren into the memories through the paths with the combined powers of the founder and attack titans connecting with the royal blood of zeke. It IS how it always happened, but it is ALSO because Eren influenced the previous attack titans during the infinite time and space of the paths while touching zeke. grisha and kruger could never have the same use of the time altering and memory access abilities because they never came into contact with a royal blood titan, or even any royal blooded humans at all while they were shifters. And the one time Grisha does come into contact is when he is killing the Reiss family and stealing the founder, after which he states that he saw everything, with the parallel of eren revealing he saw everything after kissing historia's hand. Though as i finished writing this, i did have the thought of if "Grisha is so adamant that Zeke must stop Eren, Why doesnt Grisha just not allow Eren to inherit his titans (which happens something like 24 hours after he tells Zeke he must stop Eren)" which i will need to think back on as we continue watching.
I would think that everyone in the attack titan chain had a choice, however inheriting the memories of the future titans would mess with their personalities and mandate that they pursue freedom (eren's version of freedom), much like the reiss family are bound by the vow, once you inherit the titan it will change you. Add on top of that that eren was there messing with their heads all along, the prophecy would be self fulfilling.
Other people’s positions on erens decision really confuses me. If Eren doesn’t do this, he and his people get slapped… He just chose his people over randos across the sea. Seems perfectly reasonable to me
evryone has an eren in themselves if the world is against their people then believe it or not ya will do the same!!! go against the order!! ya can cry and justify whatever way you do, make excuses etc before that breakimg point when you will be just A JAEGER
The reason grisha couldn't control the founding titan is because grisha didn't have it very long before he passed it on while Erin got to try all kinds of things with the power
its 100% control from its last inheritor , so basically the last inheritor will be the one who controls every subject of ymir even before eren dads got the power. and it needs titan with royal blood to utilize it.
The founding Titan is exactly what weve already seen through, Ymir, Freida, Eren. its not the massive spine thing. Theres not specific look to it. The spine thing just happens because it needs erens body to make everything happen.
I will go ahwad and explain Eren's dad not being able to see everything. The second Eren got control of the founder he had officially transended time, he exists as a being outside of time, just like ymir had been. Future Eren, the one that got control of the founder was then able to control memories passed down to other titan shifters. He showed Grisha exactly what he wanted to show to set Grisha down the desired path. He also did other things using his power but that would be spoilers because he talks about it later. This also explains how emotionless Eren was, this is due to other things as well. His head is permanently messed up because of the other titan memories he got from the others he had eaten. He also permanently sees thing from the perspective of past, present, and future, in other words he sees everything that has and ever will happen all at once. If you go back to episode one, past eren wakes up at that tree crying, saying he had felt like he had been in a really long dream. This is because that "dream" was Eren becoming timeless and he saw everything that has and ever will happen in said dream but he couldn't comprehend it. Isayama had planned this whole series out thoroughly and hid MANY easter eggs and forshadowing events in past seasons.
yeah basically the last inheritor of attack titan + founding titan is the one who controls subject of ymir past , no matter if you are royal blood with founding titan as long "the future inheritor of attack titan got control with founding titan" exists in future timeline, it means that past was already alter by the inheritor. BUT, i can actually be countered by what if grisha met with titan or shifter with royal blood and got founding titan power. but that just became paradox because eren wouldn't allow it.

For 2000 years... for someone."
PS: Sorry for the essay, btw. This reaction reminded me of that theory I had.

Ymir's life imitates the Founder Ymir's life. She was wrongly accused of deception and was hunted and turned to a Titan. We knew the answer from season 2, it is insane the depth this show has.
Spoilers for final episode:
Ymir was not wrongly accused; she did in fact let the pig free. That same desire for freedom is what manifested as Eren 2000 years later.

(not really spoilery, just based on the previous 2 episodes: )
moreso I'd say manifested as the attack titan. Grisha: 'the inheritor of the attack titan never obeyed anybody, all in order to fight against the king's self righteousness' or something
i think the reason why attack titan never obeyed anybody was because the last inheritor was EREN JAEGEMASTER and his memories of future leaps to the first inheritor

Btw 13 fingers were pointing at Ymir and she only lived for 13 years after gaining titan powers
14:28 ... >_>
I can't believe how many people don't understand Eren's plan until this, even though he talks for 3 season about wiping everyone out (starting in episode 2 of season 1). lol
Think about how much pressure they put onto him, at just 15 years old, being the savior of humanity. Think about Armin constantly talking about how you have to become a monster to defeat monsters. Think about how Eren learned to rely on Levi squad, just to learn to rely only on himself. Think about what he said at the beach... This being his villain origin story became really obvious over the seasons.
3) the reason why attack titan never obeyed or yielded to anybody because the last inheritor was Eren Jaegermaster
10:04 This is so cool because this scene was shown in one of the murals in Season 2's ending credits. That season aired BEFORE this was shown in the manga. There was a huge gap between season 1 and 2. It's evident that season 1's popularity gave the author a lot more creative control in the anime going forward.
Zeke's and Eren's plans are diametrically opposed. Zeke wanted all Eldians to die "peacefully". Eren wants everyone who isn't Eldian to die violently.
Nope, Eren wants who isn't Paradis Island Eldian to die horribly
Eren kills the most Eldians out of anyone in history lmao
I love when Eren says "ITS RUMBLING TIME!!" and rumbles over everyone.
There it is! the 80% savage 20% kind eren. :(
I see what you did there lol
The Attack Titan is a part of Yimir that subconsciously resisted her fate of only ever being a slave. Eren is only a part of the 2000th year long line of Attack Titans that ultimately free Yimir from an eternity in the paths. Eren isn't really the "mastermind" behind everything. His part is a bootstrap paradox with him being pissed at his dad for forcing a future onto him, resulting in himself helping said future to happen. He did try to resist his future memories but ultimately saw that he couldn't change anything. He was desperate to find a different path but accepted his future at some point.
The OST after Eren gains the power of the founder and transforms is INSANEEEE
Eren did the world’s biggest UNO reverse on everyone, even the viewers.
Eren is special because he was born into this world.
And yes im also watching Korean shows! Right now "Flower of evil" and its fantastic.
Bro the show reveals this at the end. I would classify this as a spoiler, the show has yet to explain this to them
@jj4ever1387 Bro Eren litterally explained that in the begenning of the episode they are watching.

Phewww I can't wait to see their reaction to who was right in the end 🤣
It repeats itself with variations, as a consequence of what came before, and it usually ends up full circle in some way or another.
i cried when i saw ymir's tears
I miss Courtney. I was so excited to see her reactions in season 4😓
All hail Our Devil Eren Jaeger 😂
In the first episode he said he was gonna "kill them all." He just wasn't talking about titans...
I think he was just so distraught at the thought of His wife being killed, he kinda went a little crazy by the end.
I literally said damn out loud when i saw your "chubby" dog

The reason grisha couldn't control the founding titan is because grisha didn't have it very long before he passed it on while Erin got to try all kinds of things with the power
its 100% control from its last inheritor , so basically the last inheritor will be the one who controls every subject of ymir even before eren dads got the power.
and it needs titan with royal blood to utilize it.

The founding Titan is exactly what weve already seen through, Ymir, Freida, Eren. its not the massive spine thing. Theres not specific look to it. The spine thing just happens because it needs erens body to make everything happen.
no you guys are wrong , the creator is beyond Genius 🗣
