@@Hidden.SufiRealities-smc I wouldn't say it was enough, I'd say it was more of a stimulus. Been working on a reprogramming old patterns myself, so it all makes a lot of sense.
There's a book called Hidden Time Wealth, and it talks about how using some secret techniques, you can overcome procrastination and accomplish anything in life. It's not just a bunch of empty promises; it's the real deal.
I would like to share what I do, in case someone finds it interesting: - The day before, plan what you want to do and be realsitic, leave room for failure (example: study 5 units, but doing 3 is fine) - Wake up at the same hour everyday. It doesn't have to be very early, just the same, to build a habit and a sense of purpose. - Identify what you like, and use it as a reward. If you are binge watching a series that you like very much, try to earn the joy of watching it. This is important so as to not fall in a pit of guilt and malaise, where nothing makes you happy. You can for example start by dedicating 30 min of work (maybe with a Pomodoro and relaxing music) and then playing 30 min of Animal Crossing. This makes you enjoy your relaxing times, and not feel guilty. As time goes by, you can maybe dedicate the whole morning to work and the evenings to yourself. - Set your space as you like. This is obvious, but very important. Have a shower and get dressed, don't be with your pijama all day, ventilate your room, do your bed, free your desk from papers and clothes and THEN sit down on your desk. Turn your phone off or put it in another room. And just start doing work. Just starting is a huge step because it breaks the ice, you find that it is not as horrible as your brain put it in advance, and just do as much as you can. Sitting in your chair instead of laying in bed makes it easier, trust me. - Find ways to enter the flow state: if your house is not quiet, try to put soft music in the background (Sunday Study music playlist by Thom Frank, Lo-Fi streaming, classical music...), ambience videos (rain, white noise, library ambience, coffee shop ambience, etc.) or even no talking asmr. If you use the music that you like, chances are that you will get distracted by singing the lyrics or by a catchy part of the song, but you do you. Hopefully someone finds any of these points worth reading. Keep going.
Interestingly , the little things that we do considering insignificant, affects our focus hugely. Systematic routine just as you have mentioned makes our day a lot better and satisfying. Thankyou !!

When quiting coffee, having a hot tea is a good substitute for the making of the coffee as well as having a warm drink. It is not a replacement for coffee, just the action. I found this very helpful when I was quitting coffee. I eventually went back to decaf, because if I miss 1 day of regular=headaches, I.Hate.Headaches! I have a 30 day challenge for you: replacing curse/cuss words with other descriptive and enhancing language that can be repeated to a child. My children are growing minimalists and I love sharing what I learn from you with them! Thanks for the videos, you and your wife are invaluable resources and acquaintances!!
BellaEssentialLiving hi internet friend 👋 just wanted to let you know - I know your pain with quitting coffee! For me, the headaches used to hit in 12 hours of no coffee...18 hours and it was a full-blown migraine! Question - what cuss word substitutions are you using? I need to quit that too💚
@@hindenburg2006I started cussing because of a very difficult time in my life that I thought I had no control over. I hated that so much in myself that I would catch myself starting to say it and would apologize if it came out or just stop mid-cuss. I relied on prayer and learning to just not speak: maybe you've heard: if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. There is also the proverb, a foolish man uttereth all his mind, but a wise man keepeth it in til afterward. Occasionally a "oh, poopies" or "boogers" comes out, but it's a far cry from cussing. Like everything, it takes practice. Thanks for asking 😊
The fact that I'm already into these habits (well, almost) reminds me how far I've come from the days when I didn't know what to do. No state is going to last forever and I'll face low points again, but the main thing is to get up again. Also, a tip: get into a flow of your work, don't mess with that flow. take breaks ofc but don't keep interrupting yourself again and again.
Just remember that it's a natural progression of character development. Every time you feel slowing down, you push yourself, accomplish and celebrate. One step at a time.
Seriously Matt... thanks for introducing me to the world of minimalism. You made it very accessible for someone like me because you’re a relatable, everyday guy and not someone that goes to the extreme and makes it look like a hippie movement. We need more people like you. You’ve also very much inspired a parody video I just released which is a parody on minimalism because it’s sad to see how the real message of the movement gets misinterpreted... (I hope you don’t mind me having used a few seconds of your footage, but you just had to be in it 🤭) Thanks for everything!

@Kayla F yes he is extremely creative, I dont know how he is able to insert something funny in a serious video. If you look for details you will find atleast one detail which is funny in all of his videos.
Am I the only one who got more productive due to quarantine? My first year in college (2019) I came back home, wasn't really exhausted but thought "now I'm home, time for free time". Now I am extremely productive because there is no such switch to "home, now free time", it's fluent and therefore I'm more like "I can even finish this now and may have more time tomorrow" but the next day I do the same. Inverted procrastination, and it feels good because I'm productive but also have at least one hour for gaming in the evening.
@@ΜόνικαΙακώβου I recommend you watch a video on procrastination made by Healthygamergg, it helps your frame your "problem" differently. Hope this helps!

I'm definitely going to try to incorporate them into my routine but the penguin though...and your expression was hilarious! Thank you for making such good content for a procrastinator such as myself!
I actually quit drinking coffee, and I realized that I had a ton of anxiety from the caffeine during those months. I'm alot calmer now, and I'm really productive.
Honestly, what helps me with procrastination while working from home for the past 8 months is: - Having Routine and pushing through that routine no matter what - Having a designated work space at home. And having 2 extra spots where you can work if you get tired of one spot. - Letting the people you work with know you’re doing serious work and schedule time with them later in the day. - Working 90 minutes, 30 minutes break sessions - Taking 2 mental health rest days a week. Most of my work is mentally intensive where I sit and have to concentrate and be mentally involved regularly. So if we take a rest day from a physical workout regimen, why don’t we give our minds a break too? I also stay away from social media and reading the news on those days. My mental health days are either Wednesday’s and Sundays or Saturday’s and Sundays.
The 90 minutes one is interesting. What would you do if: a) the work is less than 90 minutes? b) you just did 90 minutes but you think the work is almost done
ArtAway Great Question! Obviously I would recommend to use your intuition. I find that an hour in is when I’m reaching my peak of the project I work on. So the additional 30 minutes gives me a chance to finish things up. When I’m done with the project, though, then I’ll take a break. If I’m seeing after 90 minutes that I will finish the project in 5-15 minutes then I’ll see it through because I’m in that state of flow. What helps is setting a timer so you can keep track of time. For certain activities such as social media, I limit my time to those 90 minutes even if I haven’t gotten through everything I wanted to. So I would say, identify which activities are most income-producing and with them you work until that task is finished. Other tasks such as social media (which can cannibalise the time you would’ve spent on your income-producing activities) definitely limit them. What is it that you do?
@@helzikinz I do pomodoro and it is quite effective, but with pomodoro you'll almost never reach the flow state, so I'm interested in trying 90 minutes approach.
My motivation has been absolute s*it, this outbreak has helped me realize that I am more undisciplined and unmotivated then I previously thought. Sure I get motivated and do shit for one or two days, but then I just fall back off and burn out so easily. It's a God dam mess
We're all in this jay bee.. That's the positive thing about this lockdown.. Makes you sit down and comprehend what you're going through.. Like they always say, The first step to solve a problem is to realize its existence.

Matt: You must sit down and get to work
Me: watching this video instead of doing work

Honestly, what helps me with procrastination while working from home for the past 8 months is:
- Having Routine and pushing through that routine no matter what
- Having a designated work space at home. And having 2 extra spots where you can work if you get tired of one spot.
- Letting the people you work with know you’re doing serious work and schedule time with them later in the day.
- Working 90 minutes, 30 minutes break sessions
- Taking 2 mental health rest days a week.
What would you do if:
a) the work is less than 90 minutes?
b) you just did 90 minutes but you think the work is almost done

Same friend, today I just about had it with everything. Ran out to Target to buy a desk for my room, hoping to start tomorrow and the week ahead on a higher note.
I cannot recommend concentration music enough. There's free stuff on UA-cam or websites like Focus @ will. Start listening to that and tell yourself you'll do 15 minutes work and see what happens
Don't be so harsh on yourself, dude! The first step is to acknowledge it. Then you can make the changes! Start slowly and you'll get there.
