  • Based on the popular plugin Numerology, the Five12 Vector Sequencer is a unique take on Eurorack sequencing-balancing easy access to specific rhythms and melodies with complex generative behavior.
In this video, we use a small Eurorack system comprised of only an Erica Synths Bassline, Mutable Instrument Plaits, and Make Noise Mimeophon. By controlling these with the Vector Sequencer, we create everything from minimalistic grooves to interlocking melodic patterns and ratcheting rhythms.

Using mine to sequence shiiitloads of stuff.
    -Three synth voices
    -Bassdrum
    -Snare
    -Hi-hat
    -Miscallaneous drum parts
    -Polyphonic synth
    Absolute fucking powerhouse.
It's the sole reason for me being able to go from a 9U to a 6U without impacting my creative options.
    If anything it widened them.
Oh and customer support is beyond insane. The guy who made this has great response time and does frequent updates :)

Damn, those Plaits percussion sounds!! I was surprised at how fat and distorted you made it sound. Did the Mimeophone play any role in that?

The Mimeophone can really make things sound bigger and give them a feeling of space.

is there anything the cirklon can do that this can't, in a eurorack contex?

    I'm really loving z
Everything happening here. What's the mimeophon doing though is it just a hub for stereo output in the patch

    • @PerfectCircuit
      @PerfectCircuit  4 роки тому +3

The Mimeophon is just adding a little reverb and delay to the Plaits

Thanks for the demo, been considering this sequencer since I first saw a demo video from Superbooth or NAMM or wherever. Wish the expander wasn’t as deep, and cost less 😉

Really got to give credit to the demoer here for really showing off the gear. Some can be wanky and uninspired/uninspiring and I was hypnotized!

Cool music and I have been interested in that sequencer, but I still can’t figure out whether it’s too ‘programmy’ or not

Having the screens makes it feel more intuitive and less "programmy"

I use midi to control the Nord Drum. Works perfect! The new upgrade has 2 drum parts with 4 sub-parts/lanes. Super nice sequencer!

It has midi on 3.5mm trs jacks and the expander module adds regular 5 pin din midi

It has a plethora of midi. USB. Mini jack and standard jack on the expander. Heaps of midi.

Im done with modular. The information isn’t clear and I need to see something explained in person clearly for something like this....I’m tired of begging for info or being sent to a wordy forum for insiders only. I want to enjoy playing and creating and that just never happened with euro rack. I use semi modular and instruments like the Moog Matriarch that get me there in a much more rewarding experience kind of way and the sounds I achieve with or without all the connections and unclear concepts are much more satisfying and musical . Plus the iOS format offers much more important euro rack apps that make patching much more intuitive for me. Less is more for me . And I’m tired of feeling like I’m in a race which is what pure modular synths did to my head. And this stuff isn’t cheap either. Or that well built in most cases. Just my opinion after trying to get comfortable with this format for eight years but never really finding home or peace of mind or confidence that I fully understand what’s going on. It just not for me anymore life’s too complicated already.Peace christo 💀

My advice if you really wanna learn is to pick up vcvrack, it's a free euro rack emulation. Guys like Omri Cohen give free invaluable lessons on UA-cam about modules and techniques. You need not give up on endless possibilities.
There's a community of people who learn side by side with you, in the Vcvrack Facebook group and Vcvrack community forum (community.vcvrack.com/). I don't have a eurorack, but I have a semi modular which I use with Vcvrack, and I've learned so much this year from experimenting and learning from the community. If you have questions ask me at curatortems[at]Gmail[dot]com, I'm definitely willing to help answer or can point you to helpful resources. PS: i encoded the email so it doesn't get scraped.

Modular isn't for everybody but I don't think its fair to critique the community at large. I've found most people to be really helpful and supportive and lacking a lot of the toxicity that other communities in electronic music have. It's super expensive, and I don't think that a lot of people have a very healthy attitude towards acquiring new modules. There's lots of people with massive systems making very little music. It is definitely a pissing contest for rich dads a lot of the time. I have however been lucky to meet people who've invested in small systems because it was important to them and learned those systems inside out and these people usually aren't contributing to forums or making videos. Usually just playing a weird show here and there.
i was lucky enough to have a well paid job for a period of time, so I built a small system. One 7U Make Noise case. It was pricey and I often went hungry. I haven't bought a new module in 18 months or so. I've toured with it twice and I'm now self employed and super super broke always. I'm still finding new things to do with it all the time though. It really clicked with me. It's meditative and weird and exploratory in a way most instruments aren't. Sure its expensive, but I know a lot of professional musicians who invested heavily in their main instrument. It's not uncommon for a jazz or classical or rock musician to have spent thousands and thousands of euros or dollars on their main instrument and then make very very little money over their career. You love this instrument and you get to know it inside out though. It becomes as much an extension of your creativity as any other part of you.
You're probably just a visual person who benefits from videos more than written descriptions. Mylarmelodies and DivKid can be really good examples of nice enthusiastic clear modular videos. If you still have them maybe just explore one or two modules for a couple of weeks at a time. I wouldn't give up, Even after 8 years, the community and the industry has changed a lot in that time. It will continue to evolve. All aboard. Choo choo. I don't know why I felt the need to write this comment. Maybe to be somewhat encouraging, and also maybe to add a different voice to the conversation. If you've only encountered capitalist dads and gatekeeping tech bros on your joruney so far, maybe this comment might be something novel.

Modular is very much trial and error, and managing budget and expectations. After all they're just legoblocks that can do anything or nothing. It's incredibly hard to patch something that sounds better than a PC VST. But the quest for these patches could / can be great fun.
