@Adam McMillin While I'm sure you have found a solution by now, this may help the next person. I couldn't use the stock hip belt straps on my talon 33 (strange as the ones on my talon 22 fit fine with about 2" of excess strap per side). I instead bought some 1" webbing and new clip and replaced the stock strap. Works perfect now

Osprey do great packs . If u can keep your weight for the three main items of backpack , sleeping bag /quilt and tent as close to 3kg or under that's a great start , the stuff will also be smaller and fit on in your pack easier:) often some great deals on ebay especially for tents ⛺ :)

New sub here Paul. Really like your straightforward presentation. So many you tubers are trying to be master film makers. You focus on the content and I like that. Suggestion ; pack the hat and gloves nearer the top. They can increase comfort on short stops or off/on during a walk where waterproofs or jacket aren't yet needed. Obviously less needed in hot weather. Bladder has already been mentioned. Going abroad ? Airport security get a bit touchy about empty bottles.....so make sure they're not in your pack but visible out on the tray with your liquids bag. For real penny pinchers a roll up water bottle can more easily be refilled in the toilets sink after clearing security. It's always drinkable (in Europe ) and usually tasteless. Otherwise the airport bar are legally obliged to offer free drinking water in the UK just like any other pub. Happy travels everyone. John.

My sleeping bag (RAB Ascent 900) seems to fill up half the bag on its own, even pulled down in a compression sac as far as I'll dare. I guess it's a bulky bag or I'm a wimp pulling on the straps :) I was already impressed what you got in the 48!

you could switch out the pack for a Montane Trailblazer 30 which has an amazing stretch pocket as well, and it would save you 110g. For summer camping you could get away with having a pub meal before going up a mountain and camping and just bring snack bars for breakfast to save the weight of the stove and food. Amazing vids never the less, keep it up!

I’ve not been backpacking for years Paul so just sorting out some modern kit. Interested to know why you use the alcohol stove over a gas stove , say a rocket burner which is pretty light? I remember I stopped using one as they messed up my pans and I had a leak once which left all my kit stinking of fuel. I liked the speed of gas, especially when it’s cold. So just a thought, perhaps in kit reviews or load outs, perhaps explain why one tent over another, or one jacket over another, as it helps understand the logic of why you’ve taken it. Sorry, as an ex soldier I like to know the details. Loving all your videos tho, better than 99.9% on the tv and certainly relaxing after a day at work! Thanks

I'd bet you could shave some weight by ditching the following.
    1) Headlamp case and extra headlamp
    2) One of your water bottles. With the Sawyer bag, bladder and a single 2L plastic bottle you're well covered.
    3) large ziplocks, switch for smaller ones or none.
    Unknown
Micro toothpaste. Earplugs dont need a case really. First aid kit looks fairly beefy for a single night.
All in all great job if looking to go light.

If you don’t have a pack at all that’s true ultra light, but does that mean you’re just going for a walk in the woods as opposed to a hike in the woods?

Searched Talon 44 and your video popped up. Wanted to see what folks say about the talon as I have the 22,33&44 had them absolutely years. They are great packs and one of the lighter ones from osprey I think. Amazing what fits in the 33. Have they changed over the years or pretty much the same? I think I'll try one of mine more often. Did you use pack liner? I'm typing as it runs in background not listening to every word lol

Nicely done Paul, I used a Talon 33 for years for one nighters, no problem at all.
Replace the water bottles with cleaned out 500ml Coke bottles, same thread as the Sawyers filter then use the filter like a straw, can even ditch the squeeze bag.
The water bladder is decent, I've got one of them too. 👍🏼

What I do is unscrew my filter and wrap the squeeze bag around it and it slots in the front pocket better :)

    • @WalkWithWallace
      @WalkWithWallace 5 років тому

@@tictachikes6156 that's a good idea too. I just find the squeeze bag a pain, so don't bother with it.

@frenchie jones that's useful to know, I thought they had a wider neck than Coke bottles.

Hello Paul. Can I ask where you purchase your fuel for your stove from? Just purchased something similar but unsure where best and cheapest place to go for alcohol fuel for the stove.
    Thanks

    Hey Paul
how is your rucksack when it full and the water bladder full? I found in my Kestrel 48 that the full water bladder takes some of the inner volume of the bag

    Hi Paul.
You didn't get the dimensions measured for your fully packed Osprey Talon 33?
It looks great with everything in it. Thing being will it pass Carry on Luggage (Light) on the Airplane? Making saving instead of paying standard prices for Check in Luggage.
Would you recommend this backpack for a minimalist camp with a Soulo in mind?
    It's worth an investment right?

good show.backpack size is confussing.1 your talon 33 looks very big.2 other 30/34 backpacks can look quite small.I took my noname 25L to the shops,4L milk a loaf of bread. Not really a lot of room for anything else, surprized as my thinking was my shopping wasnt much more than 8L but there sure wernt 17L to spare in my rucksack.Liking the look of the talon 33 but i think they stopped making them.A 30L decathlon model caught my eye,but it looks like a small 30L.Are some backpacks real stretchy and can expand 5+L more than advertized ? cheers.

Mmm… that’s not merely enough water for half a day. You didn’t even filled the water bag ! Please, don’t tell me you use the filter… 😵‍💫
Nor even enough food. You should think that in cold weather you eat much more.
That’s not for real life. Just theories 🤣🤣🤣

i have some herniated disc problems, nothing major but problematic, i think i will gonna buy this for a short treking and camping trip (2 km), i intend not to surpass 6kg, my tent is 1.3 kg, sleeping bag is 1.2 kg, the sleeping pad is 500grams, camera in almost 1kg lol, and the rest just food, oh yes and the bag witch is 1kg .... I am kinda contrained, hope this bag will do the job well. I already have a osprey talon 11 wich somehow i managed to fit everithing but you can imagine how bulgy that thing was after i cremed all in and on the exterior lol lol

Love Osprey kit Paul but have also just bought a Montane Halogen 33 as well. Must admit I prefer Platypus Hydration to the Osprey one though. I've just done the same packing exercise for my Pyrenees trip, don't have to carry food or a tent etc as it's a catered trip but s/bag etc for 4 days. Got all in under 10kgs including 2ltrs of water into a Osprey Stratos 36.
