this video helped so much with getting the 10 stars, I finally got it. On a save file of 5 clears so I couldn't risk the use of special weapons. For anyone who sees this and don't have enough clears to use special weapons (need a minimum of 5 to attempt this anyway) once you get to the otherworld Alchemilla hospital go straight to the basement for the hammer and get the melee kills with that. I also recommend the first save at the Antique shop otherworld, it isn't TOO difficult to get there as long as you survive the school. then try and survive until the end of the game for save #2 I was originally going to save before the Lizard but the run was going pretty bad so I didn't care if I died...and it ended up being the 10 star run with a time of 1 hour 17 mins lol. Really nice job getting it in 57 mins though, very well played. And thank you for the help.
2023 update: a “melee kill” will be determined by the counter if you stomp on a downed enemy, while a shooting kill is earned. from shooting a downed enemy to death, you earn a shooting kill. i wouldn’t waste time on using melee weapons personally, i use bullet adjust and the pistol throughout most the run remember: only go for “melee kills” until you pick up the rifle, then you’ll want to go for shooting kills the rest of the game
I remember going through the first three games, combing them for anything I missed. Mainly story related notes or what have you (because Twin Perfect didn't exist yet) and artistry I might have missed. Beating each game for the first time was a grind. After that, they were very easy to go back to.
This is amazing. I tried previously to get 10 stars, but I gave up. I see how you leave the light off for large areas of the game. I have never tried that. I'm going to try it, and some of your other ideas. Thanks for posting it!
I swear to god these monsters in SH1 are propably the most disturbing things that I saw in my whole life. Also the atmosphere is just perfect for horror game.
"WHY?! What is keeping that child alive?!" I mean... at 8:15 - how are you still alive after taking so much damage? I am flasing in red after getting hit 2 times, and you just pouched your 5th or 6th. What's the secret?
Those stats are insane. 57 minutes and over 200 kills. Great run. I just got the 10 Star rank with 116 kills by fighting and 101 by shooting in 127 minutes. I've received gold in these categories before but I was using the shotgun too much. As soon as a stopped using it I got gold in shooting style every time. I don't know why the shotgun counts as "no aim" aka missed shots. Is this an error in the programing or did team silent intentionally do that? I seems like it would be a mistake because when I use the shotgun I aim and I hit my target.
To be fair, you can hit 2-3 enemies at the same time if you use the shot gun. So if you’re killing 1 monster with the shot gun, where are the remaining parts of the shotgun bullet hitting? Hence using the shotgun counts against you in the shooting style by increasing your no-aim shots. The only time you should use the shotgun is in the school (demon children) and the giant lizard boss in the school basement. After that, ONLY use the handgun or the rifle.
great gameplay of 1 of my all time favs! a few ?'s though: your video is 82 minutes long and it skips the fight w/cybil , so how did u beat the game in 57 minutes? also, will using the alien blaster or auto-aim or the bullet multiplier feature in extra options prevent you from getting 10 stars? please respond, i've beaten this game many times in the past 16yrs. but never got more than 3 stars.
I'm not "I'll do it later" but I think I can answer most of your questions :) 57 minutes is the IGT (in-game time), it has nothing to do with the real time. The game doesn't calculate in real time, as far as I know the timer is based on frames in SH1. Loading times also don't count. Bullet multiplier and auto-aim can be used. Well, the Hyper Blaster theoretically can be used a limited number of times, depending on some other things.. (which are too complicated to explain in short because I'd need to dive into formulas) but it has two negative factors: counting as missed shots + using special weapons. So the chances are pretty high that you'll mess up your ranking. I wouldn't bother with it.
I shouldn’t be the only one that wonders why he took many hits on Hard diffculty before pausing or checking on his health? Is it worth the risk of everything he just did to just randomly die at one point because he refused to stop to check and heal? And why use two First Aid Kits even when health was green?
@@SilentHillMyHome Yes you can because the in-game timer stops while loading. It's the same no matter if played on console hardware or on an emulator. This run would look the same on a PS1 with the same result, minus longer loading times.
+Arianna Torres In SH1 you can use bonus weapons quite a bit before your rank is punished. IIRC you can swing the katana 45 times before the rank drops. I opted to use the katana as it is the best for melee kills and the hyperblaster is garbage.
+7 day survivor You're actually wrong. Rank deduction works a bit different in SH1 than it does in SH3 where using special weapons immediately lowers your rank. You CAN use special weapons in SH1 and still get 10 stars. How often you can attack with a special weapon depends on how often you have cleared the game. There's a formula for this in the official Japanese guide. If you want to use his ranking as an example: Since he cleared the game 16 times, he can attack with the Katana 95 times, without any penalty. Although I'm not sure yet whether it uses the new/current game clear number or the previous one (would be 15 in this case). If it's 15, he can use the Katana (or any other special weapon) 90 times.
***** It's not Japan exclusive.. I have the PAL version and it works pretty well. It's not about how many monsters you kill but how often you attack or swing, at least with the Katana. It's about the same for the Chainsaw, I think. But I noticed a difference with the Rock Drill. You still have the same amount of attacks because it's based on the formula, but the "attack" cycle of the Rock Drill seems to be somehow different, because I got penalized before I reached my attack number. You probably were penalized because of something different.. How many fighting/shooting kills did you have? The formula for that is quite complex and a slight change may have resulted in not getting the full score in that category.

Hi does anybody know the amount of missed shots you are allowed to get and still get gold rank? Also is it necessary to clear with al the endings? for example I beat the game twice with the good ending. 2 with good + and 1 with the UFO. In my next run will I be able to get 10 stars?
Just don't use the shotgun on anything other than the lizard monster in the school and you should be fine. When I used the shotgun my "no aim" missed shots would be crazy, like 30%. When I stopped it went down to 3%. Using the Rifle helps with accuracy. Just make sure you find all the ammo you need. I killed Sameal, the last boss, with my last round of Rifle ammo. There is a package of Rifle ammo past the Motel right before you go to the light house. Make sure you grab that. As for the rest if you are trying to get the green hyper blaster you probably need all 4 endings. Or so I've heard.

The stat makes no sense as I did testing and confirmed that a rifle shot that hit and killed a target counted as a "no aiming shot". As for the endings what I know is you need 5 game clears to get a gold for it and you need 5/6 bonus items unlocked on that clear file to collect.
There's not really a definite answer on how many missed shots are allowed, since it depends on how many short, middle and long-range shots you got. The formula to that is a bit complex and there's some invisible calculation going on in the background. But all 4 categories are connected so it's not unusual that shooting an enemy from long range for example, effects the 3 other categories as well.
DerGraueFuchs That's not true. You don't have to ready your weapon to be in "over the shoulder" view. You have to go into options and change the appropriate setting to "self view". That's how it works on my early North American version anyway. In fact...my early North American version is such an early edition that it only allows me x5 bullet multiplier. I think it also has "extra clunky" controls compared to later editions. I need to contact Konami and ask them about changes made to the game since its original introduction. I got it when I was in my early 20s back in 2000 and only recently achieved a 10 star rank. I'm 42 now, by the way.

I can't help but to notice how much cleaner this game runs on pc compared to the ps1 version(assuming this is on an emulator).
It’s definitely an emulator. You can’t beat SH1 under 1 hr on the original PS1 or the 2.

You need to have 5 game clears for 10 stars. This means you can clear the game 4 times so your 5th can be your 10 stars run.
you need first the 5 finals, and return to complete the game for 6th time whit the final good+

Inventory -> Options -> Press L2 + R2 for extra options. There's an option for View Mode towards the bottom. Set it to "Self View". Press L2 in game.
