Alec and Lydia weren't getting married because Lydia even liked him in the first point. they were doing It because they felt like It was their duty to their families and to everything they stan as shadow hunters. Lydia even had said previously that she did have someone she loved but he died. They could have easily made Lydia be that girl that throws a fit and goes crazy after Alec does that. However, they decided against that. Lydia chose to tell Alec to have his big love. Lydia was left at the alter, and her groom kissed someone else. Have you seen Alec's mom's reaction? I think Lydia would have suffered some blacklash from this because of the shadowhunter world is homophobic and racist. That's just my personal opinion. BTW I think Lydia knew that Alec was gay, but chose accept his marriage proposal. She did It to help him. I still stan Lydia. She helped Alec in many ways. Please do not take this as attack on you. I was just trying to explain my reasons to you on why I stan Lydia.

Very late reply but this was me too. I had never even heard of the show or the books but I happened to see the wedding clip on UA-cam, and even without knowing the characters or the plot I was really moved by the whole scene, to the point where I actually watched the show. The Malec parts were the only reason I stuck with the show from start to finish. They were just perfect. Every so often I will rewatch the series but I honestly only care about Magnus and Alec... lol

The cast got better at acting over time but all I thought of when I first watched the episode at 29:01 was how it had to be Valentine and Magnus that switched bodies because honestly only Harry and Valentine's actor could pull it off (which they did AMAZINGLY). They were leagues above in acting ability compared to the rest.
There are some scenes where I have to wonder how many takes it took them to get it without breaking into laughter... The "Help me... I need your strength" scene is one of them.
