This and the viz price increase is very demotivating for manga collectors.
I'm in Canada and picked up volume 12 of Chainsaw Man today and it's at the new Canadian price point of 15.99 😢
Considering that USD inflation is around 20%, a 20% price increase means that prices actually stay the same year over year. Inflation is only bad if you are poor or ignorant when it comes to investing. If you want to beat inflation by an absurd amount, learn about bitcoin.
@@metalunderground2020Same here, I picked it up yesterday. Prices in Canada are ridiculous now because of the increase. Where I am it comes out to 16.70 or so because tax.

Yup when it takes 4years for ppl to finally get a preorder they made in 2019 and boxes arrive broken w no protection and over 150 upcharge 😂 crunchyroll is way over its head w this one. They struggle fulfilling merch as it is. Now they want to take on rightstufs customers

Lucky for me I'm no longer an anime fan or manga collector. I'm trying to sell all my manga at the moment. I'm just wasting space and my morgage rate and gas is increasing. Anime and manga just dont interest me anymore. Just wanna move on. I get more satisfaction just reading regular books. Besides I fn hate Crunchyroll. For all you anime fans I suggest you pirate like crazy. Dont support this company

Does CR not understand that sales and discounts bring in more profit from more stock sold, which is why RSA is so popular? If they don't keep the sales and discounts, then what was the point of acquiring RSA? Why would consumers like us buy from them at all then as opposed to Amazon or B&N?

You know how hard it is to get nerds (esp nerds who buy shit like blu-rays) to agree on something but nah, let’s get rid of all that goodwill and positive affiliation they’ve built and earned over the years because everything has to be branded to CR - the name with infinitely less positive affiliation and an online store that pales in comparison on multiple fronts. Subsidiaries are a thing you know…

This is really upsetting as both a collector and an Iowan. I have a ton of open orders that I don't think will be filled in by then!

Now would be the time to create a list full of RightStuf alternatives for North American and other International customers. "BuyAnime" and "Robert's Anime Corner Store" are examples that come to mind and can definitely be added to that list. Sadly, "Robert's Anime Corner Store" doesn't accept PayPal as a method of payment. The variety that "BuyAnime" has to offer is still very limited at this time.😢
I'll assume that non-Crunchyroll-items (from e.g. Sentai Filmworks, Discotek Media, etc.) will be excluded and delisted from their catalog in the near future. I wonder if international customers (who don't live in North America) will still be able to order e.g. Region A Blu Rays. What is an absolute certainty is the fact that RightStuf accounts, that don't originate from the US or Canada, will not be migrated to Crunchyroll.
My RightStuf account is definitely going to get terminated very soon, as it's neither a US nor a Canadian account.
I highly doubt Sony/Crunchyroll will continue level of discounts that Rightstuf previously offered. Crunchyroll store is also such a pain to navigate compared to Rightstuf. Not thrilled with this news at all.
Thank you for making this video and breaking down everything. You said it better in what I was thinking when I heard the news. Am sad that Rightstuf proper is closing but remaining hopeful that is works out for us readers.

Prices for the same products are higher for CR. Good odds that they won’t respect Rightstuf’s pricing standards. Is what it is.
When RightStuf sold out to Crunchyroll I said I was disappointed, and it was a bad move for them. I would say I feel bad for them, but that's what happens when you make a deal with the devil...
I really hope they don't take away the discounts, that's the only thing that gets me to order online.
No more book depo, no more rightstuff, is this the calling for me to stop collecting and go all digital . . .
Crunchyroll’s streaming service is a joke and I’ve never bought from their online store, but i hope that they carry over the great packaging and customer service that I’ve always had with right stuf.

I made a list of all my open orders/pre-orders just incase they decide not to carry over existing orders. I do hope they give us a way to convert over without having to re-order everything.

This is such a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I also wonder about the people who have the RS membership and if that will be moved to CR.
I'm nervous about the Dirty Pair Kickstarter that is being fulfilled by rightstuf.
I knew this merge with Crunchyroll was going to be a terrible idea.
This change could even affect things further than just the US. In the UK, the anime distributor Anime Limited often actually reprints other regions releases. So the vast majority of their Gundam prints have been the ones RightStuf has released a little bit earlier just recoded for UK Blu-ray encoding. However, Crunchyroll now owns Funimation UK which was previously Manga UK so I'm curious if these sort of releases are going to change where Crunchyroll themselves will just release them here instead (which would annoyingly change the packaging) which if they do, would they just start to move to be multi-region releases or possibly region free instead? Which I think gets around the UK ratings system we have in the UK which costs a good amount just to get something rated for a specifically UK release.
Also kinda sad to hear Viz are putting their prices up too. I've always been quite vocal about wanting Viz to pick licenses up because they're generally more affordable than the other publishers but a 20% increase essentially just puts them on par with Kodansha, Yen Press and Seven Seas
They also did a sizeable sale based around Black Friday as well. I'm ticked because I just reupped my Got Anime membership in July. Had to know something was up though when customer service phone support disappeared, followed by finding out GA was removed from the site after they stopped taking new or renewed subs.
My hope is that they're not dumb enough to shut down the warehouse in Grimes. You would think that would stay open yet, otherwise distribution will go to crap. (And the TRSI warehouse gnomes could certainly teach the Crunchy people in LA how to package better. I've received my share of crushed things from Crunchy that I needed to get replacements on.)

I’ve already received my final order from right stuf. Now I have to look for another anime provider. So pound sand crunchyroll, my 3 decades of loyalty to right stuf will not transfer.

I'm an Iowan too. I feel like Rightstuf is the corner stone of our Otaku culture here. When I bought from them I knew that a bit of it was going back to my people.
This shit is still hitting me.
Made three rather hefty purchases just in the last two months just out of hating to see them go.
See nothing good coming out of this but bogus price hikes poor shipping and banning of certain titles due to agenda BS.
Manga really took off in america with target, wal-mart and five below having manga sections now. Even cracker barrel sells disney manga of all places! The higher prices and removing the free with ads episodes from Crunchyroll are hurting it. Worse they are wounds made by the companies themselves!
Sad because I use to buy anime blu rays from them every so often.
I loved the way they packaged things.
Not sure if Crunchyroll will have that same level of care and commitment to quality.

Luckily I purchase everything from Barnes and Noble in person. Anything old or for example an entire collection or lot of manga I get from eBay.

Absolutely disheartening. Granted, I had a feeling something like this was going to happen after Shawne Kleckner stepped down last year. I’m happy I got everything I wanted before we got this news and I was happy I got to use a coupon for my pre-order for the collector’s edition of Eva 3+1. That blu-ray and the Urusei Yatsura TV Set Vol. 3 are going to be last things I buy from Right Stuf (outside of the kickstarter blu-ray set for the 80’s Dirty Pair and some out of stock manga). I feel so angry and sad.🤬😢
Here’s the thing, exclusives such as Lycoris Recoil and Fate Grand Carnival. what will happen to those physical releases that were only exclusive to RightStuffAnime?

I built my manga collection frm 14vols to 260vols in just under a year buying from them. I am glad I participated in one birthday sale. Was looking forward to the Black friday and Christmas sale and even the birthday sale next year but OH WELLLLL. Got Anime membership only gets to last me 4 months :(
Should be worth noting that Crunchyroll not too long ago was bought out by Sony.

This sucks. Anyone know alternatives where you can order something even if it's out of stock? That was my favorite part. Maybe under CR it'll start off okay, but it'll slowly get worse and worse. Ugh.
They couldn't have made it more transparently obvious that they bought out RightStuf just to kill their competition. This type of thing shouldn't be legal. I haven't used RS for a few years, but this is bad news for collectors no matter how you slice it. First Book Depository, now this... sucks.

The prices of manga at my local bookstore are becoming an insult to intelligence....just now when people stared finding out about Junji Ito,other real art mangas,they,in agreement up the prices of manga everywhere. No sense at all.
This is just a horrible week to be a manga reader. The hits just keep coming.
Regarding IST, I have bought omnis from them. My biggest issue with them is they don't keep singles in stock. Like rn, I want to buy all volumes of Ooku but they just don't have all of them available.
Crazy I only bought from them 3x, but I loved there service. Hopefully the rebrand is a good thing... maybe they'll change the store to CrunchyStuff? 🤣

It makes sense, they own both companies, why run multiple stores. From a marketing standpoint, while RightStuf is the better store, they want to promote their streaming service, so the better plan of action is merging it into the Crunchyroll store, or depending on which ecommerce is run better, rebranding the RightStuf store as the Crunchyroll store.
As a client who recently started to use RightStuf Anime I can only hope that RightStuf Anime won't become WrongStuf Anime
So are there any other alternatives to rightstuf besides Amazon?
I'm using B&N for manga, 10% discount and stamps toward additional savings (and free shipping). Ya, I was iffy at first, but I bit the bullet. At this point I'm glad FOTNS is mostly done, as it will only be five volumes or so at the increased price.

Spines.. example , ive got blue lock 1-10 with kaze logo und 11-12 with crunchyroll logo and it looks terrible

I swear to god if Crunchyroll fucks up the anime physical media market I'm gonna do my best to make sure they go out of business. The greatest anti-PR campaign of all time.
