    In this video I go over some carburetor basics on the 1997-1999 Kawasaki STX1100 Jet Ski with CDK2 carbs.
    This is not an in-depth tutorial but rather just a quick look at some of the steps I took to get my carbs in working order.

    Subscribed.. definitely enjoy your content. What are the starting point for the turn outs on low and high speed? Are they the general 1 & 1/2 high and 1/4 low? I’m stock. Just converted from the cdcv. Looking forward to the improved dependability for sure. Thanks!

      I'll have to double check, I don't remember off the top of my head. I'll look in the manual and let you know. Yeah I run mine just a tad bit rich once everything heats up it actually leans itself out just a little bit. The CDK two carbs are so much easier to tune.

      Here are the factory specs for CDKII:
      High speed needle: 1 1/8 +/- 1/4
      Low speed 1 +/- 1/4
      Make sure to *lightly* seat the needle then adjust. Note that these are almost impossible to adjust while mounted to the ski..you should also make sure the needles are all in perfect shape and replace any that are pitted or bent

    Hey great video! I’m having an issue with my ‘97 STX 1100 where it starts and dies immediately. I can’t figure it out because I already rebuilt the carbs and it has good spark

      So if it’s 97 it should have the CDK2. Did you check the pop off pressure? Did you confirm fuel pressure? Did you check the fuel tank vent line and ensure no blockages in any of the feed or return lines? Did you verify reed valves are not damaged? Check the carb base gasket and the crossover tube? If you fill a spray bottle with 2-stroke oil mixed with gasoline and squirt it into the carbs does the ski stay running?

    Hey jd so the 98 it’s going good it runs I put new spark plugs and took down the carburetor and clean it but for some reason it like stops giving gas and tries to shoot off

    What pop off do you recommend for these carbs with aftermarket flame arrestor?
    Blowsion tornado Flame arrestors to be specific

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  2 місяці тому +1

      I have no clue specifically but generally if you are reducing the intake restriction you will have to lower the pop off pressure...also jet sizing would be a consideration and of course ensure you're not running too lean with that extra air flow

      @@JDsWaterWorld I have them mounted on a ported and 180compression 750sx, Dual Keihins 40 (2jet) Carbs, with the tornado flame arrestors, just got my pop-off set at 20psi down from 30psi. Jetting L80/H160, based off recommendations. so we will see how this setup works out 🤙🏻
      I may lower my High jets to 130 from 160, but we will see!

    On the arm does that affect the pop off and that thin long gasket in the middle of the carb that’s under the top assembly do I have to install that gasket in there ?

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  4 місяці тому

      Here is a schematic of the carb. Make sure every single gasket, seal, check valve, and o ring is in place or it won’t work correctly:

    What if the pop off pressures are all good, but there’s still a low end rpm bog?

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  19 днів тому

      Did you test the fuel pressure from the pump and replace the little plastic check valve flaps? And did you verify the correct mixture? Likely is related to mixture, fuel pressure, or partial blockage in one of the fuel circuits. Just keep checking and eventually you will find the culprit

      @@JDsWaterWorld I thought the only fuel pumps were the ones build in to the carbs, is there another one? The thing on top of the fuel tank?

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  19 днів тому

      There is a main pump at the end of the rail- it's rebuildable. You need to check the fuel pressure at the pump outlet before it's distributed to each carb

      @@JDsWaterWorld I’ve only seen the two pumps on the outside carbs though, and I did rebuild them, unless it’s small, I guess I’ve never noticed. Also I will check the pop off closely this time.
      Thanks

    funny how everyone want a free diagnosis on how-to vids like this but will never cough up the dough for a mechanic or spend the time required to learn how to fix it themselves
