My apologies that this video was not out last week, which I said it would in the Steroids reaction. Just had stuff come up unexpectedly which interfered with recording and editing.
Thank you all for your continued support, words cannot sum up how truly appreciative I am :)

17:12 yeah i cried to this too, just the lines "Last night, three thirty in the morning, Death on my front porch
Can feel him itching to take me with him, hail Death, fuck you waiting for?
Like a question no one mention, he turns around, hands me his weapon
He slurs, "use at your discretion, it's been a pleasure, Stefan" cant belive the song till this day, the instrumentals sound so down and defeated in a way it feels like suicide won

its the line “All the nights I don't die for you
Wouldn't believe how many nights I ain't died for you” for me theres been so many times i was ready to do it but i thought about the person i loved the most being my girlfriend and my dad

    listening to On GP: :)
reading the lyrics to On GP: :(
also, the On GP melody sounds a lot like an interpolation of the standard Nokia ringtone at half tempo. Listen to them side by side and you will hear it. "Phone ring too long, I'm probably gone, ringtone jingle my swan song."
someone's calling and he's not picking up because...he's not there. Powerful stuff...

TPTB is definitely a lot to digest, not as "catchy" as other projects but it's definitely a magnum opus for Death Grips as a whole, it's their most high effort release to date imo.

The end of Big Dipper is Zach hill doing a solo on electric drums, all of which are different Björk vocals. (Well, he uses that drum set throughout the majority of the whole album I'm pretty sure)

  • @modularhyperborea
    @modularhyperborea 2 роки тому +9

I have two things to say:
at 10:15, that thing is from Cut Throat from Exmilitary. This sample is then in Death Grips (Next Grips), their first song.
the ending section in Big Dipper is Zach Hill to v-drums, if you pay attention you can notice.

  • @apeheadboink

if someone hasn't mentioned the first disc's beats are made entirely from each sound and sample (including bjork vocals) being loaded into an electric drum kit and zach just going crazy on them as he does on the live drums its bonkers and has more a lot of potential that could still be tapped with that technique I think

The "It's death" sound is from their self titled song "Death Grips (Next Grips)" from their self titled EP, it's tied with Jenny Death as my 2nd favorite death grips project, right behind Exmilitary

  • @Xottapchenko

The whole video I waited if you’d appreciate On GP and look for lyrics. Everything about that song - it’s Hendrix-like guitars, it’s crying vocals in the second part weeping “Death says ‘It’s been a pleasure, Stephan’, their music video where you can see them sitting fully drained of any positive emotions - it’s about grief and sorrow. It’s like liquid depression, not some sad vanilla pop song - real, ruthless, agonizing feeling that’s luring you into it’s invisible hands.
I’m so glad you liked On GP, it’s personally one of my favorite songs ever.

Coincidentally enough, I watched this music video for it yesterday. The simplicity of it hurts. It's certainly among my favourite tracks from these guys, despite how hard it can be listen to because it's so unflinching from the subject matter.

I'm finally getting a vinyl copy of this next month because they finally repressed it, on red vinyl too. I preordered pretty much as soon as it was announced months ago and I'm so hyped because the original has been sold out forever and resale prices are through the roof.
Probably their best in my opinion, on par if not better than the money store.

I was going through an abusive relationship (on both ends) when I first sat down and listened to Jenny Death, and I shit you fucking not, getting to Centuries of Damn and hearing the line "I ponder digesting razors just to be done with you" immediately followed by "I love you so much" felt like sucker punch directly to the chest.
And then On GP comes along and puts the misery I'd felt for a long fucking time into words better than I ever could. Centuries of Damn and On GP are the *_only_* songs to get me to start full on bawling my eyes out. *_Death Grips, the same band with a dick on one of their album covers, is the only band to ever write a song capable of making me cry._*
AND THIS IS ON THE SAME FUCKING ALBUM WITH A SONG ABOUT GETTING PISSED ON.

Love this but it's kinda killing me how much you're doing these out of order lol. Could you please do No Love Deep Web next? Then Government plates after?
Or hell if you want a Death Grips break then you need to do a JPEGMAFIA album next. I'd say Veteran then All My Heroes Are Cornballs but if you can only do one I lean toward AMHAC.
Edit: yo earape warning at the end :(

    • @lizzieswaders

Yeah pal, don't worry, I'll be filling in the blanks in order of their releases, so No Love Deep Web will be the next DG reaction. As for JPEGMAFIA, I'm planning a reaction to AMHAC because I've already listened to Veteran in my personal time. Not too sure when this will be just yet :) and sorry for the loud ending. I realise now that it's quite a jolt.

Golly I have a strange request bus pleassse it would be worth your time and it has a great following 👍 just look up Laura les at a2b2 night of fire and it should come up hopefully, its about 15 minute and complete electric punk, the video is the live stream of the show witch happened during 2020 so everyone sent in a video and it was streamed online. A2b2 is run by Andy morin the sound board guy for deathgrips, if you’re still reading you should listen to the 100 gecs album if you haven’t. Been reallly enjoying the reactions too!
