Love this! Great starter for those breaking into their first! I’m in production of mine at the moment! I’m no stranger to shorts but watching this again was a great refresher!
Thank you for the invaluable tips! This tutorial definitely helps and motivates self-quarantined amateur film makers like me to continue to be creative and hopefully productive during this challenging episode.
I waited for this for a long time!!!! This is one of the Most Exceptional guild ever, Your Channel remains the best I've seen so far. More Grease to your elbow 🙌 Love from Nigeria ❤🇳🇬
@@SiHorrocks Thank you MM the film is only an idea in my head at the moment. I have the Samsung S10, the smooth 4 gimbal and a zoom H1n sound recorder with optional mikes, tripods and mono pole those are from my photography along with a little lighting and reflectors. It was the how to making a short film I was stuck on and now I've found your instructions giving me a little kick I needed. Subscribed, so thank you.
I saw this on my reccomended feed and wanted to see if it was posible to get good footage from a smartphone but its more of "how to make a film" as a beginger and for years i have written stories of my own and i even have some i have made up but i haven't written them down but thanks to your insperation i have opened a google doc to keep the parts of my story i remember and don't have to re-write it.
Wow, what a lot of information. It looks very good to me. I definitly going to use it. Thanks. Now I need to figure out the software. What is handy and payable these days on a windows machine. Do you have tips?
Thank you for your channel! It is a bless to receive such good informations and tips! I find that getting deeper in any aspect of making short movies is addictive :-) To express emotion through the characteristics of the color was only one of the many tips I got from your so well organized videos. Thank you again, I’ll be all eyes and years following your work here!
Thanks brother, very generous of you to give this encouragement for us scared amateur filmmakers who want to do good work but are all like?!?!?!?!?!?! lol.. This is very practical and very direct and gets me moving in the right direction.. Which is FORWARD!
This video is the greatest encouragement for indie a filmmaker like me. I’m planing on shooting a short film with no budget. I managed to buy a gimbal and an anamorphic lenses but I have no money for the sound. I want to shoot using lavalier mic close to my actors for houseside shoot and use another iPhone mounted on a stick for indoor shoot What would you advise me ?
Hi Jordan! sound is very important, especially if you have dialogue scenes. They say audiences will tolerate all kinds of visual quality, but if you have bad audio then no deal. Lav mics will be great, but they have to be clipped close to the mouth. I made 1 video about audio here: ua-cam.com/video/uta6A20_vMc/v-deo.html
depends on your country and that country's copyright laws. It's very difficult to stop ideas being copied, but you can fight in a court of law and see if your lawyers can prove that the copied version contains enough similarities to be classed a copy. As soon as you create something, in many countries the copyright is immediately yours. All you need to do is prove you created it before any potential plagiarist. You can spend money registering your script with various bodies online, but to be honest its very unlikely your work will get copied. Obviously, making a film of your script and placing it online is a good way to prove you wrote it

Do you have to have a certain copyrite or whatever it is called to protect your scripts and/or film to be plagiarized?
depends on your country and that country's copyright laws. @@SiHorrocks Thank you so much. This whole video inspired me but I am so scared to start a film. This content was so helpful in many ways.
Where can I find your short films to watch
they're on amazon: geni.us/LaeOy
Which smartphone was used?

I’m definitely trying a 5 minute story.
Yess
How you edit it
I use Premiere Pro
Is it possible to make a film with just on character?
sure, why not? Known as "character driven": ua-cam.com/video/dFjRvo6yawA/v-deo.html
can anyone recommend a tutorial where you replace something the person is holding with a gun
How make cinamatic colour grading with phone

I use small portable external drives
addition: Satyajit Ray also used to draw his own storyboards.
MT BROTHER AND FRIENDS MADE A KARATE FLIK WITH REALLY OLD CAMERAS IN 1980 AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT,,, THEY JUST WANT TO DO IT...
No
I thought there would be examples shot with ta smartphone....waste of bandwidth
there's loads of clips shot on smartphones - the whole Silent Eye series is shot on Samsung smartphones
