- If you watch my channel you know I love food and history. One of the best burger joints in the USA is located in Salina, KS - The Cozy Inn Hamburgers. They have been serving their original slider burgers since 1922. In fact the very first White Castle restaurant was opened just 6 months before in neighboring city Wichita, KS. So dare I say Kansas is the Slider Capital of the USA!

I'm sure you now realize what they were talking about with the smell. 😂😂😂 For those just watching the smell lingers until you wash the clothes and depending on how long you spent inside even beyond the wash! Depending on the wind you can smell them all across town without even being close to the resturant. Some people from out of state will purchase t-shirts and have them open them and hang them in the shop for a couple of days because they want the scent on the shirt.
My dad worked there for many years. In fact, I haven't gone there since my father quit working there.
They don't do custom orders at the Cozy. They serve the burgers one way and one way only. When you're dealing with orders of 20 to 50 burgers at a time, and yes, that is a lunch or dinner rush, you don't have time to stop and make one burger with cheese on it.
If you want cheese on it, get your burgers to go and put cheese on it at home. They're not against other toppings. They just don't have the time or the space for them. What was shown in the video is the exist of the restaurant. The space that you see the rack of buns with the cooler off to the right side of the screen with the walk up windows to the left, that and a small bit just past it is the extent of the storage they have. The cooler takes up most of the back. Where you see the backdoor there is a bathroom back there also so there isn't room to store anything and there isn't room for a fryer for fries.
If you watch the video closely you'll see how they make the burgers.
They put downs little balls of hamburger (those are rolled fresh every morning by the way), they smash that, then they sprinkle onions on top, they pat those in before flipping it, after letting it cook a few minutes, they put a bun on it, with the top bun sitting on top of the bottom bun then as they pick it up they take the top bun and put it against the spatula so that when they pull the spatula out the burger has both buns. Least, that's how my dad did it and how everyone he worked with did too. It was the Cozy way, so it should still be done that way.
Another fun fact for everyone. That cooking surface their using is the original surface that has been there all 101 years! They tried to replace it over 10 years ago, and the customers complained that the burgers didn't taste the same, so they put the original back in place and have been using it ever since. The thought of replacing it was never brought up again!
We love our little "stinky" hamburger shop! Most of the world does too. I mean 101 years, and all they serve is hamburgers with onions!

the no cheese thing is kind of weird. it's not even difficult to add. pickles too. but i'd eat a bunch.
