One of the Largest Nutcracker Collections in the USA - Luverne, Minnesota
The Rock County Historical Society in Luverne, MN proudly displays one of the largest Nutcracker collections in the USA! As of December 2024 they have amassed an impressive 6,455 nutcrackers and growing! Their collection is getting bigger every day and could soon be officially the #1 collection in the country.
In fact, as of filming this, the town of Luverne has plans to erect the tallest nutcracker on the planet just off I-90 that will stand 65 feet tall!
With so much buzz about this famous Christmas character, I had to stop in and see it for myself.

71+ year old former Iowan here. Did some of my growing up in a small town near Marshalltown Iowa. It was a treat to go to Taylor’s Maid-Rite cafe. Maid-Rite started by Fred Angell in 1926 in Muscatine Iowa. He began franchising them in 1927. There are a lot of copies, but Maid-Rite is very protective of their brand name and will sue anyone using the name without paying for the right. The only exceptions are non-profit organizations like schools or churches who would say they were serving “maid-rites” for special events, etc. They didn’t seem to pay any attention to those. The last time I ate at Taylor’s in Marshalltown a few years ago I believe they had ketchup available on the counter. A part of any good business is recognizing what their customers want. Another favorite place was Henry’s where the hamburgers were 15 cents. That was in the mid 1960’s.

Nice video. I always enjoy watching these and hearing what others think of these hikes. I've done Camelback multiple times, both trails. Echo Canyon is the harder route but Cholla is not exactly easy and I've seen plenty of people turn back at the landing pad where it becomes scrambly and very difficult if you have a hard time rock climbing. There is a guy with one leg who does Echo Canyon pretty much every day the trail is open. He does it faster than anyone else. He is my inspiration. One piece of advice I have for anyone attempting this is WEAR GLOVES. I always wear gloves when hiking and I can't tell you how many times I've had people see my gloves and tell me that they wish they had gloves because on this hike you have your hands on a lot of rocks, the rocks are rough and most people (unless their hands are rough) get sore hands. Be in shape. If you are visiting from out of town and are not a hiker and are not in good shape then don't even try this, do yourself a favor and drive out to Pinnacle Peak or Tom's Thumb (both in Scottsdale) and do those, they are both beautiful hikes and much easier. Unless you are acclimated to the heat don't do this in the heat. You are risking your safety and the safety of the first responders who might have to come rescue you. Piestewa Peak is a fun hike with rewarding views, it's easier than Camelback but still, if you are not in any kind of shape, it's going to be extremely difficult to complete. If you are huffing and puffing in the first 10 minutes (the easy part of it) then you probably are not going to make it to the top because the last 1/3 of it is very difficult and you'll be totally beat by the time you get to the hardest part. Bring water. Even if it's 70 degrees and you think it's nice and cool out, bring water.

@@MNRick041 I did Cholla Trail this past year and actually in the process of editing my experience which will release soon. I actually found Cholla to be a little more challenging than Echo Canyon, which is opposite of what most hikers say. There was a lot more rock grips/technical work past the helicopter pad than I was expecting, really enjoyed it!

You stand in a very small crowded room waiting for a disappointing wet sandwich that's guaranteed to make an enormous mess. And no, it doesn't even taste very good. It's what you'd imagine food from the world's laziest food truck to be like. Just wet meat thrown across the bread by a pissed off middle aged man and poorly wrapped. It's probably the least satisfying food in the entire city, if I'm being honest. i wouldn't spend a single dollar of my money there, anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️

Some folks cover mirrors because they don't want the dead person's soul to be trapped in the mirror. Some do it so after a person dies demons can't come out of the mirror to take souls -- or so you don't loose your soul in the mirror. The thing about the food that was left after the killer left -- some folks leave a food offering TO THE DEAD... Maybe that's why the killer or killers left some food behind. Some folks think a killer (s) were in the attic because cig butts were found up there -- Could the person or person's have hidden in the basement? Maybe even in the barn - folks didn't lock their doors much back then.

If you're into haunted places -- I know of some here in Maryland. A place in town that's now a thrift store, the pub in town from the late 1700's, the over 400 ye old building by the dam & the Concord Point Lighthouse & Keeper's house across the street from it & anther lighthouse. On line they won't mention that the Concord Lighthouse ect is haunted that would be bad for tourists but when the Keeper's house is opened ask to see the notebook they keep about hauntings going on there. At that Keeper's house the lady behind the counter showed me the police report of a man who'd been shot and killed by the back door before the place was fixed up. I brought her to where the pictures of past light keepers hung ...there was a lightkeeper and the dead man could have been twins. I thought it was cool but the lady turned pale. The dock area behind the lighthouse is haunted as well but by very helpful sprites - well they were to me It's the only time seeing with my own eyes intead of having to use a camnra. Maybe they showed up because of the very bad storm that came up so quickly. Black ghosts with human type bodies were in the water in front of me as I stood on the dock & they kept pointing -- it wasn't till later that I realized they were pointing in the direction of where I lived. I didn't want to leace -- even though the dock moved under my feet, the wind was blowing ever harder, the sky was getting darker & darker -- Then a sprite climbed the ladder and leaned against it -- was like-- "You need to leave ...NOW..." type look. I don't have a car so I walked quikly home as the wind was really blowing & at 2 in the afternoon looked like it was 10 pm -- Just got in the door- turned the light on -- the light went right out! The power was out!!! Stupid me I should have taken the stairs -- instead of the elevator -- DUH... I really think the sprites made sure I got home safely. I still say "thank you" out loud when I'm on that dock.
