Dr. Bill Harrison, an eye specialist who works with athletes, claims that in 50 years of testing athlete's eyes Barry Bonds had far and away the best visual acuity he had ever seen. He scored the absolute highest in depth perception, contrast acuity, visual acuity, eye alignment, and eye muscle vergence skills, and this combination of skills enabled him to draw walks and swing only at pitches in his zone.

This clip just has everything. Literally a perfect storm of greatness. Bonds at his absolute peak hitting one of the longest homers ever hit in the greatest stadium ever built, one that has seen players like Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, players who Bonds was in the same class as. As a Yankee fan this is EASILY my favorite home run hit by an opposing player. Such a shame this was the only series Bonds played against us in the Bronx. If only interleague play was introduced sooner…
Say what you want about this man, but he put butts in seats and was the most feared hitter ever. I don't care if he was on something or not, this man put on a clinic every time he stepped to the plate. Plenty of PED users couldn't hit water if it fell out a boat so that's irrelevant to me. He was THE BEST player I've ever seen
I almost went to this game because I wanted to see him in person. I never knew when he would be back so I had to go but couldn't make it that day and was so pissed when he hit the bomb.
When Yankee Stadium cheers for you it’s definitely something special. Btw, I lived in Parsippany NJ still when he hit this. I went to my car and it was smashed by a baseball!
This was just two days before I graduated high school. I always tried to be the "right-handed" version of Barry back in my high school playing days, LOL. He blasted that ball!
Barry was like a great white shark. Things are quiet for awhile, you think it's safe in the water, then BOOM. To do this at the old Stadium, Jon Miller on the call. Truthfully, this is one of my all-time favorite baseball moments.
I was at this game and watched this homer from the center field bleachers. This ball was still on the way up when it hit the upper deck. An absolute missile!
Plus he played in a very unfriendly hitting ballpark. San Fran has that wind coming right off the bay and can turn a close homer into a double (or triple if you’re slow) and he still managed to knock them into McCovey cove multiple times.
I was sitting in upper deck, 3rd base side but facing directly at the right field foul line at home plate - it was the loudest sound ever heard from a bat when he hit that ball! Everyone was just amazed by how powerful that shot was.
@@philithegamer8265 You focused in on 1% of the crowd. I was there. The ovation was so loud you could have only heard booing from mics located near those haters.
I'm from London, England where I still live and have been a Yankees fan since 1081 when I stayed at my Aunt's place off Grand Concourse during a vacation. Reggie Jackson was the sole reason for me loving the Yankees and Baseball.Really rough following them in 80s and 90s- thank goodness for cable, the internet and occasional trips back to NYC and attending the old Yankee Stadium for games, including seeing live (via tv) the Subway Series with the Mets! Anyway, whilst in New York this particular time, I got a ticket as a birthday gift for the game after this one where he hit the home run. It was on a Sunday and from what I recall, Torres intentionally walked Bonds every one of his At-Bats. Everyone was on their feet for each one of them and soundly booed when he got walked. High drama.
Tremendous memory, I believe it was first AB of the game, I was there also, few minutes late, and literally sat down as he hit the ball and literally almost jumped out of my seat getting right back up. I say it was first AB bc of time if day if you look at the sun thats an early afternoon sun, compared to 4 and it would be going down a bit more. Least part of my memory. Watching this clip gave me goosebumps. Rest In Peace to Bob Sheppard as well as Yankee Stadium.
I was at the first game of this series, the night before, and I’ve NEVER seen so many come out for BP....and Bonds hit almost every one into the upper deck!!!
Still wondering where the ball landed when Barry hit the HR against the Angels and Salmon said “that’s the furthest ball I’ve ever seen hit, but I have no doubt that this HR vs the Yankees went further. Indeed the most spectacular HR I’ve ever seen from the most spectacular slugger I’ve ever seen. Most feared hitter in baseball’s long history. Barry Lamar Bonds.
Steriods had nothing to do with Bonds natural eye/hand coordination. He had one of the best strike zones recognition and had uncanny ability to adjust his swings to pitches at the last second.
@@dme1016 You want to see the most perfect swing ever?! Look at old clips of Ted Williams The Slendid Splinter. He had a career on base percentage of .482 which is still a MLB record. Last hitter to hit over .400 batting average for a season....402 to be exact. Williams lost 4 yrs of his career going to fight in WW2 and Korea. He finished with 2,642 hits and 521 home runs. If he doesn't lose those 4 yrs he easily gets over 3,000 hits and probably close to 700 home runs. Joe DiMaggio called Williams the best hitter he ever saw.

Even before steroids he was one of the greatest players ever. His career before 99 (allegedly when he started juicing) was incredible. He's a hall of famer for sure
no offense, but you have no knowledge of the subject. There isn't some bylaw, the hall of fame is simply determined by what the voters decide. I'm glad I got to see Barry crush a ball live at great American ball park. Best hitter of all time
This clip just has everything.
Greatest hitter i have ever seen! Even before the cream & clear scandal this dude was a HOF. Baseball was fun to watch back then. He is baseball's 🐐
Best hand and eye coordination. His swing was nothing but beautiful.
The crowd's 180 on Bonds once he hit that giant homer is the reason why Selig turned a blind eye to steroids. It was just too entertaining.
John Miller on the Call, One of the all-time classics.
His name is Jon but yes to everything else you said.
What a call by Jon Miller too! "This one is headed for New Jersey"
ESPN BRING BACK JON MILLER, AND JOE MORGAN!!!!!
No one should ever have to listen to Joe Morgan.
I like Joe Morgan, ok?!
You mean like someone taking ten minutes to explain something incorrectly?
Exactly
he's actually hitting it to yonkers since they hit the baseball from south to north
I miss this era…such fun times in baseball. Barry was truly legendary
doesnt get anymore classic than Bob Sheppard introducing Barry Bonds...who crushes a MOON SHOT to the DELIGHT of the opposing team's fans!
With Jon miller with the call. A thing of beauty
One thing people don't talk about Bonds was his patience at the plate, especially in the later part of his career. The guy had an amazing eye.
I was there. Sitting in the upper deck with my father. What a shot.
I went to this game, and I can honestly say it was the loudest I'd ever heard Yankees fans cheer an opposing team's player.
And brings them out of the seats as well 😉
Couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat. That's a great line.
Dude. He was the greatest player in last like 90 years. There is no debating this
I almost went to this game because I wanted to see him in person.
No matter how many times I watch this, I can never get over the sound when Bonds hit it. Unreal.
Wow this ball is absolutely destroyed!
It's ridiculous how good of a hitter he was.
Estimated exit velocity?
This was just two days before I graduated high school. I always tried to be the "right-handed" version of Barry back in my high school playing days, LOL. He blasted that ball!
Matt Antonelli was going to be the future of the Padres and had so much potential
0:32 Kato Kaelin sighting!
Barry was like a great white shark. Things are quiet for awhile, you think it's safe in the water, then BOOM.
To do this at the old Stadium, Jon Miller on the call. Truthfully, this is one of my all-time favorite baseball moments.
wow he hit it right to Owen Wilson
That's how his nose got fucked up.
Johnny ahahaha
Nova hahahaha
Nova I was going to say Opie
this ball was about as high up as owen hart was when he fell
That ball was definitely headed for Connecticut not New Jersey.
+MastaUliazz15 I always liked "And He hits it towards South America"....the best lol
I was thinking more along the lines of Vermont.
it went to the moon in orbit right now
YankeeFan18 los Angeles
stylus850 I’m Canadian and can’t stand drake.
Probably the greatest home run and accompanying commentary of all time.
I was at this game and watched this homer from the center field bleachers. This ball was still on the way up when it hit the upper deck. An absolute missile!
Everyone talks about if Griffey played for the Yankees, imagine Bonds with that short porch. He'd easily have 800+ homers.
Nfs021 Nope, they'd rightfully walk his ass every time if he played there.
They Would Pitch To Griffey (A Bad Idea)
@WOOD PRIDE 88 but more home runs were hit in Cincy, Colorado, Texas, Philly and DC....
imagine griffey on roids. Bonds cheated and we really don't know for how long since he's always lied about it.
It literally sounds like a firecracker I love Barry man
Section 2 , tier reserve behind home plate. I never saw a ball keep rising on a line drive into the upper deck before. Incredible.
Everything about this moment was perfect from the hit to the call to the fan reaction.
I was there. I remember it took like 2 seconds for the ball to go 10 rows under the lights.. Definitely in my top 3 moments at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees players reactions was amazing
My favorite Bonds Home Run. The other one came a week later when he hit the scoreboard in SD.
For me, the most amazing thing about that home run was the sound it made. I don't think I've ever heard another homer sound like that.
You know you’re beyond baseball when Yankee fans are cheering you after hitting a home run on the opposing team! Lmao. That was special.
I heard booing.
That’s probably the only time anyone in that crowd ever saw a home run hit that far. You’re kinda obligated to cheer at that point lol
@@philithegamer8265 You focused in on 1% of the crowd. I was there. The ovation was so loud you could have only heard booing from mics located near those haters.
@@brucesmith1754 People *hated* Barry Bonds for what he did, and he's still hated for it to this very day.
NUMBAH 25 BARRY BONDS DESIGNATED HITTAH......... NUMBAH 25....
WHY AM I THINKING THE SAME THING
Iconic
This is the most ridiculous thing ive ever seen. I miss Barry Bonds so much
I was at this game, it was absolutely electric seeing this live.
High drama.
Joe Torre was smart on that decision. LOL!!!
Enjoy and glad to see so many people who remembered this I thought it was just 1 of 755
This HR and the one Bonds hit at Angels stadium were absolute rockets.
I think the one at Angels Stadium was even longer than this one, but both were shots!
@djamo1969 nope this was half way up in 3rd deck.. unbelievable 55000 people for other team went Down by 3 this is old ys not new one these folks have seen slot of baseball. An they all knew what just happened wish we had Stat cast for him
The other iconic home run was against Eric Gagne.
This is the single greatest swing I have ever seen.
That’s what steroids does
Lol I can promise you steroids can’t create a great swing
Most feared batter of all time, period.
This has to be the most feared hitter in modern day baseball
Ever*
@@TheChosennn Your pitching coach literally faced Bonds one time and Bonds hit a double off of him. That's not exactly a good track record.
@@newerest1 well then i was wrong. I thought he faced him 3 times
You could not pitch to him during this time. Walk or HR.
Of all time
They loved to boo him, then cheer in awe. There was no one like Bonds.
I love watching swings and homers of Shohei these days, still long for the old days of Barry Bonds playing the ballgame.
One of the most iconic homers of all time.
this never gets old.
"and this ones headed for new jersey!"
sfgmanCA I watched it over 20 times in a row seriously addicting
The swing the home run the play by play call is magnificent
When he made contact, it sounded like god broke his leg.
James Benton Ticer lol
Hahahha!!
Awesome take !
That home run was bad ass
I'm one of the biggest Dodgers fans you will ever meet and man did I love Bonds,
I miss Bob Sheppard. He is the Voice of God. I just remember going to the old Yankee Stadium and hearing him echo through the stadium. It just reminded you of the rich history in that ballpark. For those who never had a chance to experience Bob Sheppard and the old Yankee Stadium, I am truly sorry. That was one of the greatest experiences you could have at a baseball game. Watching this clip gave me goosebumps. Rest In Peace to Bob Sheppard as well as Yankee Stadium.
He was so awesome that he made other teams stadiums stand for him. Great swing, huge homeruns. This was a bomb. Great video
great drugs
Will forever be my favorite homer
Greatest player of all-time. Nobody ever got their hands from Point A to Point B in a straighter, quicker path.
Best hitter I’ve ever seen. The GOAT. The Michael Jordan of MLB. The Tom Brady of MLB.
@DrMonkeyBoyJr Tom Brady is.
@TRK516 GOAT
Imagine how many homers Bonds would have had as a Yankee with that short porch.
More than 1000
I am a lifelong Braves fan, but Ken Griffey Jr and Barry Bonds both had the sweetest swings that you would ever see!
I SWEAR
Darryl strawberry's swing was tight and vicious too.
I was at the first game of this series, the night before, and I’ve NEVER seen so many come out for BP....and Bonds hit almost every one into the upper deck!!!
Hand Eye coordination was next level…bat speed , crazy. Swing? Immaculate.
Barry Bonds may have been the greatest talent to ever play baseball.
The home run in Anaheim that same season went an estimated 565 feet.
Game 2 of the World Series.
I remember that one... it was a bomb
I still don’t think that one has landed yet.
'That's the farthest ball I ever saw hit....'
- Tim Salmon
no. it was 485
Still wondering where the ball landed when Barry hit the HR against the Angels and Salmon said “that’s the furthest ball I’ve ever seen hit, but I have no doubt that this HR vs the Yankees went further. Indeed the most spectacular HR I’ve ever seen from the most spectacular slugger I’ve ever seen. Most feared hitter in baseball’s long history. Barry Lamar Bonds.
"The MLB Steroid Era" The Best Era Ever In Baseball.
For those who Can't measure up to standards
Steriods had nothing to do with Bonds natural eye/hand coordination. He had one of the best strike zones recognition and had uncanny ability to adjust his swings to pitches at the last second.
The most beautiful swing ever...
tippfff I agree with you as far as beautiful swing but beautiful swing ever would have to go to Ken Griffey Jr. - his swing was flawless!
Ismael Torres I agree. Griffey carries this crown in most minds.
Strawberry had a beaut too.
@@tjk9263 I know, but Strawberry had that bro fluidity, & that long stripe on his Mets uni which made him look 8 foot tall. Even cooler than Griffey's swing. Or Bonds.
Man was amazing. Miss watching him play.
Barry Bonds in 2002, the second of 4 straight MVP seasons
Missed 20 games (143 games played)
.370 average 46 HRs, 110 RBI, 198 BB, 47 SO, .799 SLG%, 1.381 OPS
(The highest OPS of all-time, until he broke that record in 2004, going over 1.400)
Now imagine had Bonds played for the Yankees or the Red Sox for his entire career. His stats would've been more insane
@@philithegamer8265Fenway park is harder to hit HRs than Yankee Stadium
The greatest ballplayer of all-time
Safe to say the fans got their money's worth on that day. All the heads behind home plate turned in amazement simultaneously.
Even before steroids he was one of the greatest players ever. His career before 99 (allegedly when he started juicing) was incredible. He's a hall of famer for sure
Yeah he had 3 mvp awards before he got bigger
Edwin Drake i'll bet you any amount of money he ends up in the Hall of Fame.
Jeff F he can't be in the hall of fame if he used steroids.
no offense, but you have no knowledge of the subject. There isn't some bylaw, the hall of fame is simply determined by what the voters decide. Pete Rose was officially banned from baseball, which they interpreted to mean the hall of fame. Bonds' vote total this year is up sharply from last year, he will be in within the next 5 years, maybe much sooner
Jeff F Name someone who got into the hall of fame by using steroids. If you can it's like 3 people out of a lot. It's not fair to the other players.
