I can't even explain how important is this concert to me, this made my DNA! Began watching at 13 the VHS short version like almost all of you. Then later the expanded version just growed the impression that this was a once-in-a-life-time lapse of time absolutely unique + unforgettable. Those who attended the show, wow!... You can feel that power just watching the film...
Absolutely! I was only 6 when the War Tour was undertaken. They didn't even play Spain but... Who cares! Films off Red Rocks or US Festival are absolutely groundbreaking!
The transition from An Cat Dubh to Into the Heart is musical genius by the Edge. With the exception of the studio version, this is possibly the very best bit of music ever performed by this band.
Are you kidding me? Where did you find this? Just awesome! Rise up! I saw U2 on their first tour of the USA at a free concert in the San Jose State University upstairs ballroom (Oct? 1980). My dorm mate & I attended. "I Will Follow" had just been released on radio. That was the only song we knew. When U2 started playing An Cat Dubh we just looked at each other in amazement. We realized we were witnessing something special. That night, Bono and the band were on fire. I never knew concrete could flex like that. Roadies were sprawling across the speaker stacks to keep them from toppling. To this date (2018), that was the greatest rock concert I ever witnessed.
Me too bro , except on the East Coast. I will follow on WRTC Trinty College Hartford,CT. Free outdoor show. We interviewed BONO and the Edge afterwards...a year later...this. and I was here at this Red Rocks Show. BURNED INTO MY PSYCHE.
I remember seeing/hearing this song for the 1st time on tv in Australia 1980 on SBS, I think the show was called Rock Around the World. It was a live show somewhere in Ireland, they blew me away I'd never heard a sound like that before. To watch Bono climb up the scaffolding and still sing and excite the audience. I knew at that moment they would rock on for many years. A privilege to see them on Joshua Tree tour, 80s, looking forward to seeing you them again for the Joshua Tree tour in Oct 19 Rock On 🤟👼🤟
Before my time but I witnessed An cat Dubh/into the heart in Croke park Dublin 2005, And for me it was the highlight of the show, That couple of songs sounded amazing in a big Stadium..
We watched the VHS of this when I was at school, was my first time seeing them play live, I reckon I was 12? Ish. Still amazing. And the Vertigo tour version is even better. I love seeing new U2 sing old U2. Shivers down my spine
OH I just got a wiggy wump in my belly as Bono sat down, Larry & Adam just watching Edge. Wow. I've never seen this whole concert, taking a moment now. Magical in 2023, hoping U2 swings by Denver again soon.
Except he’s still technically proficient to the utmost degree. He’s probably on the same level in understanding the guitar front to back as someone like Jeff beck, he just doesn’t put it on display. But to achieve that tone that’s so recognizable…
One of my faves. Hearing on the Vertigo tour was great. Some fake fans went to get a beer when they started playing this. Won't forget that ever. The Beautiful Day crowd. Arses!!
Under a blood red sky is my favourite live album only wish it had more of the red rocks concert on it. Wore out the vhs many, many years ago. Great to see it again.
This is U2's best song. It's the only one where Bono is really being honest about himself, and not just being aspirational. That line "I know the truth about you" gives me hella chills.
I saw them on the UF tour and was hoping they would play this one...nahhh, didn’t happen but to this day, I’d rank U2 as Top 3 concerts I ever went to....never went to any of their Gigs afterwards. I hate to use the words “Sold-Out”...they just went in a direction I no longer was interested in...
@@red-ku9jl it's supposedly about him having a row with his girlfriend, now wife, and running off and shagging a Gaelic speaking girl, from memory. Hence *An Cat Dubh*.
@@red-ku9jl Bono lost his mother at age 14. He grew up in a very tough household with 2 other “angry” Irishmen. He had teenage angst (like most teenagers have) and he was still broken by his mothers death. Also his father was very tough on him. He is talking about how he is hiding his emotions, by talking to himself saying “I know the truth about you.”

AMBIKA AMBIKA, TIVE A SORTE DE ASSISTIR O SHOW COMPLETO NUM TELÃO QUE A FLUMINENSE FM COLOCOU NO ROXY ROLLER DA LAGOA EM 1984 !! será que alguém aí tb foi ?
This is when I loved Bono. Now he's grinding on me. Way more sincere back in the day. U2 is a corporation now, not what they were here. Still love the music. Not the preaching to save the world. I checked out on that.
I was living in England when these guys broke out. The opposite of Adam and the Ants that ruled the radio at the time. Then Bono got political and full of himself and they absolutely sucked ever after. But this is gold.
They released IMO, that gawd awful Actung baby album...but the writing was on the wall when they were advised to ditch the spiritual lyrical content around the Josh Tree to more secular themes...
Where in goodness did you get this from? Had no idea there was extra footage from the concert/s! That's high quality footage. Most excellent performance.
U2 live circa 1984-1985 was like a religious experience. Saw them in Adelaide on their Australian leg of the Under a Blood Red Sky world tour. Its still one of the most memorable concerts I've ever been to. An Cat Dabh-Into The Heart was stunning. Long story but Gloria was played in full twice at my gig. Great video from a time long gone but remembered fondling.
God, there is nothing like the power of love and believing in your convictions. Bono is pure. He is good. He tries to fight evil. He is natural performer, storyteller, shaman. And the voice...aah
In 2008, the show was remastered and released on dvd with almost the entire show instead of the 10 or 11 songs that were on the original VHS release, the only exceptions are "I fall down" (because of a problem with the camera) and parts of "The Electric co" and "two hearts beat as one" because they have parts of cover songs that were copyrighted (electric had the "send in the clouds" snippet, and two hearts, "let's twist again, that`s why in electric co, we don't see when Bono climbed the top of the stage and when he takes off his t-shirt in the two hearts middle part, there's a part missing.

The transition to Into the Heart is one of the best guitar parts I’ve ever heard in my life. The Edge was so creative in this one, man!
Back in the day U2 was the most fresh and powerfull live concert on planet , hello to all U2ers
Absolutely! I was only 6 when the War Tour was undertaken. They didn't even play Spain but... Who cares! Films off Red Rocks or US Festival are absolutely groundbreaking!
Before they became the Self- Righteous Bros.
For sure! I saw them in concert in “82, and they were amazing! I only wish their music was as good today as it was back then.
U2 An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart is one of my favorite song!
The transition from An Cat Dubh to Into the Heart is musical genius by the Edge. With the exception of the studio version, this is possibly the very best bit of music ever performed by this band.
Edge was a master at those little bits. There are loads of great parts like that on October too.
Genius. The most unique guitarist that I’ve heard
Adam's bass IS demonic👍
Rise Up!!! A message for Today!!! End Tyranny!!
My favorite song/combination by U2. Performed at my favorite live venue they ever did. What a legendary show at Red Rocks this was.

That was March 18, 1981 that that U2 gig was at San Jose State. Lucky you!
@@bonsummers2657 You're right about the date :-)
I saw them, but much later, for AB in '92. Hampton VA. Best concert ever, but no Love is Blindness. WOWY was the closer. Still an outstanding show 👍👍
You are a very lucky guy man , i'm jealous
I was there 36 years ago. EPIC concert.
WOW
Que privilégio ter ido a um show inesquecível como esse em Red rocks
Sigh....
a portrait of my youth
It rained and the next day went to boulder
This and OCTOBER are my all time favorite and PURE U2.

Proof that one doesn't have to be a shredder to be a guitar great.
Jim Carpenter
True dat
I love shredders. But i still love the Edge. Simple but powerful.
I cannot agree more
Except he’s still technically proficient to the utmost degree. He’s probably on the same level in understanding the guitar front to back as someone like Jeff beck, he just doesn’t put it on display. But to achieve that tone that’s so recognizable…
Did I mention I WAS THERE. "Cool Colorado Rain" was tracking in....the fog was stupendous by the end of the show
You lucky rider
love u2 in the 80's!
One of my faves. Hearing on the Vertigo tour was great. Some fake fans went to get a beer when they started playing this. Won't forget that ever. The Beautiful Day crowd. Arses!!
they’re not U2 fans. they’re top 40 fans
O MELHOR álbum ao vivo da MELHOR fase do U2!!!
Magnifcient! Great version. The Edge´s guitar intro for "Into the Heart" is great!. Thanks.
Adam Clayton the best bassist ever.
Under a blood red sky is my favourite live album only wish it had more of the red rocks concert on it. Wore out the vhs many, many years ago. Great to see it again.

Hi. Why do you think he's being honest about himself? I'm genuinely curious since I love the lyrics but I don't know much about him.

Lyrics:
Say goodnight
She waits for me to
Put out the lights
When I'm still
She waits to break my will (oh oh oh oh)
Yes, and I know the truth about you, she cat
And in the daylight
A blackbird makes a violent sight
And when she is done
She sleeps beside the one (oh oh oh oh)
Yes, and I know the truth about you, she cat
Yes, and I know the truth about you, she cat
In to the heart of a child i can go there
I have no idea what this song is about but I like it.
Allie had broken up with Bono and another chick started making the moves on Bono. Bono stayed true to Allie.

U2 modern and hot
is it weird to say that, like, idk, was it kind of heavy at like 3:40?
Edge
❤️🤗
Even theor beer break songs are good
I got nervous when Edge got close to Bono swaying the Mike stand. Haven't they seen The. Commitments?
U2s best. What happened to them?
