You did that so well that I could follow along even though I couldn’t see what you were doing! You’re very talented how about a video with leg draw if that makes any sense

Another great video! Just a suggestion, but a video on how best to resharpen a Raider (or similar) would be helpful and appreciated. Thank you for your service, and all you do for the Knife Community!

Huh. I need to try that reverse to front flip with my Mako. Definitely looking to acquire one of your knives. Like your thoughts on things. I see a lot of thoughts in the comments on possibly losing the blade while doing this. I was under the impression if you’re dealing with an unarmed attacker or multiple, it’s better off in the back hand to prevent situations like that; front hand for armed weapons. If someone sees you and has the ability to try and get it out of your hand, wouldn’t they use their weapon over grabbing for it? Just get out of the way. Maybe a future video topic?

Thank you for the feedback and the future business. I agree, the guy that could take it or slap it away is a bad dude and would most likely mess you up with his own blade before he even considered taking yours.

To me observing it seems that there is very little contact on the handle (front finger pinch) with rapid movement.
If someone smacked your hand/arm hard enough the blade would fly out of your hand.
    That's my first thought anyway.
With that said it's likely that in an actual life/death scenario once the weapon is unsheathed (cross drawn) whatever the direction of the blade (straight forward) would be used to attack and stop the threat.
The more the blade changes position (front then back thrust) the greater the probability of dropping the knife or having it knocked out of your hand.
    Thoughts?

My thoughts... Changing blade position is at times necessary, and the threat will not present itself perfectly for how you unsheath your blade. Things rarely go down to suit exactly how you hope your carry style is most advantageous.
Also someone with the ability to realize what your movement is mid transition and intercept that with a perfectly timed and placed "slap" in the half second that it takes to make that movement likely would already have severely injured you before you even thought about making a movement for your blade. That's assuming you aren't protecting your blade hand with any other defensive movements, and have positioned yourself in a manner to expose yourself to slapping at that close range. I suppose if such a human with those reflexes existed and if you stood stone still and didn't flinch at them lunging toward you to slap your hand it is possible. However anything is possible if you alter the what if's enough to make it plausible.
There are endless amounts of possible situations that can be discussed to render every grip and movement useless.

I think being a knife expert is overrated. No one in a real fight uses a knife like the experts. If you want to see how knives are really used, watch old UA-cam videos of prison attacks. Anyone with a knife used for self-defense is dangerous. My advice is to walk or run away if someone has a blade. I've have been doing Arnis since 1980.

It’s not accurate to say that “no body” fights like the experts. That depends on the expert. If your going to carry anything that has the potential for harm, responsibly you need to train from a professional. You Tube does not begin to prepare you for how difficult it is to wrestle with or fend off an actual human. Even if the training doesn’t have every scenario addressed there is huge value in the understanding of the basics of grip, deployment, etc. Every martial art, law enforcement, and military provides at least basic hands on training. There may not be the ability to run or walk away so preparing for contingencies is very wise.

@Tkell Knives I actually carry a firearm and knife as a backup for self-defense. I've been doing martial arts for decades. Yes, I am an expert in several martial arts. You are correct that nobody fights like the experts. I've never seen any video of an expert using a knife for self-defense yet. If you know of one post, it. I do think someone who carries a knife for self-defense should get training. However, that being said, anyone with a good blade has a force multiplier for self-defense even with limited training.

@Tkell Knives I'm a USAF veteran and grew up on navy bases where I first learned martial arts. This was before there were very many martial arts schools in the USA. I'm in my early 60s. So, I am an old man and rely on firearms and knives for my primary self-defense needs. I still practice the martial arts every day. One of the best martial arts is high school wrestling. I know many folks don't think of wrestling as a martial art. That, along with jujitsu and a good stand-up, fighting art with punching, striking, and kicking. The key is to spare without pads. Learn to take a punch or kick. Boxing is good because you learn how to protect your head. Yes, kali and arnis are great. Many knife self-defense courses, the instructors have this background. A good firearm school is essential. The Marine Corp has the best rifle program. Also, if someone attacks you with a knife, be prepared to get cut.
