People who spend $600+ on a board/skis shouldn’t care how much their helmet costs when your brain is the most important thing you can protect, I cracked my Bern helmet last year hitting a super pipe and now I’m all in on getting wavecel or mips; protect your brain people it’s so valuable
I couldn't agree more. There are just some things you shouldn't cheap out on. As a motorcycle rider I always cringe when I see people wearing the $39 Bilt helmets made by Cycle Gear. I know not everyone can spend $500+ on a top of the line helmet, but you should at least be exploring mid range options and added safety features. You only get one brain and once that's damaged sometimes it's forever.
More companies need to adopt crash tech into their helmets! Mips and wave cell are are super handy. I love your smith maze story too, im starting to think everyone buys a smith maze by accident
Worth noting that Smith Maze (or Allure -- same helmet as Maze but with black logo) have a MIPS versions as well. Extra $20 bucks for more safety is worth it.
I have the Oakley Mod3. I like it quite a bit. Mips and Boa are nice. It’s light weight and you can adjust the vents on it so you don’t need a bulky hat underneath to stay warm. And I rode with it at Timberline this summer and didn’t overheat. I’ve crashed a few times with it and I think it’s holding up nicely. I know you’re supposed to get a new helmet if you’ve hit your helmet after one time according to Save a Brain, but I think the Mod3 can take a few knocks. Just my opinion though!! Thanks for the reviews.
@SnowboardProCamp The fall at 0:32 where your lenses fell off. First of all, I'm glad you're ok. Do you remember if those goggles were the Anon M4s? If so, does that happen often?
i want to love the maze. i bought it because everyone recommends it but it is definitely for people with round heads. I have an oval head and it squeezes the front and back of my head but there are huge gaps on the side. I returned it for a Giro Trig with mips. i love that helmet so much
Had the opposite problem with Mazes I tried. The regular fit was way to ovular and I had to go with the "round contour". I'm kinda in-between though but the round felt a lot better. Never had that problem with any other brand before except for Sweet Protection - theirs even more ovular.
I was on the lift at Big Bear and watched as a guy, who was just sitting down resting, was hit in the back of his head by the snowboard of another rider who had slipped and was sliding on his back. His board went up and smashed the guy who was not wearing a helmet. I had never wanted one before because I felt safe but I immediately went and bought one. Always wear one because it protects you from yourself and from others.
Smith Code is good, too. When I bought it a few years ago, Smith Maze didn't have MIPS yet. That's why I went for Smith Code, which already had MIPS. They have regular fit for oval head and Asian fit for round head. Of course, now that Maze has MIPS and it's slightly lighter, there is not much reason to spend $20+ more to get Code any more. But the inside of Code is better constructed than the inside of Maze (from I see in this video).
Would also like to add about the internals of the Code that its like a proper hat and it sits between your head and the MIPS shell, which makes it a nicer fit than Maze with just a few padded lines directly on MIPS shell. Pity that Turkish Airlines crushed my Code :) Buying something different this time.
I'm sitting here after a snowboarding accident (01.03.), don't know what happened but I definitely need a new helmet. Having an accident is bad, having an accident and not knowing anything about it really sucks, protect your brains 😅 ride safe!
Per the companies suggestion (in this case, Smith for the Maze), a thin balaclava is the only thing you should wear, if anything at all. It will indeed impact the safety performance of MIPS in the event of a crash. I would love if Kevin (@snowboardprocamp) addressed this in his reviews.
i ordered the smith maze that you had linked and realized it doesnt have MIPS... thoughts on the helmet without the MIPS system? basically just a Smith Maze
Hands down if I don’t have a helmet I won’t ride that day. I’m new and only been 19x since last season. One day I got off the lift and buckled in. I’m going about 5mph trying to figure which run at Timberline I wanna hit. Out of nowhere I’m down and felt like I got hit by a truck. I caught an edge and fell without knowing it. I was dazed for 10 seconds but I got up and broke my speed record. If I wasn’t wearing a helmet 🪖 well I might not had of made it and at the least my day would of been over. Helmets save brains 🧠
was that your Anon lens that popped off the frame when you crashed at the end of the video? Anon prob has the best magnetic lens system, but still came off the frame!!! So I guess regular old Line Miners will be a better choice in terms of lens security compared to magnetic lenses. Great video!!!!

Swapped from giro to smith maze season just gone in Nz and strap at back of my head rubs a bit - but I don’t wear hat under my helmet so you’d have that extra layer. Also noticed in small size they don’t fit the anon M4s quite as well as the giro did. Love how light it is though
@@SnowboardProCamp to be fair it’s one of those things that you notice on the chair lift but disappears once your focussed on riding - but why did they use that hard plastic material?? Maybe just need to rock a solid mullet next season…
Does anybody have any pointers I'm trying to find a helmet that does not push my goggles down and it seems to pinch my nostrils. Tried giro trig, anon rodan
It wasn't from snowboarding but when I was rideing bmx in a comp I fucked up on a 360 and smacked my head on the concrete and my helmet cracked in half saving my head
Kevin, great content. Does the Smith Maze Mips still have the adjustable neck strap that previous versions had? I'm referring to the 3 settings that you can click the neck strap in. Thanks!
Cool! Thanks! I appreciate it! You really do a good job teaching and making sure people are ok and happy! I have an Anon wave cell, been through 3 Smith helmet, all with MIPS, and I also had a K2 for awhile! And whatever I could get before that. Thanks again man! Cool helmets too!
Coming from Vert Riding of all helmets i tried the BERN is the best fitting for me and Most compfy. Also Gomes with MIPS ++++ best Look by far. Riding Superbike and Sumo aswell and telling all of you guys: if the helmet is not fitting snug or Haus Pressure Pointe its dangerous

i thought i was the only one to see it :D

any excuse to show off
glad you mentioned the giro ledge definitely going to be picking one up for this season
Looking into buying it. Have you tried it out yet ?
@@razerbond1910 i’ve had one since 2016 great helmet
Heavy as hell compared to others imo.. opted for the method mips instead

I was curious about the same thing.
They gave the M5's (a lot) stronger magnets, I've seen in other reviews as well.
The best helmet is the helmet that fits the best. My favorit helmet is the Oakley mod1
Looking into buying the MOD1 or the Anon Rodan, sadly my local shop didnt have both in stock at the same moment so i cant really compare...
Damn whats happening at 1:12 😅

Headshape definitely comes into play!
you might've grabbed one of the round contour fit ones, there's 2 versions, the regular one (oval) and the round one
Same!!!
Picked up the regular one and feels like it’s made for oval heads, really sad… feels awesome

I just scored a new Giro Ledge MIPS for $45. It’s everything you say it is, and a bag of chips. It’s NICE. Thanks! 🙏
Would be nicer if the vents could open and close. Makes them more versatile.
That would be handy!

I have the Anon Merak with Wavecell. It’s expensive and their top priced helmet. But it’s so worth it. It’s comfortable as hell, has new technology.

No sandbox ?
They just aren’t has comfortable as the others. I put sandbox at 4
i just bought the smith maze idk if i made the best choice but i hope
how is it ? i might buy it for this season ...
can anyone please tell me where is this ski resort at 2:44 ?🫡
One thing for the maze if you don’t like the chrome just use a paint pen i perfectly covers it up
Thanks for the tip!
Hi kevin, i have anon m4 goggles, can and should i combine these with e.g. the smith maze helmet?
I usually use the helmet to keep me safe but also warm. Looking for comfortable inner lining and ear pads. No beanie needed.
What helmet do you recommend?
I think you forgot to put the links in the description?
Just updated!
My questions is if MIPS still works if you take the liner out and end up wearing a beanie under instead.

Sandbox 2.0 has been solid for me the last few years. Tends to slip back when going Mach 1 though bc of that sexy brim on it
Haha! I just had a flashback to riding fast in Whistler and the brim popping up!
Yes! This is what I waited for, thank you
Awesome!
I cant find a smith maze helmet with boa adjustment, and what happend to sandbox helmets?

Hey, man! Thanks for the awesome videos. Do you buy one size larger so it doesn't get too tight when wearing beanies? Thanks in advance!

I not a fan of magnetic lens, good helmet tho
looking to buy the smith maze what is a good goggle set up for under helmet
I am looking for one that fits right with a beanie because most of the helmets look gigantic on my head with a beanie
Which Size do you wear in Smith Maze?
Why was shortie standing with her pants down?
tried doing a front flip on time and had the smith helmet and dented it and my goggles broke too
What do you think of Ruroc helmet
I think the full face is too much.
@@SnowboardProCamp have you seen they also do a ‘lite’ version that isn’t full face?

I think it does still have that adjustable 3 setting thing. I’ve got mine in the largest one.
It does. The newer Method didn't change it up either. Three notches per side to snap in.
For anyone with big hair, the maze and allure will rip your hair out every time you take it off! Someone needs to tell smith to add a mesh liner
Smith Altus
How about goggles OUTSIDE? On altitudes of 600-1000 meters in +4°C you cannot wear googles all the time.

Smith and Giro are garbage concerning built quality. Look for Scott or Uvex instead. POC also good. I tested all major brands myself.
