That person's arrogance definitely wasn't great and it kinda backfired on them, but I'm still really shocked that nobody had a backup. I work as a (junior) developer and there's so many precautions in place to prevent this very thing from happening. Yeah, the last activity was traced back to her, but the company shouldn't have relied on this person's competence so quickly, especially knowing that they're a new grad. Multiple copies of the database should've been kept, and there should've been a rigorous process to even use those databases to begin with. It sounds like the company should've also taken better measures to protect their data.
She shouldn't have been fired. The whole company's IT infrastructure was a mess, she was just unlucky to make a mistake on prod. No backup? One person being able to just go and do things on prod? Fire the manager
I worked in IT for 23 years. We had multiple backups of our databases, we had lots and lots of databases. Even when I was a developer and entire IT department for a small business we had multiple backups for each company.
I think it’s really unnecessary of people to behave like that. She’ll have to learn how to be humble. However, I feel it’s crazy there wasn’t any backup of the data. I work as a developer with databases and not having any backup is like signing up for a disaster in the future. Backups are made for situations like these. That girl might have been arrogant, but the board, the managers and the developers should also be blamed. This id basic stuff.
Maybe I will be the devil's advocate but she should not have been fired. Development team was in complete dissarat if they did not have the backups and one person can do things like that by themselves. Management fault
But.. that has nothing to do with how unlikable she was. She was a new hire but was somehow able to wipe the whole database; above that, no-one had a backup??
So not nearly as severe as this, but I started work at Chick Fil-A the same day another guy did. I noticed him and thought something was a bit off, but didn't focus on that a ton. He got in trouble with management a couple of times at the beginning for not taking out his nose ring before working and was sent home his first day. Anyways, a few weeks later I was on break and sitting with a couple of girls who had worked with him. He came up in convo and, turns out, he had been showing up to work high. His eyes were always red and he was super slow doing things, which was a red flag alone, but the final straw was when they found him getting high (I think he was smoking weed?) in the bathroom while on-shift. Needless to say he was fired right then and there.
And this is why you don't let your job get to your head and you are very careful with programs and websites, database ect. one little mistake can cause a huge disaster. I think this is why i didn't get a. Job in acct agter i got my Associates in apllied accounting. I was scared i would make a huge mistake..
My job requires servers to be 19 to handle alcohol(state law) so when a girl was hired and discovered to be only 17 on her first day of training she was immediately fired lol not her fault, the manager that hired was not the same one that fired her(the hiring manager was rumored to because he thought she was pretty and she 100% told him her age in the interview) so that's the fastest I saw, nothing all that crazy
I hope that boss never took a recommendation from that person again.
A loss of $10 million dollars in sales is absolutely devasatating. She won't get a good high-paying job like that again for the rest of her I bet
Nah people with connection will get job it's sad
She had a big ego which costs her her job. She had ppl fired and I hope the boss never had to deal with her sgain
Like bro she could have been rich idk what company that is but if it gets 10 mil sales she would have got a lot of money

Totally agree. Feel sorry for all those depending on their bonuses too, thinking they'll go Christmas shopping.

how did nobody have a back up?
This! How does a massive online retailer not have automatic backups?
Her ego got the best of her. And how do you not have backup of everything. I hope from then on they backup everything
Pride comes before a fall.
She so tired she’s fired from her next job and just fired from her career I mean she lost 10m would she be be make that in her lifetime? Seriously

i work with databases too and we do the same - backups seem like a pain now, but in a disaster we'd be ready
As someone who works in IT, I second this. Yes she made mistakes but she wasn't the only one to blame.
Sounds like an ass, but she shouldn't have been fired. Those who didn't have a backup should've been
Their fault for letting the new hire have all that responsibility I mean hopefully they learned from that mistake.
I mean yes arrogance but also they’re the ones who assigned a newbie to do a job that complex.

Ahh what a way to humble people
I think someone planned a perfect revenge 🙊😅

Wait, the developers DON'T HAVE DB BACKUP??? I'd fire the IT Manager too

Guy got an interview. Was set to start the next day. Never showed up.
The new hire should be sued
Wow 😂😅
DAAAAAAMN!!!
Jesus Christ! That’s nuclear level of stupidity. I’m a web designer and developer. This the worst nightmare. 😱

Yeah she slept with her professor to get the recommendation
