Lmao when I first started minimalism I didn't know it was minimalism, I thought it was just "gettingridofwhatidontneedbecausemyroomisthesizeofacloset"-ism. So far, in 3 months, I've saved 700$ 😂😂😂

I have been decluttering so hard these past two weeks and the categories I have come through so far, I got rid of about half of my stuff, it's crazy.
and this process made me realise that I might need to get rid of my relationship too. damn. the path to minimalism really is clearing up my perception too.

Background: I just got home from backpacking 8months and living out of one bag for all this time I almost broke down coming home and being weighed down by all this needless crap I have (had) at home..

Selfishly, one of the great things of ethical shopping is that it reduces a lot your options. You can no longer buy anything from anywhere if that makes sense. I find that because every time Im thinking about buying something I have to research the company, the ingredients, materials, biodegradability and all that good stuff I tend to buy a lot less and my savings have improved a lot :)

Decluttering my toiletries is one of my favorite things! I enjoy the time doing researching alternatives while I use up what I have and replacing products with better things! Same with makeup!

Ugh, I have been shopping non stop for at least 8 years now, I still haven't filled the void! I probably won't be a minimalist, but I do appreciate these videos! It helps me reconsider what I am doing and open my mind up a bit more! Thank you!

This was a fantastic video. And it feels weird to say that actually because most videos i watch where tips are given, they never really seem that useful. Maybe that seems harsh but I tend to come away not feeling like I took much away from whatever it is I just watched or listened to. But from someone who has experienced the changes first-hand, these tips actually do revolutionise your life! So I suppose that's why, as I was listening to your advice, I couldn't help but feel how spot-on and beneficial they were on a large scale. Like you, I was forever buying clothes and collecting (because that's really all it was in the end) makeup, buying the next naked palette just because it existed. What's funny is that I didn't even have the social life to go out and wear these things! It was always that kind of fantasy you play out in your head of "one day..." or just imagining some life you don't actually have but hope to have. So silly. The change in my attitude and my approach to buying these past few months kind of has me taken back tbh. I just ordered some makeup from 100% pure a few days ago, after not wearing any makeup for about 6 months. I have always been a pretty natural gal but as time went on I felt I was beginning to be sucked into wanting to always look glam and perfectly done up what with makeup tutorials and gurus etc and was starting to get carried away collecting for the sake of it. I'm not sure what suddenly made me stop caring about makeup completely but it is freeing. Still, now I have had a little break and gotten comfortable, sometimes I want to "beautify" myself a bit haha. Bring out my lashes and brighten up my cheeks y'know. Anyway, I only ordered 4 items I intend to use for daily wear and which can be used for more than one thing in a couple of cases and then a red lippie because I couldn't resist haha. And I love that that, along with my tweezers and trusty eyelash curlers will fit in one small makeup bag and be all i need instead of some huge collection I barely touch.
Also, when you spoke about junk food and how "it will reduce your waste", for a moment I thought you meant 'waist' but then realised it was most likely the former. Not untrue though so I liked the accidental double entendre ;)

I just love these videos, just tips and tricks and advice and reminders about things that are good and bad for you. I don’t care if I’ve heard it 2 or 3 or 6 times already, I truly enjoy the declutter, minimalist, less wasteful lifestyle pep talks you put out.

I started to not buy any toiletries 1.5 years ago and I still have some left. I'm so excited for finally running out of everything and really get into making my own stuff.
Same with make up but I will probably never run out of all my things because the only thing I'm using at the moment is mascara and all the other things are just sitting in my drawers. I'll probably just throw it away or gift it to friends when I'll go to Australia next year.

  • @SF-kc6zv
    @SF-kc6zv 7 років тому +7

Totally agree! Stopping buying all of these things has saved me LOADS of money, and reduced my ecological footprint :) I stopped buying makeup, and I'm starting to make my own zero-waste makeup products as I run out of things. I recently made my own setting powder using arrowroot powder, cacao powder, turmeric, and cinnamon, all of which were purchased zero waste :) It was a pretty proud day haha

I love these kinds of videos, they are so motivating! I just made a blogpost about the same topic (in German) and my points were almost the same. Sometimes it's hard to stick to something like 'don't buy makeup' but when you realise how proud you are after 6 months of not buying makeup, it's so worth it! And in most cases as soon as you get used to it, you don't miss anything. And your hair looks sooo good btw!

I’ve been on my minimalism journey for 2months now and have saved €300 and feel like I’ve found so much more headspace and also started a capsule wardrobe this month I’m attempting to go vegan but I doubt it will last long and I’ll probably just end up going back to being vegetarian and next month I’m going no poo and or no plastic waste which I know will be hard but I’m excited 🌱🌻🌞🌿your channel is such an inspiration I’m so glad I found a channel like yours so I could learn about these things at a young age(13) so thank you and keep up the amazing work 🌸🌼🌺

I like to do challenges where I'll see how many days in a row I can go without spending any money-usually the thing that stops me is when I need to restock on groceries (hah) but it's definitely eye-opening to see how carelessly we spend. It's also a bit of a challenge in that it forces you to really get creative in the kitchen sometimes. ;)

I only buy a few pieces of clothes a year. I stay fit so I can continue to wear them. It is so liberating being able to control yourself. I also avoid malls for the most part! That is a HUGE help!

What do you recommend doing in terms of clothes in a situation where you're in a transitional phase of adult life? I'm at a point where I really am not in love with most of the stuff in my wardrobe. I can count the stuff I'd keep on one hand. Problem is I'm feeling very unsure about who I am and what my style is. I can't just totally purge it all and then not have ENOUGH clothes - but I feel like if I go shopping to "replace" this wardrobe it'll just continue in a cycle of impulse shopping since I don't really know what my style is. I feel kind of stuck.

I recommend buying basic clothes while you think about your personal style, you can try out some clothes at the store, take some pictures and not buy anything until you know if it suits you. Try to purchase good quality items that can be used on different occasions, like a white shirt, black pants, etc. They will look good with anything.

So far I've been successful with not buying clothes anymore (working at shop and seeing how they get to the store and how much waste that creates really helped) but instead, to satisfy my shopping obsession I just buy food. Tried to give myself a budget but there is this urge to buy something everyday be it tortillas beans or chocolate, such a waste of time but can't get rid of it. My dad has this obsession too, he can't go home after work without going to a supermarket!

Toiletries is one of the first places I started minimizing, although I have not switched to natural things yet. I do want to start doing research and trying it out once the things I have are used up. It's very exciting!

Toiletries' and hair products were my main decluttering area! I would always pick up something and after a few times I would realize it just made my hair greasy and not like the commercials! I've reduced quite a bit of items over the past year. Now I'm working on my waste. What do you think about the zero waste movement and will you try it out someday? Would love to see your journey!

Have you ever had problems with losing inspiration? I started out super excited about minimalism and decluttering, and now I am falling back into old habits of online shopping and shopping to make myself feel better. Do you have any tips to get re-inspired?

Kerrie Iris shop your wardrobe. Make a Pinterest board with stuff that interests you. Are there areas in your home that could be re-styled? Do that with things from the charity shop or even stuff you already own. Get a plant.

1:30 So you haven't given up clothes, you gave up buying more clothing than you need.
Is there anywhere in the world, (aside from the wilderness) where you can live full time, work, and do all your shopping without any clothing at all?
It seems kind of stupid to me, we teach our children that their body is gross and offensive then we wonder why body image is such a problem in teens.
And I think it is very unhealthy that most people in western culture so strongly associate nudity with sex.
