Celine’s voice is a natural powerhouse, that needs no pitch correction. So full of emotion and accuracy. Wish her all the best with her current health struggles. Thanks for showing us her natural talent Fil.
Hey ! Question? Are you showing us some old footage from b4 or since she lately started to come out.,I mean she will sing at the olympique2024. Who khow’s the song? 💁♀️from Montreal 🇨🇦…😊😊🥰❤❤❤
Some voices are just naturally pleasing and pure. Celine has that. Even with her personal health struggles, she still has a very recognizable sound. They should not mess with perfection. PERIOD.
Crazy that someone thought they could improve this. It’s like a museum art director seeing a Picasso and going, “Let me just fix these lines and move the eyes up so they’re more perfect so people will like it better.”
Imagine the hubris: here's a museum curator "touching up" the linework in Salvador Dali's the *Persistence of Time*: removing the rippling texture of the melting clock face to make it into just another draped plane bent flatly over the edge of a cube structure because they can't conceive of a reason other than failure to observe consistent perspective or maintain muscle control. Here's another, blending all of Van Gogh's massive and thick brush strokes until they are nothing but indiscrete gradients of muted color and value. Thank you for demonstrating so perfectly this thesis of all that is wrong with capitalism's influence on the arts.
You could AI all the Picassos, and turn them into pixar style. You just need a big enough printer that can handle the historical canvasses. Surely Zuckerberg or Altman would pay for it.. .
I made the art comparison a while ago. Or what about writers with very distinctive writing styles that require a little more work on the part of the reader? Let's "fix" them to make James Joyce and Michael Ondaatje easier for people to read, so that they'll appeal to more people. Of course, it sounds ridiculous if we suggest that people fix the work of other artists. Why is it okay to do it to singers??
@@Terri_MacKay I have conflicted feelings about written art and adapting its language: on the one hand, so much of what makes written work meaningful comes down to those choices that the author made. On the other hand, Shakespeare wrote his plays to be accessible for the intellectuals as well as the uneducated masses, and unless you have the time and resources to grow fluent in the language and culture of Elizabethan England, you really can't experience the plays in the same way that they were written, and I think that is also a shame. Of course, Shakespeare didn't actually publish most of his plays himself, if any, and performance art is fleeting by nature, but with art artifacts (paintings, published writings) we have to balance the desire to capture something like the original audience experience (the thing that was responsible in most cases for the item's preservation) with the integrity of the object itself. It's similar to what translators face when bringing texts to non-native speakers, and I find that fascinating in its own way.
According to her recent documentary...in this timeline she was alreading dealing with the beginnings of her "stiffness" illness so she was doing a lot of vocal adjustments in her concerts before she knew what what happening to her vocals. 😢 She still sounded great!
Thanks for the timeline. This song meant a lot to her - I think she needs it to be HER voice - Anyway I really appreciate your comment. As a fellow fan I’m holding my breath for her return to good health.
To think that she didn't know this wasn't happening is a bit naive. She's Celine in control of everything that's happening with her voice. She was the one behind the Correct Pitch Engineering.
There was a discussion on a audio engineering forum going on about which microphone Celine Dion used to record her voice, the engineer asking wanted to get the same sound for his project. Someone pointed out it is not just the microphone that makes her voice sound so good, it is her vocal technique and HOW she uses the microphone as an instrument, holding it at different angles to her breath, moving it away for certain passages, bringing it in close for others. Mic placement is pretty important and a pro will know how to get the most out of their tools.
Celine has a special gift and an incredible work ethic. I saw her live early in her Vegas residency, and she blew me away. No other singer could sing those kinds of vocal acrobatics so consistently with singing comparable to her studio recordings but energized even more by the fans in the room. It was love embodied! She needs no pitch correction. Her pitch nuances are sung with intention and artistry. As we've learned recently with her illness revelations, singing is her life and her fans are her beloved inspiration. And she pulled out all the stops and owned Paris this evening. It was pure love. She amazes me as both a one-of-kind singer and a genuinely lovely soul. She is one is my inspirations!
Only goes to show that Producers simply don't know squat !!! Celine's voice is so bang on. I'm sooooo glad we got a revisit of this piece. Well done by fan for capturing it. VERY well done Fil for providing an analysis on a voice we already knew was perfect.

I'll never forget how she sang every song, every note just perfectly and live. (It was an Oprah show if you want to try and find it)
As I understand it during her Las Vegas residency she not only was aware of the correction but accepted it because she knew that during some performances she wouldn't be where she wanted to be, probably because she was dealing with some health issues longer than most people know.

Hi Fil, Celine’s voice is simply beautiful! This is a hard song to sing, but she nails it. That one held note is fabulous, the tone, the quality and the length, very remarkable. Glad to hear the crowd shot footage and thank you for pointing out how good the natural voice can be. You Are The Best… Debbie ☮️
I believe her semitone low and all other "mistakes" were on purpose, it's the natural way of singing, making it more exciting and emotional by creating a bit tension.
As a singer, I can tell you she is hitting the notes exactly where she wants to hit them. To a machine it may seem like they are "sharp" or "flat", but that's exactly where she intended for the emotion, the inflection, the delivery to be on those particular notes. You know this too, Fil, as you are an excellent singer. Thank you for continuing to expose the incredible injustice being done to live singing by this misguided entourage of dopes who are insisting on pitch correcting everything🤦🤨
Her voice, especially when she was young was insanely mesmerising. Apparently on days she performed she would not talk to anyone and only communicate by writing notes in order to save her voice. Not sure if that was all the time or just for big performances.
WOW! Celine never ceases to amaze me! Hearing just her vocals without the music (and without pitch correction) is all the proof I need- she is definitely the GOAT in my book! Although a very close second goes to Martina McBride, who also needs no pitch correction. Incidentally, in the 90s, Martina was often called the Celine Dion of Country.
Crazy thing is that she had loat her voice that morning. There was a documentary done with thuis tour. She could barely speak before going on stage. When she hits the big bone you see her face surprised she did it. But she was upset afterwards and worried she hurt her voice. This makes it even more amazing.
Fil, I love the look on your face when you encounter wonderful music and skilled singers. I am not a huge fan of Celine, but I cannot deny her amazing powerhouse voice.
The issue with live vs recorded/pitch corrected is: if the instruments live are tuned slightly flat/sharp, a singer will subconsciously correct their voice to be in tune with those instruments. Then if the singer later is pitch corrected, the singer then sounds off!
Celine has been a powerful force in the music world since the world was introduced to her at Eurovision in 1988. On first hearing you just know she’s on a higher plane then most any other singers of her era
Once, in my early producer career I produced this girl, she was the most gifted singer I’ve ever worked with, her voice was angel like, she was also a dedicated violin player and what else ……she was very beautiful. I literally fall in love with her !! Jaja The story,….once we finished the song I dared to try out autotune just out of curiosity. I was blown away. She was within +- 15 cents or less of perfect pitch !! Sometimes 20 cents tops , I couldn’t believe it. My conclusion, or at least one of them is since she was violinist from childhood and self taught singer THAT must’ve been what had influence in her voice performance
Pitch correction, of course, ruins all songs, but it will absolutely slaughter a song like "All By Myself." If sung with actual free human feelings and emotions, the song will be moody, uneven and "inaccurate" in some ways. A robot cannot duplicate these human feelings or emotions. The sound engineer took a perfectly good track and mutilated it. It isn't art anymore. It's trash.
Unfortunate that the Olympic Ceremonies were a pitch corrected recording. I would have loved to hear her singing naturally. Watch his follow-on analysis after the Olympics.
@@MossyMozart according to this video anyway, many performances from her have been pitch corrected for a very long time, so the Olympics was no exception. Plus it was outdoors and under the rain (not good for worldwide TV broadcast). Therefore, it was also recorded. In the good old days when she still could sing. The day before.
Phil thanks for brining the truth to the music world and letting us see and hear what makes Celine's voice a unique gift. She is a beautiful, generous, humble superstar.
I read that too. I was surprised as I understood that she still struggles with vocal chord issues. How amazing that would be if she does indeed sing again. 💙
@@Nobody-b6z Probably pre-recorded, but WHEN is the big question? Too perfect for a sick woman to sing that live I think. Very impressing if she actually did!
@@FlowerbrancheI read an article confirming that it was live. They wanted her to record it. I don’t know if she did but the article mentioned that she absolutely wants to sing live.
Auto/pitch correct removes the unique and wonderful richness and emotional value of any song. The song becomes sterile. During the time period of this and other live performances, Celine was, and still is, suffering from SPS. This has a huge negative impact on her voice. So, for her to achieve such outstanding results when she sang is almost a miracle - it certainly reflects on her determination and fight to continue singing!! Queen Celine is definitely one of the VERY BEST singers in the world 👏👏❤️❤️👏👏❤️❤️👏👏❤️❤️👏👏
Thanks for this, my appreciation of Celine Dion grows. A quick request if you’ve not done it previously… Sade, maybe at Live Aid? It would be interesting to get your take on her unique voice.
The Eb5 AnyMOOORE note at the climax is actually lip-synched to a pre-recorded track which is in fact auto-tuned/pitch corrected, hence the straight line and you can hear the effect. But everything else is 100% live.
I know someone who has a perfect pitch. They say they hate concerts because they can hear every inaccuracy and it's rorturw to listen to some autotuned to high heavens on album singer live. The only show they enjoyed was Celine Dion because she is so on point most of the time.
I think she did sing the "any" live but the big "moooooore" is a pre-recorded track that took over. And at the end of the "more", she went back live. This is what I hear since the volume is not even the same.
i’ve been saying this for a while, i feel bad for singers who are on stage singing and then get accused of lipsynching when the performances air on tv and they’re retouched or replaced by the backtrack lol
Natural voice will allways be my first choise. Im sick and tired of hearing this overproduced fake crap coming out from the speekers when listening to radio every day.
When Eric Carmen sings this song, it's perceived as being overall a little under (by me at least) and not entirely pitch perfect either, and I think it's purposely done to add an emotional quality. It would be interesting to see his live performance being tracked as well. Celine deserves so much recognition for being an absolute master of her craft.
The pitch corrected version that you had analysed before and this one are from different performances. Check her hand gestures right before the chorus at the beginning.
Taking all the pitch correction aside, you should also know that the Eb5 analyzed in the other video was completely dubbed despite being lipped to the track analyzed here. Anything released on that dvd that was lip synced was completely dubbed over with a different track. UA-cam made it so easy for people to look at every single tours dvd and put the pieces together. 2009 was the first time they decided to update tracks, some of which had already been on 7 or 8 live official releases. They were then immediately updated AGAIN in 2011 (all of them except all by myself, which maintained it's 2008 track, perhaps since that track wasn't yet fearured in a live release).
No doubt she has a beautiful voice. I’ve been listening to her since her early days and loved her performances. But I saw her in concert a few years ago and I could tell something was wrong. She was so frail and her voice sounded strained at times. After watching her documentary, I know what was happening to her. I feel so bad that she’s suffering with such a horrible disease. Pitch correction is like many things in life. Just because we can do it, doesn’t mean we should.
Mr. Wings of Pegasus, can you do a voice analysis on Celine's performance at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony this past Friday? I am curious about your opinion and expertise on how good she performed after all these years. Thank you for your outstanding work and professionalism.
OH YESSSSS! Celine singing the late great singer/songwriter, ERIC CARMEN, song “All by Myself”!! This song was Eric’s number one selling song. I wonder if he ever heard Celine sing it? If he did, I’m sure it would have brought a proudful smile to his face. 🙂
Pretty sure he heard it. He earned 💲every time it was downloaded or played on the radio. Reckon Dolly Parton ever heard Whitney sing I Will Always Love You?
@@YatesNYC He would adore what Eric Carmen has done and would be grateful Eric was able to popularize it which resulted in millions of new listeners to the second movement of his concerto. Composers want their music to be heard and to live on long after they have passed. 😁
The little supposed incorrect notes are needed so the performance isn’t robotic… Good to hear the original version! I guess it’s the no child left behind policy to not completely obliterate the current singers that don’t even know when they’re off… Great video
Didn't see the Olympics Opening Ceremony, but, wondering if the video they put up today has been pitch corrected. Sounds great and I can hear the clanging of her outfit.
Sorry that pantheon had all seats occupied half a century earlier already: Patti, Melba, Sembrich, Boninsegna, Destinn, Lotte Lehmann, Frida Leider. The last ones we squeezed in were Mado Robin (kicking out Emma Albani) and Mara Zampieri (Callas had to return to her old job as a streetwalker, sorry for the Greek slut). No chance for microphone-clutching freaks with forgettable voices. Stop talking as if amplified pop music was real music!
at this concert celine was havingba problem with her throath.. they didnt know that it was her symptoms of SPS. that is why she is strugling... as she said to interview that she is finding her voice and she gets more nasal just to sing..
❤😊 spot on! I have to chuckle all the folks commenting saying "not a fan of Céline Dion but she has an amazing vocal talent." Lol. She's sung a lot of different styles... And singing in her native French is an entirely other experience... Maybe folks can try listening to some of her music beyond her best known hits! 😊🎶
"I had some good stuff. I think I was good" Celine says in a heartbreaking moment in the recent documentary. I'd say she was more than "good" , I'd say she is one of the Greatest ever recorded. Ps I'd still really love to see a video like this on one of the great Classical singers today..Cecilia Bartoli singing at the house of some friends in Napoli. "Cecilia Bartoli sings Ti voglio tanto bene (De Curtis) for neapolitan friends". Also "crowd shot footage" 🤣And other than that phone filming..not a microphone in sight. We know absolutely for a fact..that is an actual human voice
She is one of the greatest! also that era (2007 - 2013) contains some of her best vocals. I hope she realizes that. But as we said we are here for the tree
Was nice to see her at the NHL draft naming the habs(Canadians) pick and on the big stage once again in Vegas. It's sad when natural(or learned) talent is no longer appreciated and the filtering out of emotions from music is becoming a standard.
Could you cover Shawn Phillips ? His 'Second Contribution' album is a masterpiece and he plays every instrument you hear on it. His voice is in a category of its own ! He has remained humble & is also an E.M.T. !
Fil, have you ever discussed singers’ usage of pure intervals versus equal tempered tuning? Auto tuning may default to equal temperament which can make pure tuned 3rds and 6ths sound slightly sharp or flat against instruments or a computer grid. People who sing and/or listen to choral music or even barbershop know this phenomenon.
Phil please analyze her singing The Power of the Dream at the opening ceremony of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games. She is making the start of her comeback this Friday in Paris at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic games. The first time she’s sung since her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis.

I think as you say pitch correction can eliminate the emotional that the artist wants to put into their performance.Cheers,Roly🇬🇧.
Thank you Fil I appreciate it
Once, in my early producer career I produced this girl, she was the most gifted singer I’ve ever worked with, her voice was angel like, she was also a dedicated violin player and what else ……she was very beautiful. I literally fall in love with her !! Jaja
The story,….once we finished the song I dared to try out autotune just out of curiosity. I was blown away. She was within +- 15 cents or less of perfect pitch !! Sometimes 20 cents tops , I couldn’t believe it. My conclusion, or at least one of them is since she was violinist from childhood and self taught singer THAT must’ve been what had influence in her voice performance
Celine has such a powerful voice which does not need any pitch correction. Great live performance and analysis as well. 😊🎸🎵
It's trash.
Watching this after her majestic performance at the Olympics!
I saw celine live, and let me tell you, hearing her sing this live is more amazing than you could ever imagine, unforgettable experience ❤
Phil thanks for brining the truth to the music world and letting us see and hear what makes Celine's voice a unique gift. She is a beautiful, generous, humble superstar.
Holy heck, what a talent.
There are very VERY few vocalists of Celine's caliber. Pitch correction is vandalism.
Nice video Fil.And Celine has arrived in Paris amid rumors she will sing at the Paris Olympics great news if true.
I read that too. I was surprised as I understood that she still struggles with vocal chord issues. How amazing that would be if she does indeed sing again. 💙
@@Elaine_Parhamovich To a certain extent she does but she is feeling much better as well
@@Nobody-b6z Probably pre-recorded, but WHEN is the big question?
Some big artist should release a song with all the notes perfectly pitched between the tuning. Maybe that will wake everybody up.
Thanks for this, my appreciation of Celine Dion grows. A quick request if you’ve not done it previously… Sade, maybe at Live Aid? It would be interesting to get your take on her unique voice.
Many thanks for this video! I've never seen anything like that - quite interesting hearing all the details.
Great Vid! Celine is a lovely lady with a beautiful voice.
The Eb5 AnyMOOORE note at the climax is actually lip-synched to a pre-recorded track which is in fact auto-tuned/pitch corrected, hence the straight line and you can hear the effect. But everything else is 100% live.
She soooooo good. JUST TOP TIER
Her singing gives me goosebumps ❤
I know someone who has a perfect pitch. They say they hate concerts because they can hear every inaccuracy and it's rorturw to listen to some autotuned to high heavens on album singer live. The only show they enjoyed was Celine Dion because she is so on point most of the time.
I think she did sing the "any" live but the big "moooooore" is a pre-recorded track that took over. And at the end of the "more", she went back live. This is what I hear since the volume is not even the same.
Yep. I’m glad you pointed this out. I’m surprised Fil didn’t catch it. This is something she has done with this song for years.
Thanks for this Fil ❤️ Celine
Celine Dion really needs no pitch correction. It removes SO much 👍👍
Same with Barbra
i’ve been saying this for a while, i feel bad for singers who are on stage singing and then get accused of lipsynching when the performances air on tv and they’re retouched or replaced by the backtrack lol
Natural voice will allways be my first choise. Im sick and tired of hearing this overproduced fake crap coming out from the speekers when listening to radio every day.
Celine's voice is in a class by itself.
I think she was sickly at that performance. I watched a video on pre performance and she still nails it!!!! Naturally!!!!!
Omg this version sounds sooooo much better than the pitch corrected one! Why mess with greatness??
I just heard Celine sing at tne Paris Olympics. Goosepimples, just wow...
Mr. Wings of Pegasus, can you do a voice analysis on Celine's performance at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony this past Friday? I am curious about your opinion and expertise on how good she performed after all these years. Thank you for your outstanding work and professionalism.
Working on it currently!
She was much better than the 2015 version
Just some of the intervals in that song are really, really hard. She’s a pro. She’s spectacular! I pray she can come back to full time performing.
I wonder what Rachmaninoff's opinion of All By Myself would be.
@@YatesNYC He would adore what Eric Carmen has done and would be grateful Eric was able to popularize it which resulted in millions of new listeners to the second movement of his concerto. Composers want their music to be heard and to live on long after they have passed. 😁
I enjoyed this very much. :)
She was such an amazing powerhouse of a singer. Sad what is happening.
Still is. She isn't out yet.
The little supposed incorrect notes are needed so the performance isn’t robotic…
Good to hear the original version!
I guess it’s the no child left behind policy to not completely obliterate the current singers that don’t even know when they’re off…
Great video
WOW!!!! @9:53 *SO MUCH POWER AND PURE MAGICAL GORGEOUSNESS!!!* 💗💗💗
Didn't see the Olympics Opening Ceremony, but, wondering if the video they put up today has been pitch corrected. Sounds great and I can hear the clanging of her outfit.
9:56 Jesus Christ 😲 That's why Celine is in the Pantheon of the goddesses of singing alongside with Barbra and Whitney
Have a look at her Olympic presentation.
Celine can do magic.
His 'Second Contribution' album is a
masterpiece and he plays every instrument you hear on it. His voice is in a
category of its own ! He has remained humble & is also an E.M.T. !
Pitch correcting her voice is just wrong. She doesn't need it.
She doesn't need corrections. She just hits the notes minutely.
Imagine the vibrato of a love-child between Celine Dion and Aaron Neville.
Just discovered your channel! You are a revelation to me, and my mind g he as been blown off. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🙏
👍
Please do Linda Eder, any of her live belts.
Please do an older video from. Before SPS. I'd like to see how often she hits the line before her illness.
If music were food, music majors have condemned us to a diet of mars bars and pringles.
