Could you cut out a piece of glass to size first and attach it to the window, and then carefully crack each individual pane to give them each a unique pattern of cracks? The way you do it in the video is perfect for a large single pane but it looks like the crack is originating from the same point for all the separate panels. You could keep a couple of panes intact that way also. Would that be something worth trying to see how that looks? I don't currently have any spare glass as foolish me threw out our old ones not long ago or I would try it.

If I put a piece of clear tape behind thin glass and leave it there would I get the same results?
I think yes, you just need to find very thin glass
