My mother made my father beef stroganoff basically every year for his birthday that I can remember. I decided to take a crack at stroganoff with your recipe. He leaned over and whispered, “don’t tell your mother, this is the best stroganoff I’ve ever had “
This man is a national treasure, and should be protected at all times. So skilled, yet makes things so easy.
Like the photo icon - Gus F.
He's one in a million.
It's because he's so skilled that he can make it easy. He knows the recipes and techniques so well that he can dumb them down for those of us who haven't been cooking for as long as he has. And that's definitely why he's one of the best chefs on YT.
Secret Service protects this national treasure, at all times!!!
🙂
100%
After 10 videos with the Chef, I don't know if my cooking has gotten any better, but my blood pressure is down and I find myself smiling a lot more...
I got a heart from the Chef. I can now retire to an easy life of making beef and chicken broth, while mincing my onyo's, clarifying my butter, and watching the Playboy channel.
😁
Chef Jean Pierre is a miracle worker. I made this for the family today. Not only did everyone love it, but my nine year old son was so impressed that he not only wants to take it to school as his lunch tomorrow, but next time I make it, he wants to help so he can learn.
That's so precious. ❤️
That's REALLY cool. That was a year ago - is your son helping with more?
@nevastrong2850 Yes. He regularly wants to help make food now. His favourite is a simple homemade tomato sauce, homemade meatballs, and pasta. He has asked for a pasta machine for Christmas. My eldest son (13) makes a mean spicy sausage rice dish every Monday for dinner. He even adapted the original Gordon Ramsey recipe to add additional spices and Nduja sausage.
Nice.👌🏻
That's awesome! It's great when kids get excited about being in the kitchen with you. I taught my kids how to cook at a very early age, and taught them how to make their own butter and breads, desserts, etc. When they got to about 5-6, they had a lemonade stand with cookies they helped make (they did all the mixing and rolling, and I did the baking for obvious reasons). My youngest is now an awesome stepmother and last night told me that her daughter named her favorite dish I used to make for them. Basically, it's macaroni and cheese, chili beans, ground beef, corn and rotel tomatoes. The name she came up with - "Macaroni Mayhem"! I love it!
I've been home cooking for over 45 years and I never heard of using the strainer technique in using flour thickener in the manner. Many huge thanks for this tip alone.
I got the exact same vibe. I've learned so much since I started watching him. I was such a good cook... but now I'm a better cook.
Yes blew my mind too, gramma never showed me that. But she never served me lumpy gravy either. I wonder if she knew?
Legit, do that technique by accident!!!
Exactly, It s amazing, and has been extremely helpful for me in cooking in general ; not just this recipe
Same here! It makes so much sense, it's genius
Life would really be sad without Chef Jean-Pierre
TRUTH
Yes it would be
💞 You are the best !
Thank you so much! Live would be sad for me without UA-cam! I love interacting with you all!!!😍😍😍
Thank you, Chef... learning made easy....you're fantastic!!
I can't believe I found an authentic french chef who is teaching me all things beef in English. And he's so entertaining. Je suis très heureux. Hallelujah.
I am a woman from Montreal Canada. I thought that I knew how to cook until I started to watch you and replicate your recipes . After months of following your incredible teaching, I have learned so much and I am very thankful to you for the knowledge and for the laughter you have brought into my life. Félicitations et Merci Jean-Pierre!
I’ve learned so much from Chef too!! 👨🍳
This meal is gonna make any man really happy :)
I learned a lot from the tips he gives...like when to cook what first...and to put liquid over garlic after you smell it.
Not only is he an excellent cook with a sense of humor, he is entertaining.... Mama Mia.
Holy Macaroni, you're so right :)))))
the trick with adding the flour with a strainer is sheer genius. best cooking tip i've learned all year!
Or dust the beef in flour before frying it off.
@@MaZEEZaM not the best idea... if you scorch the flour, it will taste bitter, and it prevents getting the proper Maillard reaction in caramelizing the beef. Add your flour as a separate step, or make a roux.
My mom had a strainer with a coat hanger like handle that would rub the screen made for sifting flour growing up.
Moi assi
right???
I'm an Aussie bloke who's been cooking for about 30 years first as a Bachelor then Husband. I love Chef Jean-Pierre because everything he says I heard form my Mother & Father (Italian) who taught me how to cook from a young age. However - now I will say "Onyun" from now on because it sounds more sophisticated!
oh yeah!!
So true about "oy-yun". LOL
Onyo is his official spelling lol - see other vids 🤣🤣🤣
I feel you, I learned how to cook stroganov from a young age as my dad was a sous chef. He always liked to use top round and made it a little more "quick" but damn it was good. I watch many cooking channels to hone my skills.
He sounds so casual about his cooking, but his steps and procedures are spot on.
this guy might be the happiest french person on the planet
I remember as a child browning small cubes of beef with my mother until the frypan took on a dark brown color. Fond memories.
*Frond* memories ;-)
I see what you did there! 😂
Hahahah nice one
Ah! I see what you did there...
Very nice!!! 😍😍😍
My wife made this for me, today for Father's Day. I am a "non-professional chef" that has been cooking for 30+ years. I have 10 meals that I rank in "my" cook book and this just knocked off my #1. This is SIMPLY AMAZING!
That is awesome! You wife is a keeper!!! 😂😍😂😍
I made this dish for my family and I will never use another stroganoff recipe. My goodness it was so good!!! The only problem is now my family thinks I can cook. I have a lot to learn but I am excited for the journey.
Haha, now yer stuck!
Your comment just cracked me up. ❤
Probably never imagined that that's what they (also) mean with "you reap what you sow". So if you get into gardening next, you're gonna be your family's private tripple Michelin star.
Morning my friend---When you say {FRIEND}--I feel you are speaking to me and I answer "Okay"---Stay Safe
Lol
You cook the way I like to cook set everything up and have fun while doing it
Me too
What kind of recipe do you have for breaded beef liver
🤣🤣🤣😘
The best part is when Chef Jean calls us friends
Actually, Jean-Pierre is a first name, (hyphenated first name? in French we say "composé"). So if you say Chef Jean, it sounds like you're speaking of someone else ;-)
@@gaetangarcia2548 Oh, thanks
@@gaetangarcia2548 It's called "double-barrelled" in English.

I put a little bit of butter in there…surprise! I love it! You’re awesome Chef Jean Pierre, and you have a delightful sense of humor…nothing straight faced about my fav chef.
Yep! Love my butter too 😀👍
Not only do I love your recipes, I love your sense of humor! You add a little adult humor and secrets for ingredients! Thank you.
I really liked the part where you whipped out a book that I never even heard, explained the significance of the book and went into the history of the dish. I hope to see you do more of that in the future.
Me too. Its the Bible of the kitchen. Can't argue it down. I am now looking for it for my kitchen. Keep hanging with chef jean and keep having fun in the kitchen.
Was it not written by Escoffier himself?
Yes I now had to buy it.
@@seannel7464that’s another one, a little difficult to follow by now because it’s really, really rich Court food and you don’t usually have quenelles or macarons waiting in your kitchen, or ten helpers to prepare them while you cook…
@@tessabrisac7423 I've seen the stock recipe in it. That recipe alone is enough to be glad of the simpler foods in life!
THE ONYO IS ALWAYS NUMBER ONE!
how long is everyone gonna beat this dead horse
the fact I got a heart just proves he's tired of it too
Loly joly
@@ImEverythingYouCrave no he just loves it
He's right tho. As a chef. Cooking.. onion is pretty much (always) first to soften and release flavour.
Simply the best cooking show on UA-cam.
I am a really good cook but this man is a chef! I have been watching him all week! Don’’t say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! I learned something incredible this week about making a Salisbury Steak! I followed his technique and it was amazing!
👍👍👍😊
Chef Jean-Pierre is precious & deserves profound respect! Thank you for all that you do, sir. Warmest regards from Canada 🇨🇦!
I cooked that original recipe of yours several times. I LOVE it. So many people were telling me it wasn't a "stroganoff" but all they'd ever had was Hamburger Helper. Some people don't know their ass from a pork roast :P
😂😂😂 Tell them to call whatever they want!
Hahaha! You made me laugh out loud for real.
Between you and Chef, my Monday has begun with an infectious laugh, a willingness, and a whole BUNCH of love.
(The recipe is so so soooo good.)

I'm a 53-year old from Cape Town, and while recovering from Covid, you became my new UA-cam bestie Chef JP. You're an absolute culinary genius!!! I've subscribed and the bell will be rung. Best wishes with your 3rd career.
Chef when you pulled out that book as reference to disprove all the youtube cooking police, as we call them "haters", I started laughing out loud!!! 🤣😂 you are truly the best🇨🇵🇮🇹🇺🇸
I laugh 😃 out loud my self.
That was a good one UA-cam cooking police. I like that 😂❤
I was taught to make beef stroganoff with ground beef, onions, mushrooms, and cream of mushroom soup. Now just the thought of eating it that way makes me sick to my stomach. This is THE BEST. I am so excited to try this recipe. I have been laid up almost all year long with different feet surgeries and I've ADORED watching EVERY SINGLE ONE of your recipes. I'm moving in February, and I can't wait to cook all of your recipes in my new home. BRAVO CHEF, I love ya!!! :)
👍👍👍🙏😊
I too have made poor man stroganoff. Doesn't sound good at all anymore.
ground beef? bleeeccccchhhh!
That's how my mother made it! (And she's Russian!!!) I never thought it was that bad growing up. Then I started experimenting with stew beef, fresh mushrooms, chardonay, and then mixing in about a cup of sour cream at the end, after you turn off the heat. What a difference!
Same. My mom made it that way in the 60s. I improved it quite a bit over the years since, but Chef gave me a lot of insight on how to do it even better.
Jean-Pierre is my hero. I have learned such simple tricks that I constantly use almost every day. My wife and I caretaker two beautiful ladies and I do the cooking. Thank you for bringing your recipe’s to help make foods taste more delicious than ever.
This is the second recipe from this channel I've made for the wife. She absolutely loved it. I really appreciate ya, Chef.
That trick with the flour and the strainer in the stew is brilliant. Thank you!
Yes pure genius
I really really love chef French accent. Onyo is not only giving fully cordial feeling but witty sense of humor also.
I love the way you cook. No measurements, just feeling and common sense. And everything comes out perfect. I’d like to see more recipes for two people.
I absolutely love how human he is at cooking!!! Other chefs are so precise and spot on. He sometimes makes mistakes and just soldiers on!!! He is so freaking great!!! Thank you chef for being real!!!
🙏🙏🙏😊❤️
🙏🙏🙏❤️
I find myself smiling the entire time I watch your videos.
Chef is amazing ,such a charisma! Would love to have him as my cooking chef teacher!
You do! Every time he posts a video! 😃💗
Easy cooking, great meals without the pretentious snobbery from a self-righteous chef. I love this channel!
I cannot go a day without watching this inspiring Chef. He educates, definitely lifted my cooking skills off the charts and makes the whole experience fun and enjoyable. When one can do a profession for over 50 years and still have that zest, excitement and clear enjoyment doing it, one knows we have the "real deal". Thanks for all those years of UA-cam recipes! They're the first thing I look at in the morning. I should add, my local grocer doesn't mind the extra sales of "onyo", garlic and butter he is making either😂😂
reallly enjoy Chef Jean Pierre's videos: his humor, his recipes and ability to teach. watch him all the time. He is very comforting.
BEST CHEF EVER IN CAPITAL LETTERS. Thank you very much Monsieur.
Chef Jean-Pierre you are exactly what the world needs right now
Thank you for you.
Thank you Chef! My life is complete now that I have found your channel! I have loved everything that I have made! Thank you for showing us all your marvelous recipes! Merci Beaucoup! Annie
Not only do you get a cookery lesson but you also get a history lesson about the food, not many chefs do that which is a shame as l think you should know some history about the food you eat. And, as always, chef Jean-Pierre is brilliant doing both. His channel is the best on UA-cam and if you are not watching it then you are missing out even if you don’t or can’t cook you will be inspired to by chef Jean Pierre. I hope you make more recipes as l could watch and listen to you cook all day. Live long and happy chef Jean-Pierre 😊
Hahahah "I can hear the recipe police 'hes not measuring!'... were not sending a man to the moon here, were just making a beef stew, so its ok if its a little bit different each time", that was great
I love it when he says, "Don't forget to measure carefully!" as he tosses stuff into the pot, willy nilly. If you know what you're doing, you don't need to measure anything.
My favorite part of the video. Everyone's always got something to correct in the comments section. Cooking isn't always about getting everything exactly right.
@@MCJSA It's an "experience thing". After so many years of doing something, many professionals can "guestimate" so closely that measuring is a waste of time. Besides, later in finishing most dishes, you are " seasoning to taste" which requires no measuring, and is done literally by how it tastes. Cooks and Chefs who do not taste their food will never put out their best work .
@@scottcrawford3745 Exactly. we're not sending a man to the moon, we are using our knowledge of deliciousness to get our fellow man to enjoy food. An artist can paint a painting that you'll never forget, a chef can make you a dish that you'll never forget. One thing I do dislike; people taking pictures of food. Just enjoy it, tell your friends what it tasted like, how good was the ambiance, how you felt.. Don't catalog it like some desk clerk making a report.
That's how we do it in Africa. Our food tend to be a bit different each time cos we don't necessarily measure our ingredients all the time! So nice to hear that from such a seasoned chef!
I'm so glad that you've redone this recipe. I looked about a year ago and was sad the video was gone but am very happy that you've brought this recipe back.
I love how Chef Jean teaches us all his secrets, got lots to learn
What an absolute joy this channel is to watch. Thank you so much for making these videos!!
“The onyo is always #1” should be on a t-shirt with an image of you holding a giant onion 🧅

Thursday’s with Jean-Pierre, my heart is full. I can’t wait to make this!
My last name is actually 'Rinderer'...my family is from Flums, Switzerland and Bavaria, Germany. My foster mother's name was 'Calvi'. She was from Hingham, Mass...but most of her siblings and parents were from Palermo, Sicily. Advice: don't EVER tell a Sicilian they look Italian. What a challenge it is growing up in an Italian household!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! Anyway, I'd like to ask you a favour please...please do more Russian & German dishes.
Watching over 12 years of cooking videos and Chef Jean-Pierre is a dude like no others!!! I really love your classic way of cooking and I prefer sticking to the roots
Just found your channel and love watching you cook. Pure entertainment!! Thanks Jean-Pierre!!

I can’t tell you how much I relate to your love of food; the preparation, the anticipation, flavor, smell, visual aesthetics, the art, everything! I love cooking. I love how food doesn’t care about problems in the world; politics, social issues, family problems, financial crises, or anything else. It’s just food. It’s magic.

All that goodness mixed with humor equals SPLENDID (with french accent )

This man is a treasure.
My family really enjoyed this Chef, the entire pot was finished by 7pm last Saturday when my kids, grandkids, a d spouses came over… I made this with your Caesar Salad recipe and a nice French Bread… Love me some Chef Jean-P!!!

Thank you for being an inspiration, chef Jean
