I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on UA-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

The greatest performance ever. Barely 9 and does her own arrangements. No words can describe this incredible young lady. The band calls her The Boss. There is absolutely no one out there as good as her. Her respect, humbleness and humanitarianism make her one of a kind.

I've been waiting for you to get to this. I knew you would appreciate it. "The Boss" controlled this arrangement to get exactly what she wanted. Most have to watch it several times to make sense of what we just saw. Our minds have trouble making sense of what our eyes see and ears hear. This performance was phenomenal from start to finish And the last note was frosting on the cake. Not only her voice, control, methods, but also her presence, hands and arms gestures, facial expressions, putting her whole body into the performance when rose on her tip toes. She's feeling this song and she made us feel it. Good reaction. Every song she does is remarkable but there are a handful that blow the top off likelihood, even possibility. This is one of those.

I have watched at least 50 reactions to this video. But I never enjoyed a reaction as much as this. Your genuine appreciation of AJ's talent and ability to deliver emotion is palpable. I hope that you can continue to show restraint and work you way through the year-by-year growth of this wondrous talent. This was just a couple of weeks after Angelina turned 9. I think that there is a wealth of remarkable stuff to see during her 10-year old year. I will leave it up to others to guide you to specific videos from her concerts that year. The one caveat that I would add is do not bypass either of the two outstanding live deliveries by AJ of "Feeling Good." Either will do because both are great. One other thought for those who will guide you. Please be sure that Alex gets a chance to see jovial/upbeat Angelina in songs like "I Feel Good", "Lovin' You" or "Somethings Got a Hold on Me!" From stories I read years ago, this was an all day studio effort by Screamin' Jay. He actually couldn't do what the producer wanted and his sax accompanist (Sam 'The Man' Taylor) took him out of the studio midway thru the day and got him drunk. It was only then that he truly let his hair down and finished the session and came away with that masterpiece. I'm willing to bet it didn't take Angelina more than a couple of hours at the most to come up with her rendition, which is shocking.

It's not just that she's covering Screamin' Jay Hawkins original version (I'm not aware of any other such direct covers,) nor is it just that it's the most difficult version to cover, nor is it even that she's only 9 years old for this performance. It's all of those things together, which is greater than the sum of the parts.

A lot of her Angels have called this a masterpiece from a 9 year old. I simply just call this fantastic! You were wondering what she is going to sound like when she's 15, 16, and now 17 years old? All I can say is that her voice has become better, stronger, and she has a lot more control with what she wants to do with her voice. Like all great singers, her voice is unique now, in a very good way! When she begins to sing, you automatically will say to yourself, " Yeah, that's Angelina!"

9 !!! She helped rearrange the song. Often times, when the lyrics to a song are not appropriate for her, the lyrics are changed to accommodate her. Those songs then truly become hers. Next time you watch this wait for the very end and watch her raise her right arm and put it on a ledge as she looks straight ahead and she is in deep thought, "Could I have done it better?" We all know Angelina has the power to belt with the best of them, but the great thing about Angelina is that she only uses that power if it is needed. If it's not required for the song, she doesn't do it. If you are continuing chronologically, I would say you are in for a treat when you get to Angelina at age 10, a benchmark year for her. You will see not only the additional tools she has added to her vocal abilities, but you will also see her honing her stage presence. I promise you, EVERY song at age 10 is a masterpiece.

This was the first song I heard her sing. First I had to stop in the middle to make sure I wasn’t slipping into the dark. When I listened to it all the way I was worried about her vocal cords. Then with the next song I heard I knew that wasn’t a worry.

She is not bossy, but her instinct for music is so immens, that when Angelina asks a friendly " shouldn´t we play that a key higher???" No one will question it. A forty something conductor of a famous military band, he is well respected, asked 11 year old Angelina for advise!!!! While rehearsing for her album "It´s Magic". Glad to hear of a somewhat more recent 'angel' like me (4 months now). Same thing - finding her has been the best musical experience of my life (61 yo), by far. Different background, more classic rock 70s/80s Led Zeppelin, Chicago, Police, and occasional spattering of older blues/jazz/soul artists. She just blows them all out of the water, I've listened to little else since finding her.

There are no words adequate enough to describe Angelina, she just is. Someone who defies all logic and can pull off such an incredible and very difficult performance at 9 years of age. Her parents named her well because she really is an Angel, a voice of an Angel and the soul of an Angel. Not only is she a talented vocalist, but she plays multiple instruments, speaks several languages and is so Angelic in her compassion for others is just amazing. I can't believe such a powerful and well controlled voice came out of such a small girl, and now that she is all grown up and finished school, she is ready to be shown to the rest of the world who have not yet had the chance to hear her sing or hear her story.

For a whole list of reasons, some we can guess about, this girl performs without any of the limits we humans normally wrestle with. She shows no fear, no nervousness, no self-consciousness. She was actually 9 years and 2 months old in this video. The band she worked with here, fondly referred to her as "The Boss", because she knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted it done. She worked with most of them on a few occasions.
Not only that she is amazingly talent singer (and human), prodigy of a century, she also takes up old classics that we have nearly forgotten, renew and make them current. She also remind us about what grate singer qualities in raw format can do without auto tune (watch her microtone technique in later shows). Angelina is as a mushroom sucking up all the knowledge from the greatest singers we know and makes it her own. What 9 year kid would even know about Screaming Jay Hawking form 1956? (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
(l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

I've been waiting for you to get to this. I knew you would appreciate it. "The Boss" controlled this arrangement to get exactly what she wanted. Most have to watch it several times to make sense of what we just saw. Our minds have trouble making sense of what our eyes see and ears hear. This performance was phenomenal from start to finish And the last note was frosting on the cake. Not only her voice, control, methods, but also her presence, hands and arms gestures, facial expressions, putting her whole body into the performance when rose on her tip toes. She's feeling this song and she made us feel it. Good reaction. Every song she does is remarkable but there are a handful that blow the top off likelihood, even possibility. This is one of those.

I have watched at least 50 reactions to this video. But I never enjoyed a reaction as much as this. Your genuine appreciation of AJ's talent and ability to deliver emotion is palpable. I hope that you can continue to show restraint and work you way through the year-by-year growth of this wondrous talent. This was just a couple of weeks after Angelina turned 9.
I think that there is a wealth of remarkable stuff to see during her 10-year old year. I will leave it up to others to guide you to specific videos from her concerts that year. The one caveat that I would add is do not bypass either of the two outstanding live deliveries by AJ of "Feeling Good." Either will do because both are great.
One other thought for those who will guide you. Please be sure that Alex gets a chance to see jovial/upbeat Angelina in songs like "I Feel Good", "Lovin' You" or "Somethings Got a Hold on Me!"

Most singers do Nina Simone and more recently Annie Lennox's version, She nò! Use the harder one than Screamin' Jay Hawkins and make a masterpiece, I'm sure at his age, and not only that no one has ever come close to a performance like that, perfect reaction, good life and music ... Massimo👍
From stories I read years ago, this was an all day studio effort by Screamin' Jay. He actually couldn't do what the producer wanted and his sax accompanist (Sam 'The Man' Taylor) took him out of the studio midway thru the day and got him drunk. It was only then that he truly let his hair down and finished the session and came away with that masterpiece. I'm willing to bet it didn't take Angelina more than a couple of hours at the most to come up with her rendition, which is shocking.

It's not just that she's covering Screamin' Jay Hawkins original version (I'm not aware of any other such direct covers,) nor is it just that it's the most difficult version to cover, nor is it even that she's only 9 years old for this performance. If it's not required for the song, she doesn't do it. If you are continuing chronologically, I would say you are in for a treat when you get to Angelina at age 10, a benchmark year for her. You will see not only the additional tools she has added to her vocal abilities, but you will also see her honing her stage presence. I promise you, EVERY song at age 10 is a masterpiece.

This was the first song I heard her sing. First I had to stop in the middle to make sure I wasn’t slipping into the dark. When I listened to it all the way I was worried about her vocal cords. Then with the next song I heard I knew that wasn’t a worry.

There are no words adequate enough to describe Angelina, she just is. Someone who defies all logic and can pull off such an incredible and very difficult performance at 9 years of age. Her parents named her well because she really is an Angel, a voice of an Angel and the soul of an Angel. Not only is she a talented vocalist, but she plays multiple instruments, speaks several languages and is so Angelic in her compassion for others is just amazing. I can't believe such a powerful and well controlled voice came out of such a small girl, and now that she is all grown up and finished school, she is ready to be shown to the rest of the world who have not yet had the chance to hear her sing or hear her story.

She was actually 9 years and 2 months old in this video. The band she worked with here, fondly referred to her as "The Boss", because she knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted it done. She worked with most of them on a few occasions.
Not only that she is amazingly talent singer (and human), prodigy of a century, she also takes up old classics that we have nearly forgotten, renew and make them current. She also remind us about what grate singer qualities in raw format can do without auto tune (watch her microtone technique in later shows). Angelina is as a mushroom sucking up all the knowledge from the greatest singers we know and makes it her own. What 9 year kid would even know about Screaming Jay Hawking form 1956? Even less figure out, yes this one I like to smash!
