He was scaring all the animals away from the food. I put out food in different areas of my yard and all the ducks, geese, squirrels, stray cats, opossums, and raccoons get along just fine. I like your feeder boxes.
Thanks for watching and commenting - This clip was made in early June (5 years ago). That is considered "cranky mama season" at the feeders. Many of the birds and critters have young to feed and defend and it is not unusual to see a raccoon in daylight eating as much as it can to provide for its nursing kits. The mother duck was defending her ducklings by trying to distract the raccoon. At other times of the year we have seen as many as five distinct species eating together in peace.
Thanks for watching and commenting - The birds and critters have fantastic survival skills. That very young duckling didn't have to "think" about what to do to avoid the raccoon, it just knew what to do...
@@WRCatBWHQ That is true and false. I have seen birds were just standing there and doing nothing. Like doves that mother escapes when hawk invades leaving her children to them (can't do anything against predators) and ducks are in same position as well when they're caught by raccoons. They know that there's no way to fight with weak wings against them and aren't big to fight them, which escape is their only option. Usually mothers have instinct for protecting them, but not for birds and animals like them in this case of danger.
Thanks for watching and commenting - Amazing to see how the mother duck was acting injured to distract the raccoon from attacking the ducklings. The little one under the tray was lucky to get away.
Very unusual to even see a raccoon out at this time of day, almost noon.
Wow. Thanks for recording. :) That was intense. Looks like all the ducks got away. You know, you would make a great mod! LOL
